Dustin, I have seen on many occasions that the video on IOS devices that you actually have to unplug the cable and back in for the video to come back in after it loses it! Thank You for the test Brother!

A great range test video/flight Dustin. I love Parrot Drones from the Bebop 2 to the Disco, AR DRone,SWing and the Anafi. I must admit though, I've had the odd video drop out and as you did have had to reconnect etc occasionally. But not that many times. I still would say that these aircrafts are awesome. Great video Dustin. Not bad at all for a wifi bird. The price is competitive when compared to the DJI offerings. The only downside [if any] is that wifi has some downsides in contrast to a proprietary system. You are correct in the fact that anafi is more susceptible to the competition than DJI.

I have to give credit to Parrot with that gimbal system. No propeller blades. Not everyone needs more than 1 or 2 miles. What camera would you prefer Dustin, the Ximi X8 or the Anafi? Great video.

My dad bought the Autel because of your review, always great informative videos.

If you have telemetry back, RTH clearly working, GPS and battery indications giving information, you should just reboot the application. This usually brings the video feed straight back. Of course switching anything off when your drone is a long way from home feels wrong or even dangerously irresponsible but it isn't. RTH will bring the drone back to grabbing distance even if you throw your controller away. I learned this through much experience and tribulations, including one instance when the drone was hovering seven feet up over the edge of a lake that had been frozen the day before. My son grabbed it out of the air (at full arm's reach) and all was well but thinking it through I should have rebooted the app and controller which would almost certainly have brought everything fully back and I could have just continued with the flight. You just need to ask yourself whether rebooting the app and controller is actually a risk. If you know it is coming home anyway then it isn't a risk. You are right, in an ideal world it wouldn't do this, but it does and Parrot should fix it. It's just not that big a deal. I have been running the Anafi on long Flight Plan missions recently which have been losing signal, on one occasion losing signal for around EIGHT MINUTES. The Anafi just continues its mission. The Anafi wants to come home and you can trust it to fly autonomously to continue its Flight Plan mission or to RTH if you lose signal on a manual flight. Have you noticed there is HAPTIC FEEDBACK when the RTH kicks in or it re-establishes contact with the drone? This is a great idea from Parrot. If you are regularly pushing the limit of reception you will get to love this sensation. I am expecting to start dreaming of this little buzz as my little friend comes home.

HI Dustin! Love your long range tests!! I have done many videos on the Anafi myself if your interested. The video stream issue you experienced on the long range RTH is a problem with apple devices. Once the video stream cuts out, the apple device's USB security will not let it through again unless you restart the app or unplug, and replug the controller. Android tends to reconnect automatically. (Iphone 8plus/Galaxy s7)

Great video - thanks. The reason take off is 3 feet is because people take off in doors from the dining room table and 7 feet would crash it.

Thanks for finally getting around to it ;-) Not surprised by the range or the loss of video (Bebop had the same issues). A bit disappointed by the battery life, thought it would be more than 20 minutes.

I realise it is a range test but I thought the work from 09:00 was excellent with the clouds and the trails of mist adding dynamism, it showed off the capabilities of the quad also.

I really like Parrot, they seem to pay attention to detail. I have 3 - Bebop 1, 2 and power.. I still haven't really bought into the Anafi just yet. The camera impresses me but I tell ya I'm anxious to get my hands on the X8.. Thanks Dustin

Great job, another enjoyable video, question.... The Anafi's antenna has a specific surface area, when you slide the 3-D holders over the antenna, maybe that reduces the signal, maybe that's why it was cutting out

I noticed your screen was reading 43ft, but you were way higher than that. Did you notice that? Good video 👍

dustin you know we like what you do .....but yes all you had to do is restart the app whenj you was out there 2 miles.........bebop drones did that to.....glad you do what you do

I managed 4.1km(2.6miles) a week ago. Never lost video feed or connection. I was flying over the ocean. The drone auto returned due to “low battery” but still got home with 31% battery left. Very conservative. Amazing drone.

Hi All, After buying an Anafi and doing some testing of range, which was only about 1 km at best in semi urban area, and then when i went to a mountain range test. Got it out to 3000 metres, before it dropped out. Only got video when it returned to home. So frustrating that it cant pick up video until it got home. Surely Parrot can improve that function

Excellent range test! I think for most pilots that range is more than enough😎👍 That's a bit scary the video feed drops and doesn't return unless you restart the app! 👍😎😁 But at least you can follow it's progress on the map👍😎 I definitely want to upgrade to the anafi from my bebop👍😎

Brother, although you started at 43 feet relative up on the mountain, you are flying in Helicopter territory once you fly away from Haleakala. Heard few people complaining about Anafi launching low 1m. I actually like that for a few reason. If I want to do a test in the room it will not hit the ceiling. Sometimes I want to launch it from my 6th floor balcony. Launching to 2 or 3m is still low for any kind of flying so you have to raise it up high enough anyway. By the rule you cannot fly over people anyway so hitting someone with drone is out of question. We are getting so spoiled - every little thing is a problem :).

Thanks for video as I'm shopping, have you done a test on distance without your tablet support arms around antenna ? Us intro guys are probably using phones, but very curious on distance with nothing on antenna. Good job keeping it simple Cheers

Crashed my Anafi on Big Island a couple weeks ago. Absolutely love my Anafi. In my crash I broke 2 arms. Replacement parts seem to be hard to get(in the US atleast). I keep checking Parrot website for the Anafi Mechanical Kit but there is just no info on how to buy. Doesnt list it as out of stock or anything, just nothing. Found a listing on some authorized dealer website but it's on backorder. I ended up having to buy the 2 arms off ebay from from seller in Germany. Unfortunetly the arms were only availble with the motors so it cost me $150 for the 2. I kind of wish I had got a DJI Mavic because there are lots of spare parts available online.

Hey Dustin. Thanks for this test. I really like my Anafi so far but noticed some jello on straight edges when video is set at 1080p 60fps. No problems when at 4k, camera and features are great!

man I love the anafi don't care for the obstacle avoidance or the 3rd axis. Even though I've pretty much owned every consumer drone since the phantom 2 vision +. mavics phantoms and inspire. I mostly only fly the mavic air now. I'm glad yuneec came out qith thia little quad. I'm hoping the Anafi 2 is a better drone

That up-tilting camera is a great idea. It'll be interesting to see if DJI, Xiaomi (Fimi) and the rest copy it.

Hi Dustin...love all of your drone reviews. I currently have the Bebop 2 and Bebop 2 power edition and a Disco. I was thinking of acquiring an Anafi but they are rather pricey at the moment. Guess I'll sink some bux in upgrades to the PE and/or disco first. I would really like to do the 4G to the disco or Bebop 2 PE. I'm more confident in flying the Bebop than the Disco :-/

The zooming feature is really the point which impressed me the most... are many drones able to do this? (I would kill to have this feature on the disco...)

A comment about the 2,4 gHz wifi band. A microwave oven also operates in this band. That is because this frequency will excite water molecules. While we humans cannot see through clouds or fog, wifi does only a little better. In your video, there isn't much signal left at 2 miles and the clouds are sucking it dry. You don't have to have clouds to have the effect, high humidity will also work, but rain works even better to absorb the signal. Propellers work best in cold dry air, and so does wifi.

"..5. Fly your drone at higher altitudes*. As mentioned earlier, the maximum transmission range is reached at higher altitudes. If your drone is far and too close to the ground, the emission zone of the controller might include the ground, creating interferences. To give you an idea, the maximum distance that can be reached is doubled when flying at an altitude of 50m in comparison to an altitude of 20m *... " I think its good to fly even higher than 50m, maybe 80 or 100m.

I was flying from the edge of a volcanic crater in Bali and it lost signal (there was some user error because I forgot to turn on airplane mode and a mavic flew directly over my head). I sort of freaked out because I lost video feed and couldn’t see my drone. After a few minutes of panic, I restarted my app and it restored video. I probably should have switched to map mode, but agree that there needs to be better handshake.

23:25...stalker or family member? lol. Looks like they were wearing a red cape but most likely a jacket or sweater around the waist. by the way, the video cut out on RTH. Ever since I updated my Anafi to the latest version, I sometimes get no video on startup. I do believe Parrot will address this bug soon enough. It wasn't there at all in previous rev's.

Hey Dustin great video, love watching you push the limits. Just performed, my first ever, maiden voyage flight for my Mavic 2 Pro this morning. I’m HOOKED NOW! I think that I want to invest in a mini iPad to use with the controller. Do you know which generation mini IPad would be the least system requirements for flying the Mavic 2? And do they need to be cellular based or can I get by with just WiFi capable only one? Does that bracket work with the smaller iPads too? Thank you!

When I lost video on mine I just reconnected on the Wi-Fi and it reappeared. Not sure that's a Anafi issue or the phone/tablet problem. Might want to give that a try.

Very good test, and interesting. It did take some beautiful footage while it lost the link though, I guess the beautiful landscapes help. I am on the fence considering whether to get this or the Air, which where I am can be bought for the same price, pretty much. When it comes to editing raw footage, do you feel that there is any major difference between what you get from the Anafi and the air, in terms of effort you need to put in to color grade and so forth? My main usage for a drone would be to do landscape photography and videos, and of course the less I have to struggle to edit, the better, I have not found much about quality differences between the Anasi and the Air in that respect.

As an FAA instructor, just curious if you had a waiver to fly beyond visual line of sight?

in my opinion the range tests are the best video's you have. the range tests show a lot from the drone's qualities. could you maybe do this as well with the dji mavic 2 pro on the mountain? i did this in austria when i was on vacation with the dji spark and reached 2.4 kilometers without using extenders.

Yeah, kind of disappointing that it didn't relink the video & you had to completely exit the app to get it back. Perhaps, on the iOS device, just unplugging the device and plugging it back in would work as someone else suggested. Not sure why they use Ft./sec. for speed, but I think you topped out at 35ft/sec, which is about 23 mph .. not a speed demon, but then either is the X8. One thing I seem to recall from other 'range tests' at this location. Once it initiated RTH and gained some altitude, the signal seemed to improve. I think this occurred at about 60-65 feet indicated .. so you might want to take it up that high before going straight out. There may be a 'bubble' of wi-fi interference from those homes you pass over on the way out. I wonder if an Android device would regain video .. sometimes the App works better on one platform over the other. It will be interesting if you come up with some antenna enhancement. Perhaps there is something out there if you Google it. Oh, and not sure if it was the lighting, but the color of the grass on the Anafi seemed to be more yellowish than with other craft going out that way. Thanks for the test. Cheers!

If you lose the video close by, unplug the USB and re-plug.

Enjoyed the review. The Anafi is pretty small... I think I’d lose LOS at 100m, unless flying at night with LED lights.
