Painting complex patterns for background in perspective can really be tedious and a long task. Over the years, I came up with my own technique, using the cool features of Krita to spice up my background while lowering the time budget spent on this areas. In this video I'm sharing this technique! I'm detailing the process so this video is very beginner friendly.

It should be said that besides using G,mic one can also just copy-paste the texture a few times, or use "clone tool" from "digital" brushes, or even edit the brush settings to set the small image you drew as a texture pattern for your brush.

the perspective tool is super easy to use as long as you have a decent understanding of perspective itself! At least we no longer have to draw perspective grids by hand like we did when I was first getting started lol

Good Afternoon Are your perspective lines the same as the assistance tool that comes with Krita? Somehow those do not have colours like yours.
@DavidRevoy
@DavidRevoy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm not using perspective assistant (mainly because they can't be limited to a panel in the context of a comic page; and also because they introduce performance issue). I made my own workaround, a set of grid. I distribute them in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5dmpLN7na3blaM.html

hey, it's not in the left side; but on the top toolbar. Look for the little backgroud/foreground color square.

@@Bumblebia Ha, I see. Note that the developpers recommend the appimage version. Krita is really difficult to package correctly, and a lot of distro and packaging system do it wrong. The appimage version on the main website includes patched Qt and libraries for a better stability too.

Hi SealAwayHearts; it happens after activating the "wrap around mode" (there is an icon in the top tool bar) ; it duplicate the canvas in mirror around it. When I zoom back and paint, it looks like I have as many brush as there is tiles, but this is just the mirroring effect, I'm still painting only on one location.

You could do that without using G'Mic, Krita has a built-in pattern instrument.
@DavidRevoy
@DavidRevoy 3 жыл бұрын
If you refer to Filter > Map > Small Tiles; I choosed on purpose to avoid it. Test it: it has many issue (sometime padding appears; frames around the tiles, or weird borders...and even after 'triming to image size'). The GMIC filters never disapointed me; and if you look closer on the array section; it has many more creative options. I think that was the best option to teach.
@deadmngo
@deadmngo 3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidRevoy I was referring to «Fill Patterns› - it's the second button on your toolbar and is used together with the bucket fill tool; but now that you mention it, this feature does have some issues too. It would've worked fine in this case, but using G'Mic appears to be a more universal approach, so thanks for the video.
@DavidRevoy
@DavidRevoy 3 жыл бұрын
@@deadmngo No problem, and thank you for mentioning the Fill tool combined with pattern (and pattern creation). That could have been a good way too, with a very good benefit: keeping the pattern somwhere not as only a file on disk but on the Krita pattern library.

How did you turn on that perspective grid? I know how to create one or two vanishing points and how to draw lines to said vanishing points, but not how to create that square grid in perspective. Never mind, found it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5dmpLN7na3blaM.html
