Part 1 New S1 Pro Plus Compared to original S1 Pro • New Bose S1Pro Plus Co...
I am only testing the sound quality of the Bluetooth Channel for backing tracks/DJ Applications for small gigs. Of course these speakers make incredible backyard/camping Bluetooth Speakers!
To get information on guitar and mic sound quality and preamp performance check the Acoustic Guitar Forum or the Bose S1 Pro Facebook Page.

/ boses. .
My EQ settings emphasize bass/mids. Still trying to figure out how to get some more high end sparkle without lowering the bass/mids which I am happy with.
Main Speaker EQ: Bass 0dB, Mids +5dB, Treble +4dB
Main GEQ: 63Hz +12, 160Hz +11, 400 +8, 1K +10, 2K5 +8, 6K +12, 12K +10

Just looked it up: Bose S1 Pro Plus- 1 reverb/Everse 8 Reverb/FX- thirty!! Need more reasons? Bose max dB 109dB/ Everse 121dB, EV has a Hi-Z channel, EV is IP43 weather rated, has a plastic cover that fits over inputs that I use to keep dust out during storage, Accessory Tray mounting available, also an optional case that can be used for play in the rain. EV has audio ducking, EV has Phantom Power, EV has locking latches on inputs, Bose 2 Band EQ Bass/Treble :( Everse has a 7 Band EQ with Mid control on every channel. EV has firmware updates over WiFi, Bose has to be hardwired to a computer.

I thoroughly enjoy my S1 Pro+. Wireless is huge. More versatile for placement for both music and as a PA. Sounds crisp and clean. I don't DJ, so it's perfect for guitar playing with a mic while pumping in background music. Also fine as a PA. The size/weight is a big deal too.

Everse 8 with 8 inch woofer and more headroom is the clear choice. S1 Pro is know to break up with heavy bass content. Of coursr to get true kick drum sound you will need a subwoofer. You will be amazed with the difference! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7yBZJllyJiteGg.html Bose Sub1 is the same price and almost as good.

I really appreciate your comparison vids on these products. I ended up buying an EV Everse 8 a couple months ago for busking with just an acoustic guitar and vocal mic. I do find it difficult to make changes on the fly with it, and now that the S1 Pro Plus is out, I REALLY like the idea of having a wireless setup, small form factor, and more knobs to tweak on the fly (though I think the updated knobs are not as easy to make quick adjustments as with the original S1 Pro). However, I keep watching videos like yours, that still put the EV on top, so I can feel better about my decision :) By the way, you're voice remeinds me of Jerry Stiller's...😁 may he rest in peace.

Great user input: Have briefly heard the JBL Compact and the Mackie Thump Go. Mackie is ok for the money and being a cheaper option, but no reverb if that's important and it's not the best sounding. JBL is overpriced and not in the running. JBL would beat Mackie if it was priced in the $400 range like Mackie. Bose S1Pro sounds better than JBL and Mackie, IMO. Have used my friend's pair of S1Pros for several gigs - wedding ceremonies and one small wedding reception. For the ceremonies, we were running them flat out, no headroom, they're just not loud enough. For example, at one event, the pair of S1Pros had issues getting loud enough so that the wedding party could hear to start the march from the barn to the reception area. For the reception, we had a powered Mackie sub, the Bose's had everything over 100Hz. Bose did better without having to deal with bass, but again, were flat out. Buddy uses the S1Pros in small churches for his gospel quartet. He's a Bose fan, also has Sub1s and Sub2s, and some Bose columns as well. I bought a used pair of Yamaha DBR10's which solved the headroom issue, never used the S1Pros again for events. Power the DBRs off of a small 300w+ battery pack, no issues. Now have a pair of JBL EON One MK2 columns as well as my new go-to for ceremony use. I bought an Everse 8, tested head-to-head with my DBR10s, EON One MK2, buddy's S1Pro, and just for giggles, my RCF J8 column. Everse 8 was much louder/had much more headroom than the Bose. Sounded a lot better after EQ tweaking as well. Buddy agreed, he wants to sell the S1Pros to get a pair of Everses. Again...the Bose addict wants the Everses over his S1Pros. For me, the Everse was great, but not $750 worth of great. For less money, I have the DBR10, battery pack, and Behringer Flow8 mixer...much more capability for cheaper price...the only con is it's obviously not all in one speaker box. I ended up sending the Everse back, great speaker, but didn't do anything that I already had covered for cheaper. I feel Everse is overpriced. If it was close to $500? Yeah, I would have kept it and possibly bought another one. I think Everse sounded a bit better than the DBR10, but again my DBR was way less than half the price used. DBR has way more volume and headroom. Everse in no way gets close to published SPL specs. EON One MK2 column sounded better and was louder than Everse...but is $1200. RCF J8 blows them all out of the water, as you would expect. FYI, the Everse8 also has the stereo BT music linking option. Also has onboard delay if you need to set them up as the delay speakers you mentioned. Bottom line: JBL EON One MK2 is the best single-unit battery powered speaker IMO. Everse 8 is easily the best small 'lunchbox-sized' battery powered PA speaker.

For instance, call up the EQ & effect settings for a particular venue or for, say an open mic and for when someone brings thier Taylor guitar (which often require decreasing the mids and highs).

Viewer's comment: I have had them all: Mackie Thump Go, Bose S1 Pro (Original), Yorkville EXM 8 and now the Ev Everse 8. The Everse 8 Is so much louder and d/c powers my Sennheiser dual lav receiver. Thump Go was great at the price point and size but for my ceremonies I felt like I needed (2) to do the job and still had to bring a small jackery for the mics.

I've read that the Bose Plus has improved pre amps for the mic channel. The original S1 has weak mic pre amps needing 90% boost with the popular Shure SM58. EV needs only 20% boost with the SM58.

Viewer's input: The S1 Pro sounds a little more like a home speaker. It sounds pretty good but a little bass heavy and some frequencies are missing. Some songs I played through it sounded great and better than the Everse, others didn’t and the Everse took it. To me the Everse sounds like a PA speaker. It’s more transparent and you get exactly what you put in where the Bose has some eq. My testing I liked both for dry vocals. Where the Everse pulls away is the mixer. Much more gain available on the Everse. Many more effects available though they’re more difficult to get to in the menu. The app control is also a big win. You can also set the eq curve for what style you’re using the speaker. Initially I thought the Everse wasn’t anything to write home about. Now I’m selling my S1 Pros. You really want to use the app for the EV. It has the most insane Bluetooth range. I’ve walked like 100 feet away and it still stays connected! My 50M loses connection at like 35 feet.

Showbox and Everse 8 are very similar spec wise. EV has a cleaner high end you are properly familiar with your 15. Mackie has multiple inputs and the breakaway mixer. If you don't need those features, for me I will stick with my Everse 8. Smaller size, lighter weight, and the most important, a much better App! Not sure if the App will also run your 15, if it does that would be a big plus running both speakers together in a larger gig. They are also voiced the same.

I'm assuming you need internal battery, if not there are better choices. Why a second Everse 8? A second speaker adds only 3dB more volume. Only if you are playing recorded tracks do you need stereo. If you need more volume than a single Everse 8 you might want to consider the Everse 12 at 126dB! Downside the 31pounds weight:( I saw your video performing The Christmas Song. Thanks for your review. I’m in the market for a pair of bookshelf sized, self powered speakers. I have the original S1 Pro speakers and they sound very good for my application. I use them for small events where there’s a singer and a pianist playing to background tracks. I’m very happy with the S1 Pro. I need to get two more for another system and I’m wondering if I should get the S1 Pro since it’s so cheap now and I know what it sounds like or get the updated plus or switch over to the EV eight. I’m afraid that the EV8 will disappoint me because I’m so used to the sound of the Bose system. I’m not looking for power as much as I am for quality of sound. What are your thoughts?

To get it right EV takes time and knowledge to EQ properly, Bose as you probably know is Plug and Play. With EQ the Everse has much more full range sound. Noticeably better low end and cleaner highs. Plus model is slightly louder than S1Pro but same sound as what you have. For me the Everse is next level, worth the extra $$$! If you want the least expensive, look at the Alto Busker.

Viewer comment: So with acoustic guitar and vocals you can get away with either, in my opinion. But when it comes to music that is bass heavy where you need that thump, the Bose will not cut it. I just returned mine to Guitar Center yesterday and bought the Everse 8 from Amazon and got it today. BIG difference! I use backing tracks that are bass heavy so I guess I'm more like a DJ than a singer songwriter even though I'm busking too. I thought I could get away with the Bose but it started to crap out at a modest volume with my backing tracks and electric guitar. I would advice anyone that is trying to decide, to just go with the EV Everse 8 because it "can" do what the Bose can do. But the Bose "cannot" do what the Everse 8 can do.

The Everse 8 has everything I need in a portable speaker. Great EQ, has compressor, long battery life and very loud. It has some problems with feedback but you can use the built-in notch filters to reduce that. It does sound a bit too focused and slightly harsh as a sound source especially if you're right in front of it but I don't see any options around that unless they do a small array like the S1. For something so robust to weigh so little is a modern day miracle! It's also well built and feels like a reliable piece of professional hardware instead of a "prosumer" product. It paid for itself within a week of music work. Not perfect but definitely the best speaker by a large margin for a busker in my opinion.

Viewers input: I had the S1 and it is a nice sounding speaker. But I needed a little more volume and got the Everse 8. I really like it. The S1 is more hi fi and the Everse is more PA. With the S1 I needed a mixer to get the most out of it for my venues, and with the Everse, I no longer need to bring a mixer. As far as battery life, the Bose would get two 4 hr gigs with battery left over, same for the Everse. I own both the Everse EV8 and the Bose S1 Pro. Confirming other comments, the EV8 has much more available volume, while the Bose S1 Pro really needs a mixer (with included preamp) to get sufficient mike volume for even a medium size venue. On the plus side, the Bose S1 Pro has much easier-to-understand controls. The Everse EV8 controls are buried under several level of button pushes - so you have to spend some time with it to gain the necessary familiarity. A big plus for the EV8 is that it can be controlled remotely via an ipad or phone. The battery power option for both are big plusses for me. So for me it boils down to simplicity and moderate volume vs complex controls and plenty of volume. __________________

Viewer Comment: I want to add another advantage of the Everse 8. The EV has a knob for master volume whereas the Bose sS1 pro or plus has none. That was actually one of the reasons I went for the EV after testing it in live settings. It was pretty annoying that you had to adjust all the channels if you wanted to turn everything up or down. Though I just had 3 channels used - mic, guitar and playback - it took me a lot more time to adjust the volume on the Bose. There is also no master controller on the Bose music app with the Bose S1 pro plus. No master volume control is a deal breaker for many live musicians!

I'd say the extra step to connect via bluetooth is a positive. Can you imagine if you're not using bluetooth, and a friend who's used your speaker before walks into the room, and his phone accidentally connects? Or your phone accidently connects? This would have been done intentionally and is a positive of the EV 8. BTW largely influenced by your reviews, I bought the EV 8 a few days ago. Loving it so far. @@WWeiss-nv5vz I think cutting 160 with a relatively tight Q helps remove the boxiness of the everse to my ears. It also separates the bass and high where it sounds a bit more hifi without losing the mids. Those gains seem heavy as well to me. A second charged battery is in reserve. The speakers wear out less and last longer!

❤Very thorough review! I haven’t used the new Bose or QSC models, but I used to use QSC 10s/12s & currently use 1 Sub1 + 2 S1Pros(not pro+) every Saturday for Karaoke in a dive bar. It’s not as loud or detailed as my L1Pro8, but that particular setup works better. I’m considering a third speaker for more coverage. Mids control would be nice, but I use a standalone mixer with DI box. I love the clip light on the front side, but I wish it had one on each side. 120 degree coverage is better than 180 in some venues. They sound cleaner than the old QSCs, but those were worn out so hard to say. They don’t sound as good as my UE Hyperbooms via Bluetooth without EQ, but xlr & 1/4in are a must for public shows. I also need light speakers and they don’t get much lighter. They’re perfect for wedding ceremonies, backyards, etc. Based on this video I would definitely consider trying out a pair of these new QSCs with my sub 1! If I was busking I’d go with the new Bose hands down. If money and delicateness aren’t an issue, the Bose pro 8 & 16 are where it’s at.

A pair of QSC CP8's with your Sub1 would be a huge improvement over the S1Pros especially if you need more headroom! An Everse as a third speaker would also give you a noticeable headroom bump/coverage. EV would add some of the clean high end rolled off on the Bose.

Some prefer the S1Pro+ : I tried the Bose S1 Pro plus today at a store and found it easier to use than the EV. The biggest downside is it's not as loud as the EV, and I'd probably always have the mic volume at 100 percent. I think for my purposes, though, I don't need super loud. The ability to have a compact unit I can just grab and go and setup really quickly, that sounds great, with a wider listening angle (120 degrees, vs 100 degrees with the EV), and I don't need mic/guitar cables, makes this very tempting. I may end up selling my EV8 and getting the S1 Pro +. Thanks for the video

Bose 120 degree dispersion must be considered: The Everse is a very focused source of sound. I already got complaints twice from shop owners about how loud it is but from a distance away it actually is just right. Manufacturers really need to look into constructing such busking PAs a little more like Bose's for dispersion. It's great if your locations are not close to working folks and can let the sound travel for a bit. In terms of sheer dispersion, that is, standing to the significant left or right of the stick, even the ol' L1 Compact is much better than point-source speakers--which none of the Bose sticks are. Now, the closer you get to the Pro 32 the better life is all around, but the Compact, Pro 8 and Pro 16 arrays all provide much better, fuller sound reproduction off to the sides than modern classic point-source PAs like the QSCs, and better than the Everse 8, which I have and love. And yes the higher you go up that model line the better it is. Same goes for the discontinued L1 M2 line and its variations. The S1's dispersion is good, but not as good as the 180 degree Bose sticks.

Everse 8 101dB before clipping/Bose 100db. Not huge, but if you are playing music with bass content you will hear audible breakup/farting;) with the Bose 6.5"woofer at high volume. EV with 8" woofer has no issue with bass at similar high volume. Called EV tech support and they said, you have another 3dB after seeing the clip light, before distortion. On the other hand, the Bose at over 100dB sounds harsh!

Bose weak mic preamps: With popular Shure SM58, Bose needs 90% boost for satisfactory volume/EV only needs 20% boost. Of course using a small mixer with the Bose solves the problem but defeats the ultra all in one portability of these types of speakers.

The Problem with this analysis : Decibels were measured to ascertain the volume of these instruments. Shouldn't we know the distance from the microphone in relation to the volume of the speaker(s) to give an accurate reading? How Loud + standing where = Accurate Assessment Besides, everyone know the EV 8 is louder due to it's wattage. I just purchased these pro+. Playing some Deep House in my front yard. and the Bose gets plenty loud and i live 50 ft. from a Major 10 lane Highway system. Also walked to the next block and never lost connectivity or control of the device. I think Bose made a "companion speaker device" with all it's versatility and dynamics. EVs are impressive in lots of ways but it's just not something you can depend on everywhere you go unlike the S1-Pro. Larger, Heavier, Bulkier, "Cord-ier" etc etc. I just ordered 2nd one after seeing this. I may get an EV so i don't have to endanger the Bose all the time. 🤔 Great video!

As a live performer, the EV teased me with marketing over their "true wireless". I wanted a scalable portable wireless system so i could add a second speaker in a live sound stereo pa configuration. This can only be achieved wiring the units together. and EV is full of excuses about it.. At the end of the day.. they used a shared BT chipset for both receiving audio from devices.. and linking a stereo speaker... limiting this function to only the bluetooth stream. It WILL NOT transfer the built in mixer with stereo effects (Go figure) to the second unit at all wirelessly and all i keep hearing about is "it's a known limitation of the technology" I gotta say... BS. A $400 Harbinger mlx900 seamlessly transfers the entire mixer main out in stereo to scale and it's quite nice.. so at nearly half the price of the EV... what is their excuse? I will wait till a quality company actually gets it right without limiting the L/R 2 speaker setup to one BT channel only without cables.. this was a disappointment to learn and a surprise since this is part of their general marketing but never defines what could have been a completely avoidable limitation. And when I inquired about it I got the "tech limitation" jargon excuse I'm well aware of .. as a tech.

Some people are reporting the new Pro sounds better than the original S1. I guess through DSP? Bass is reported improved. Same woofer/amp so someone suggested through new Port Tuning? Even so EV's 8" woofer thumps! New Pro model has same exact specs: Max103dB, same frequency response that rolls off before 20Hz. Exact number is 16Hz. I call it the Bose Veil, when A/B ed compared to most others: QSC, EV, JBL, RCF, Mackie, TurboSound, Bose high end is muddy! I don't know why they don't put in a dedicated tweeter like in the new Maui LD28? Even on my $3,300 Pro 32 the high end needs much high end EQ boost to sound ALMOST equal to the $400 Mackie Thump Go:( All others go up to 20Hz and it is audible! I guess that's the price you have to pay if you want that Famous Bose Smooth Mids and 120 degree dispersion. Pro Line goes up to 180 degrees!

Thank you for mentioning that there is that divide whether there is an audible improvement to the sound quality from the S1s. It’d be my only real reason to upgrade. That’s disappointing to hear about the higher frequencies but I remember there being a lot of KZfaq videos on how Bose doesn’t use the correct driver sizes for frequencies production so there’s actually a lot of frequencies to don’t even get
