The air is there to break the surface tension on oil. Oil is lighter than water-based solvent. We use that in machine shops to prevent good bacteria (which requires air) from dying and rendering the solvent rancid.

The Air agitates the cleaning fluid ,and does help to clean when you just lay parts in tank. I used a fuel oil tank with an air line with 6 ft of copper line with small holes drilled in it and set a engine block in tank and turned on the air closed the lid and let it clean the block ,heads or whatever worked Great !

Thanks for the follow up on the awesome sauce! I believe I’ll drain the diesel fuel out of my vat and give it a try. And I never seen a vat with the agitator, but that’s a great idea! I might just have to make one for my own. I believe 1/4” copper tubing running straight across the front would do the trick.

Great ideas, Love the "Awesome stuff" us it to clean my $60 sable brushes - removing dry paint and all sorts of other stuff. Building a wash station from stainless restaurant vegetable-steam-trays, (Goodwill $15!). Its a small cleaner 11 x 12. With two trays. One below holds liquid, filters, pump and heater like a fish/sump. The top tray is empty unless I plug it for a bath wash. Ill have a Thermal Control Switch. 50c/122f. ... 120f is about as hot as you need. These will control an Immersion Heater Voltage 300Watt. like coffee cup sized. Only using water based detergents in the system. Seal-All is a good glue for sealing wires it works well in fuel type liquids. Wish me luck

If you watch some videos on ultrasonic cleaners bubbles will be explained in a much better way than I could explain it. Little tiny bubbles are used and apparently the mini explosions when they burst are very effective cleaners.

The aeration adds oxygen to the liquid. After oil builds (tramp oil) it grow bacteria and begins to stink. Aeration keeps the bacteria from growing. I run a fish tank aerator in my CNC mill coolant.

The air is like boiling a part. You can put a part in the washer and let the cleaner do the work but the air moves the cleaner around making it work better.... I have a 5-gallon bucket with an air stone from a fish tank, this works get for cleaning parts with small crevices

Not just agitation. Also, if you have some solvent in there water based that can develop bacteria. Air bubbles introduced in there will stop the anaerobic bacteria from developing which can become extremely acidic.

Good morning Martin ! I believe the air inlet is just to agitate the chemical to clean better. I am also thinking, but could be wrong, doesn't that parts box fit where the air inlet is, so the air will agitate the chemical in the box, is there a hole in the parts box to insert the air tube into it ?

Paint comes off, the original hose leaks (which probably has a plastic tube inside) and the plastic in the pump cracks. I'm guessing a common theme here. Perhaps the cleaning solvent you are using attacks some plastics? The label says concentrated - did you dilute it? If not, maybe that may help.

Blue brown and green/yellow are for 240v connections not 120v. So if you did hook it up to 120v and it does not work well / or slow it’s because the pump is only running half power. Not too good I would think but I’m just a licensed plumber not Electrican……

I went to buy a 20 gallon parts washer today, and the fella sold me "gunwash" to fill it... Not having a clue what I am doing, I bought it. Brought that shiny thing home, tore into the box, assembled everything, and put two five gallon pails of this stuff in there.... That stuff just smells flammable, and I was concerned about plugging the unit in. So I flipped open the manual and on the last page, it says use water-based cleaning solution only. Do not use anything flammable. I look across the garage at the two empty cans of gun wash, and notice a giant flame symbol on the sides.... Needless to say, I haven't plugged anything in, I closed the lid and went and got my fire extinguisher. Can anybody tell me exactly how screwed I am?
@martinbuilt

How about just removing the gun wash and replacing it with the proper parts washing fluid. I think you'll be just fine.

I am struggling to discover an answer on the internet for the following three questions: 1. Is gun wash an effective solvent for cleaning engine parts, specifically in a parts cleaner? Seems to me, the answer here, is a resounding no. Gunwash is used for all sorts of things, but there is not a shred of information on the internet associating it with an automotive parts washer. 2. Will gun wash destroy the pump, or has it already shortened the life of the internal workings of the pump? 3. I feel like the store grossly misinformed me, potentially burning my garage down. Should I just take everything back and politely ask for a refund?
@guygowanloch5221
@guygowanloch5221 2 жыл бұрын
@@martinbuilt I have no idea what "parts washing fluid" you are referring to, because I've discovered a billion different "recipes" on the web. That's why I went to a store that sells both the washer AND solvent, but the idiots there gave me the wrong stuff. It completely dissolved the plastic on the pump assembly... turned it into grey jello....
