DIY Garden Room - the garden room is 7.2x4.5m (externally), with a 2"x5" frame, 120mm PIR insulation, warm roof construction with Shou Sugi Ban larch cladding. We use it as a home office, gym and tv cinema room. Built 75% by Karen and 25% help from her husband.
This episode covers timber frame wall design and tips on building the garden room walls.
BACKGROUND - During the first UK 2020 lockdown I decided to build my family a garden room. The teens had nowhere to hang out away from us parents and my husband was working from home indefinitely and needed office space. We have the space in the garden (even if it is sloped) - so why not build a multifunctional room! I had time on my hands (covid scuppered my business) and had talked about building one for years - now was my opportunity! I learnt tonnes along the way having only tackled fences, shed bases and wood stores before this. Subscribe to see the last in the series when I highlight all the key learning points and tips for building a garden room.

Awesome videos and very helpful. I am currently in the process of building a garden room and have completed the retaining wall and was hoping you might be able to help shed some light to whether there is any regulation on proximity from the garden room to the retaining the wall? Thank you

Hi there and thanks for watching. We could not find any building regs in our County stating distance from a retaining wall, but I would consider if you can get tools in between the wall and building (ours was quite tight and could only use the smaller impact driver rather than drill low down). Also you need to be able to maintain the wall if necessary. Hope that helps. Karen
