I was so inspired by the mineral Primatek hues of #danielsmithartistmaterials that I had to share this new favorite color combination in a painting demonstration. Paint along with me!
Sunlight on snow is captured with contrast - leaving light values for the sunlight and darkening the shadows to really give that bright sunlit feeling. Tree texture is really fun to depict with drybrush and granulating or sedimentary mineral pigments like Daniel Smith's Piemontite Genuine, Hematite Genuine and a splash of Zoisite Genuine for the tree branches.
Supplies Used: (I receive a small commission when you order using the links below. Thank you!)

I love the primatek paints, but only have three of the greens from that line (can't afford more, so may as well get my favorite color). Hope I will be able to play with the earth colors and neutrals in the line one day.

Thank you for the lesson Angela. I have a new primate set and can't wait to try them. Being inside is a wonderful way to start to express your creativity and takes your mind off this spreading illness. It's very calming and satisfying.

Very very beautiful painting. Small question: would it be possible to have the camera with an angle from the right side of your working space, as your hand covers the painting and it is difficult to see the brush strokes you do? Again, your painting is so colorful beautiful. Thanks so much!

LOVELY!!! I have a huge DS dot card that has been a wee bit intimidating to dive into... this will be the perfect “ice breaker” later...thank you for the lesson 💖 This whole painting is a delight, but I especially like how the twig draws you right to the beautiful spot at the tree trunk and the white space near it lets all the attention go there 🙌🏻 🙌🏻. You are blessed to be a blessing Angela, and you certainly live into that ☺️ Thanks again.

This is a beautiful painting, but as an instructional video I wish we could see where you're going with the brush when you go out of screen shot to the bottom of the screen. I'm assuming you're picking up more color, but I can't see how that pigment is laid out. Is it in a pan? Is it spread out on a palette and if so, how watered down is it? Are you wiping the brush or rolling pigment off of it before you return to the screen? Or you may be wiping the brush off on a rag? Other than that, I love your approach and philosophy to painting. Thank you for sharing this. stephaniejonesdesigns.net
