This is part two of a sailing trip down the US East coast on a Mariner 39 sailboat. My friend from high school purchased the boat in Haverstraw New York and helped crew for him to get the boat to West Palm Beach, Florida.
In part two we continue on from Norfolk going down the great dismal Swamp and avoiding Cape Hatteras by going through the Albemarle sound. We also visit the amazing Cumberland Island as we make our way down do US East Coast.
Part one can be found here: Sailing from New York to Florida Pt. 1 • Sailing from New York ...
More sailing related videos will be out soon as I have purchased my own boat. Don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss when I upload.

Really enjoyed this.......i. 2019 I made a sailboat passage with a new boat to me from Annapolis to central Florida following the ICW but went down through Coinjock. The Swamp looks awesome as did Cumberland Island. The only outside leg was Charleston to St Mary's owing to weather. Helming the whole way had to be tiring? Thanks for uploading this.

Wonderful... Concise.. Informative... About to make the same exodus from the winter from Annapolis MD to Brunswick GA on an S2 9.2A... Any details about this part of the route would be amazing. Any advice... Where to stop... Where to fuel... What to watch out for. Doing the trip solo so probably no overnight sails. Thanks so much for your video documentary... Sooo helpful Arthur

Planning a Carolina to Florida sail soon... But many have dissuaded me with talk of a constant southern breeze, being stuck in the gulf stream and all... Seems like you managed, but you say you made it all the way till the last night , under sail wholely? Any idea how much fuel you spent/ time under sail vs motor?

Thank you so much for watching! We didn’t stray off too far, but we’re mostly weather delayed in areas. It could be done faster by skipping more of the ICW, but with the dog aboard, we needed easy access to shore. The east coast doesn’t have a lot of anchorage options.

How did the dog use the bathroom? Also, how far off shore were you sailing?
@OnnoKok
@OnnoKok 3 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for watching. The dog did it’s business on shore for the most part and that played a big part in or route planning. We usually weren’t more than about 20nm off shore.

Roughly how long did it take to travel from NYC to FL?

Hi! We took about a month and a bit. Sometimes having to wait a week for weather, like in Cape May.

How do you prepare for a potential hurricane?
@OnnoKok
@OnnoKok 2 жыл бұрын
For that trip we were watching for potential storms that could affect the trip. There was a hurricane off by Bermuda that actually gave us some favorable winds… until it shifted. In part two you’ll see at the end it was a struggle to get into West Palm Beach. The winds from the south had returned, making progress slow. Normally speaking, like now for example, you plan to have your boat in a hurricane hole or out of the hurricane zone altogether. I’m currently in the process of taking my boat out in a relatively safe area in the sea of Cortez.
