Fun fact: wheeler already had a loop as soon as he cast sensei's divining top. Let me explain: Casting divining top untaps all your nonland permeants which untaps the one ring, you then draw with the one ring to redraw top plus more cards, casting top again untaps ring and lets you repeat drawing an extra card.

I think Wheeler was pointing out that he had a controllable loop that means there isn't even any epsilon probability that the cards he wants are hidden at the bottom and the One Ring would deck him to reach them.

Little in the dark about the alters, is it just a blacked out art box or is it actual art? And how did this start with alters because of terf stuff with the original artist?

@@Joeks0303 The original artist fell into a terfy, QAnony hole, and WotC officially ended its relationship with them in 2020. Wheeler's copy of Echo of Eons therefore has the art blacked out with a sharpie. Either he or other Ben also appears to have uploaded a version to the cardreader that has the words "NO TERFS ALLOWED" in white text on a black background instead of the original art.

Man respect to Serge for being a great player in a great game, and gods know I couldn’t do any better, but every game where he brings his own brew he gets stomped. These are always excellent videos but it’s getting tiring to watch a weekly “here’s a new way Serge loses.” I just want to see Serge’s good play pay off.

Interesting. The chromatic orrery + bring to light came up in the recent wheeler highlander stream and mtgo identified that "as if it were mana of any color" does not actually make it that color for the bring to light restriction.

its among them. jeskai control has the most tournament wins under its belt atm, but paradox is solidly an S tier list imo. some people might say flash hulk is a better combo list but theyre very different approaches to combo.

As soon as I saw Academy vs. Tempo, I though to myself... this is gonna be a bad time for Serge. He never really goes hard on the control plan, and his tempo decks tends not to be on the blitz'y side either. You either have to interact heavily with the solitaire deck or run really fast, and this tempo deck just felt like more of a midrange deck. I would've liked to see the WU Tempo deck against another more midrangey deck. But of course, good video as always and happy to see more of you guys, and also sad to see Serge leave Victoria for the time being.

yeah, academy ramp is one of the most resilient combo lists in canlander, you have to *really* disrupt it or get underneath it

I love watching Paradox Academy. It feels gross and unfair but fun to actually watch with a lot of nuance, which is a nice change of pace when a lot of the format can feel samey with things like Ragavan, Fury, Questing Beast, and other autoinclude cards that win on value. Wish combo and creature combo was more viable nowadays, but at least we get to see it on the show!

We're starting a (proxy) Canlander group with my buddies, and we preemptively banned Academy. We know it's not technically within the spirit of the format for there to be a ban, but no one wants to deal with it.

The team explained on stream last week, I think FNPF, that there's enough of a N100SD backlog to fill the projected gap. I dunno if it's all Serge but the implication is that a lot is.
