Great vids, Paul. I appreciate the effort you put into making them. Watching other musicians' workflow and techniques is a proxy for the inspiration of hanging in the studio with friends like I used to in the past. Anyway, I have a question: is there an impedance mismatch from the mic preamp output to the guitar pedal input?

I had no problems with any mismatch - at least with this setup (Vocoder thru pedals) The Vocoder has a 48+ Phantom Power Switch - This is what I use a lot, when I am recording with my room-mic - However when I am using my Vocal-Mic (SM85) I don't use phantom power. Never had problems with this.

Thank you for this!! Been wondering how to make vocals sound like that. Makes me want to start adding vocals to my tracks. Do you EQ before the pedals?

yes I do use an EQ - but after recording, in ableton. for the final mix so to say. I'll do another more specific video about that - maybe part 13 - How I record Vocals (with the Vocoder / EQ etc.)

@@corbsmann007- It's the mellotron micro - along with some effects (ZVEX Lo-Fi Junky, Tubescreamer, Strymon Flint) I made a video about it - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aa1diZCdzcjIiXU.html (Part 1 - The Mellotron Micro) And here is how I actually recorded this "melody" whichi is the Intro of the song "MOND" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptR5mKVkv9-pomQ.html (Part 8 - How I Record - MOND) :D

I am using the V256 (EHX Vocoder) as a "preamp" - with an XLR-Jack Cable the signal goes from the EHX into the other effets! - soon there'll be a more detailed video about vocals! :)

How are you using the strymon el capistan? Vocals go through it or just for instruments?

I was/am a bit confused on the balanced/ unbalanced thing. I essentially want to do this in a studio setting while tracking vocals but only through a guitar compressor, do i need anything other than my mic( dynamic) my preamp, and my interface? I thought' mic-preamp-pedal-interface. Sny problem with that?

That should work! As you know - In this video I am using a condenser mic, therefore I need +48V Phantom Power - that's why I am using the EHX Vocoder Pedal - because it has a built-in +48V switch. Any other preamp should work as well. However I used to play live with the SM58 (dynamic) and without the EHX Vocoder. So just the SM85 with a XLR to JACK cable + Overdrive-Pedal to increase the Mic-Gain. I guess without any Overdrive / Preamp the Mic-Signal would be too quiet to run it thru other pedals. hope that helps!

Ja, irgendwie braucht das Micro mehr Output - da kann man einerseits ein spezielles Effekt-Pedal benutzen (Ich habe den EHX Vocoder, es gibt aber andere z.B. Eventide MixingLink / JHS Pedals Colour Box V2 Preamp und andere) Oder du verstärkst das Mic-Signal mit einem Mixer/Mischpult oder durch das Interface geht auch.

aja und mit einem Mic-Preamp sollte das auch funktionieren. Da habe ich aber schlechte Erfahrungen gemacht (Golden Mike Preamp durch Effekte - das hat so hart gerauscht, das war grausam)

👍... danke dir! Habe mir jetzt ein zweites Interface geholt mit dem ich das Mikro (Dynamisch) in BlueSky einschleife... da ich ja wieder mit dem Pedalboard über das erste Interface in die DAW gehe!
