In this video I have just removed the intake and valve covers to show the extent of the water in the oil. This engine had about 7 gallons total of water and oil mix inside. The customer reported that oil would actually puke out the top of the engine while running on the water.
EDIT: After viewing the damaged block videos in this series I think you can now see how so much water got into this engine. Every time the #3 piston was at the top of its bore water would dump into the crankcase through cracks in the bore.

I'm putting a rebuilt one in a boat for a customer and the block was cracked and had to be replaced. It was full to the top of the dipstick with milky oil/water mix. I'm hoping that's the only way the water got in. It can get in from the exhaust manifolds as well I think.

Very little water gets in from cracked exhaust manifolds. The water jackets on the exhaust and engine are separate. You are more likely to get bent connecting rods from hydro locking the engine with water leaking past the exhaust valves into the cylinder. The cylinder is sealed by the rings so not much water gets into the crankcase past the piston. It’s usually a crack in lifter valley or a cylinder below the piston.

Hey I’m getting water in all cylinders what could cause that ?

Exhaust manifolds cracked internally on both sides letting water back into the cylinders.

@@moccasinmarine it is also missing the exhaust flappers maybe that can be why? . I will take manifolds off and test them.

Over time condensation can build up in marine engines from outdoor humidity. Marine engines run cold compared to cars and trucks and don’t burn off the condensation. So the “water” can come from built up condensation from infrequent use of the boat or it can be pumped in from the lake or ocean and get in the crankcase through a crack or other breach in the cooling system. So there is a difference in where the water comes from.
