I'm a believer in Rule 1. It's your model railway you do what you like. I like all what you have done at Lakeside. I have followed you over 2 years. From a 70 year old bloke from across the pond, Bill from California.
@GrahamFoulston9 ай бұрын
Hi Bill and from one 70 year old to a 74 year old bloke then thank you sir for your kind words and comment. The way I look at it is if I’m happy with what I do then to me that’s all what matters. I have learnt over the years of doing this that folk will have their own thoughts on how they think they would have completed a certain scene - which is fine. But that doesn’t mean that I have to follow suit and incorporate other folks opinions like traffic lights at the tunnel and a level crossing which has been already suggested. So yes, Rule 1 is the name of the game. Cheers for now. …………Graham

I’m late to the party, Graham. I’m up to the eyes in all sorts of stuff. The lock area is looking great and now that you have located the pub, the space left will provide a more suitable sized parking space for castle visitors. The existing smaller car park can be the castle overflow car park, maybe. A beautiful looking scene. Best, Jason.

Hi Graham I'm with you on what the lock and canal look like, its your layout so as we all know the number one rule applies and if other people don't like it that's their loss. Many thanks for sharing your update Graham and as always looking forward to the next one. Take care regards and best wishes Barry...

But I do take notice of folk with genuine, good suggestions like moving the pub and chopping a 1/3rd off it to give me a little more room at the front - great idea! Cheers. ……….Graham

Hi Graham, The Canal Lock area on Lakeside is really coming along now. It's looking really good! I especially like the pub behind it, fits in perfectly with the scene. If you wanted to you could add a small red/green traffic light at the lower part of the lock to control which side has access to it to help with the fact the other side wouldn't be visable due to going under the old castle wall. I am sure I have seen something similair in real life, Just an idea anyway. Cheers, Michael
@GrahamFoulston9 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for the kind comment Michael. Not sure about the traffic light, the tunnel is quite small anyway and folk would be able to see if there are any hold ups. I must confess that I haven’t seen traffic lights at tunnels in any of the research photos I have but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any - just not on mine. Cheers. …………Graham
@chazzyb86609 ай бұрын
There may be a million things wrong with the scene, but several million more right! It looks great Graham. Have a pint for me at the pub? Yes in 'real life' the pub probably closed down a few years ago, and the narrow boat sunk due to lack of maintainance, or got wedged into the lock landing due to lack of a passing point, but hey! Nothing a traffic light at the other end of the tunnel won't solve (sorry my brain can be a bit literal at times). The navvies must have done a great job building the embankment that allowed a tunnel to be blasted under the castle, and Thomas Telford must have dropped by to advise on the stunning aquaduct across the lake. A few years ago the lake got drained into the derelict coal mines below. But the NCB compensation board coughed up the money to repair the aquaduct, and dredged and refilled the lake and now it's thriving again. The bridges look wonderful against the sky at sunset from the beautiful manor house nearby. The fishermen are forever grateful, and two young at heart sweethearts go cycling round the village every night at dusk! Your story at Lakeside continues to enthrall us all as we add our own dreams on top of yours. Happy days! Have a great weekend at the show Graham and thanks for all the fun.

Very nicely done. Better than anything I could do. You don’t need bollards by the pub, no boat could moor there (no room to pass). Put them in the basin below which you’ve said will be wider. We’ve tied up Many a lunchtime and evening in the vicinity of a pub. Fond memories.
@GrahamFoulston9 ай бұрын
Hi Steve, the bollards would be there while the narrow boat waits for the lock to fill, the tunnel is only a short tunnel so folk behind can see if there is a queue up ahead, the basin is on the other side of the lock so can’t wait there but they can of course wait in the basin on the other side of the tunnel which no one can see as it’s on the other side of the castle. Cheers. ………..Graham

Hi Graham, I've been following your exploits for a couple of years now. You've achieved great things. The lock is looking good, but I fear that you may have forgotten something which would have always been there... a towpath for the draft horse. Also, the cut isn't wide enough to accommodate two boats passing each way. I know your feelings about accuracy and 'perfection', and I'm pretty much the same. It's just that it's conspicuous by its absence.
@GrahamFoulston9 ай бұрын
Hi Gordon and thanks for the comment, it’s much appreciated. As regards the tow path, I still have to put in a pathway or edging to the canal on the pub side for a path and although you can’t see it (because the narrow boat is in the way), it does carry on through the tunnel too, it’s just that you can’t see it at the moment. So no, not forgotten, just not visible yet. Hope that helps. Cheers. …………Graham
