In this short Review I give you my opinion of the G91/G90/G95 as a Filmmaking tool in comparison to the GH5. For me, it's not the best option, but it might for someone.

Thank you for the review. It is helpful as I have the G90 since the last 2 weeks. Still learing the camera how to use in different settings but uptil now Im happy with this hybrid camera.

I have G9 and G90... And thinking switch G90 to GH5... As upgrade for ocassional video shooting, but camera will be use mostly for still... I understand that GH5 is so called flagship, but its quite older model than G90, so I wonder if purchasing GH5 over G90 for photography wouldn't be rather downgrade for stills (like for example AF)... Can someone who has (had) both enlighten me... which of these two are supperior for stills?

Is the g90 good for video making for music videos and for a decent color correction, or 10 bit is a real game changer?

It depends. If you are starting out or want to create your look in camera, 8Bit is enough. You only need 10Bit if you, like me, want to color grade a lot. I certainly can recommend the G90 to beginners, and it will deliver nice video quality. If you want to get serious about filmmaking, get the G9 or GH5 instead.

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker wanted to buy gh5 but where I live it’s still expensive for my pockets, will I be able to do good post production/editing with the g90, I was looking for a less expensive camera cause before I spend a lot of money I wanna learn and have fun too, so if I can do good things and develop good skills in 1-2 years I can switch to a better camera, do you think I could do that?(if In some months I get to do a lot of practice I will start doing videos for people obviously at a beginner price since I am one) Also do you have any suggestions at the Same price with lens as the G90 if there’s something better or that’s already good?

If you are just starting out and want to have fun, you can get a GH5 later anytime. I would recommend getting an older camera, since they are much cheaper and you can learn a lot from using them. Good alternatives are the G80, which is the G90s predecessors, but without slomo and VLog. Used it extensively for weddings and was quite happy with it. Also the G70 is great, but lacks stabilisation. There are many more cameras from other brands, but Panasonic gives the best 4K image and feature set (except autofocus) for the lowest price. I would suggest getting an older mft camera like the ones I mentioned, or GH2, GH3, GH4, GX80, and a zoom lens for general shooting. And for nice shots with more bokeh, I can recommend the Pergear 25mm 1.8 which is dirt cheap and extraordinary good for it's 50 bucks. Hope I could help!

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker I think I’ll go with the g90(first I’m going to try it in the shop and see if the crop is something I mind or not) because I found it with a 12-60(I think it’s a Leica, not sure) at 700 euros, so then maybe I could invest in a few lenses in the future and in a further future I’ll see what will match my needs, thanks a lot

Way to go! Seems like a nice setup. The great thing is, that you can use these lenses later on if you move to a different MFT camera.

Would you take the g90 instead of the g80?

The g90 offers a bit more resolution for photos and about a stop more dynamic range. If this matters to you go for the g90 (as I did). If not, the g80 is a great camera for the money! I used the g80 as B-Cam and upgraded to the G90 a year later. Now I upgraded the G90 to another GH5. All cameras are great in terms of image quality. The biggest difference is usability and functionality.

I just got my G90 today and was baffled by the way the slow motion was implemented... I did consider the G9 but the UK version AFAIK has the 30min recording limit which I really wanted to avoid

Yeah it's a bit weird. The GH5 is still the most uncompromising MFT camera in Panasonics lineup. The G9 is close, but the recording limit sucks.

@@crisrocchi2722 I agree. I had the G90and sold it because I went back to a Nikon DSLR. After a year I will go back to a mirrorless camera. So for me it will be the G90 or the GH5 MK2.

You are so negative. I have this camera and the auto focus is great if you know what you're doing And forget the G9 because it's heavy as hell!

I am sorry you feel that way, I think as a reviewer I need to give my honest opinion, so it might differ from your experience. I owned this camera for a year and was very pleased, but I sold it for a second GH5, since that camera just works better for my needs. The G91 is a great camera, and the autofocus is good in HD, but the GH5 and G9 are better in 4K. If the weight difference of 130g is an issue, then the G91 is a better option. I already recommended the G91 as a great middle ground, so I absolutely understand that you are happy with it. I hope you create great images with that awesome filmmaking tool.

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Why are you people shooting in auto anyway, if you're shooting video, then MANUAL is the way to go, PERIOD. Like I said, if you know what you're doing, then the Focusing is a non issue. No matter what camera you choose. Even in 4k auto.

Yes I mentioned that, but you can't expose manually, which makes the usage rather limited. I would only use 1080/60p since you get better image quality and more control over your image.

I sign under every word. After 1080/60 it has auto exposure so you can't get conrollable motion blur etc. This feature is useless in most scenarios like V-Log, 4K Foto mode etc. I disappointed by this camera especially considering that I bought 2 immediately after the release together with 12-35 f/2.8, 7-14 f/4, 42.5 f/1.7 and 25 f/1.7... Now I can't sell it.

Sorry to hear that it was such a bad investment for you. I was also a bit disappointed, which is why I also sold mine after some time. Panasonic has much better offerings and for people who looked at the G95 originally can now get a G9 or GH5 for a comparable price. But I think for shooters who only need 8Bit video and don't like to grade much, it's a fairly cheap camera.

@@TheBudgetFilmmaker The Panasonic S5II with Phase detect autofocus is now on the market, so forget about the G90 or even the GH5.
