Like De Maas on the other side of Situbondo, Panji finished with steam before I had a video camera. Again, like De Maas, but earlier, I persuaded the mill to fire up a loco in August 1991.
It wasn't in the greatest condition and it was only when a member of the party took things into his own hands that we saw a little bit of action.
For the record, the driver was the late Chris Walker.

I'm just sorry that I hadn't the equipment a few years earlier when there were steam locomotives working to the fields. Saya hanya menyesal karena saya tidak memiliki peralatan tersebut beberapa tahun sebelumnya ketika ada lokomotif uap yang bekerja di kebun tebu.

the field lane PG PANJI still operated until 2013 and now only operated in emplacement

Most of the lines followed roads (unlike Wringinanom) so rail had no advantage.

Sorry, I only got this coverage because I 'sweet talked' the management. The steam locos remained in the shed for several years, but other mills came calling for the brass fittings for their own locos.

Panji's field lines or at least the outside siding would still be in use if it wasn't for the short sighted local council who thought of railways would be an 'obstruction to traffic'.

One can't help wondering if there was some external force involved here - like the 'advisory' group which told American cities to replace their electric tramways with buses - and the 'advisory group' turned out to be a conglomerate of a major car manufacturer, a major oil company and a major tyre (tire) manufacturer. Incidentally, before my time, Panji received some cane from the 3'6" gauge as there was a disused transfer gantry close to the mill.

I forget if was the Bupati in Pati or here who waged war on the cane railways as he ran a fleet of trucks. Sadly (!) he was a Covid casualty, what a shame.
