It was a beautiful log home. I am so impressed. So sorry the river took it away, but so very glad he has flood insurance, and was able to get things out before it went for a swim.

@@uncov8127 Hasn’t happened since 1918…. And even then it wasn’t this bad. I thought that when I first moved up there and saw the houses built along the river, but after a few years of watching how the river rose and fell it was obvious that it wasn’t as precarious as it looked.

Lucky old man, and smart too, he’s got an insurance. The more I’m adulting the more I understand how important/crucial insurance can be. People who use to say “money” doesn’t make you happy were wrong… well at least money can buy you stability, a roof over your heard, like in this man’s case.

I give that man a lot of credit he's a strong guy after 40 years of blood and sweat building that house by hand and living there my knees would have buckled and I would have cried watching my house get swept away. When he got all his personal items out.

That depends on how far above floodstage that was, and what the highest to date was previously. In my hometown the river floods never made it higher than 10 feet until last year when it hit 14.25 feet.

Hopefully his insurer will pay for what happened. I feel bad for people like him, but he probably knew the risks when he built that home 40 years ago. I would never buy or build a home near water.

He will get screwed… just like most people who pay homeowners insurance for decades and when their home is destroyed by flood, fire etc the pricks (whose job is to screw people) at the insurance company will try desperately to find a loophole in their contract to escape culpability. It makes me sick because I have seen it happen to many people in Southern California with fires. I hate all insurance scumbags.

Coastal erosion has been chipping away at California homes. There are a ton of great videos demonstrating the precariousness of some homes, some spanning years and showing the changing landscape, and the complete loss of other homes. It's pretty interesting what humans will risk for a view.

It’s a risk we are paying for to have the life style but flood insurance is a must for all inland waterfront properties. Just hope everyone got affected by this flooding would recover in someway for the losses.
