Hello Saints! My name is Jeff McCullough and I'm a Christian Pastor.
This channel is devoted to fighting criticism with curiosity as I invite dialogue between Christians and Latter-day Saints. Are Mormons christians? What do Christians and Latter-day Saints agree and disagree about? Join me as I compare and contrast the lifestyle, culture and beliefs of Mormons and non-LDS Christians.

When I was 7 our Methodist preacher discovered my dad had let mormon missionaries, who knocked on our door, into our home. Dad was hoping to help those young men see the error of their ways. Our preacher demanded dad not allow them into our home or have contact with them. This came at a time when dad was about to ask the missionaries not to come back but was astounded at how un-Christ like he himself had been treated by our minister. So he continued to study the LDS beliefs. Neighbors encouraged my parents to not let them in. Mom even caved to the pressure and for a time would go to the neighbors when the missionaries came. Later she was so embarrassed at this behavior. After 18 months of diligent searching my parents joined the LDS church. None of our neighbors let the missionaries teach them. This was in 1957. My parents have many descendants through myself and my 4 sisters. My siblings and I are so incredibly thankful to Dad for persevering in his discovery and making a decision to commit to a way of life that has brought the Savior into our lives in a most profound way. I consider my parents extraordinary examples of true Christians who totally set an amazing example when at first they thought negative thoughts of this "foreign" religion.

At one point a few years ago, the Southern Baptist Convention website had 26 pages of anti-Mormon hate literature for sale. 26 pages of vicious distortions and outright lies. One SBC church kept anti-Mormon hate literature out front in the foyer of the building for all visitors to see. The SBC had created a cottage industry of hate. It has since been taken down. I can only hope that the pure love of Christ seeped into those hardened hearts and that they finally understood the damage they had done.

I’m LDS but in April, 2022, I helped a group of evangelical Christians take humanitarian aid into Ukraine. It was an incredible experience. The thing I loved the most was that even though we all attended different churches…..we were still all brothers and sisters in Christ. Our love of the gospel of Jesus Christ is what unites us. We were united in helping the Ukrainian people. So just like each of us have a different personality….that’s okay….And attending different churches is okay, too.

That is so awesome that you went to help aid in Ukraine. In love I am making this comment. Im sure you have heard it before, so here it goes. If someone claims to be a prophet is wrong about a prophecy they are a false prophet. Joseph claimed the temple woud be built in Missouri durng his lifetime, did not happen. The LDS gospel is a different gospel. The LDS doctrine teaches you are the only true church. So how are you united with any other church? The gospel of Jesus Christ of the bible is we are saved by grace alone. Justifiied by faith alone. The good works follow after the justification. That is what the bible teaches and what the apostle Paul taught. Paul in Galations 1:8 warned if anyone preaches a different gospel let them be accursed. The LDS Jesus is a different Jesus. The Jesus of the bible is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, God the Son. He is the creator of all things, ALL things. But the LDS Jesus is created, not eternal. Joseph taught the bible has errors. Isaiah 43:10 You are My witnesses, says the Lord, And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He, Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. Do you understand that? LDS teaches God was an exalted man on another planet and is now God of our planet. Wow! LDS teaches your saved by grace through faith after all you can do. But Paul said for by grace you have been saved through faith, not of yourselves; it's a gift of God NOT of works lest anyone should boast. Romans 5:1 therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. All the false religions elevate man and lessen Jesus. If I was on that mission trip with you we would have these discussions. We are not united. Much love!

Personally I would ask if having membership in other church’s are ok with your Bishop, and more importantly the Lord. I’m not being rude just concerned. Being that I don’t know what to say really, I leave it in your hands to take initiative. Serving others isn’t a problem, but being a member of another church is different. Because if we really believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints is the true church we wouldn’t join others. I don’t know if I’m misunderstanding, but there’s my concern. I wanted to say something because we are our brothers keeper, and I wouldn’t want another to mistakenly do wrong, or if knowingly then of course encourage repentance. I just want to extend caution.

These ideas are too often based on poor sources or simply listening to whatever someone tells them. @@rachelleherle1178 So have you ever visited another Christian church or asked why Joseph Smith said what he did and looked into if that was true or not? Not just studied the LDS boilerplate teachings about protestants "creating creeds" which is not historically accurate at all. The Trinity was what was understood from the time God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit birthed the church on Pentecost. Over time as humans began to seek to challenge and change that understanding, such as Greek thought wanted to understand Jesus as only God or only Man, then a council of leaders who had been taught for generations down from the original apostles, came together to codify that which was taught and understood from the beginning. I know Evangelicals do it to LDS, too, but the "spin" on the truth by the controlling powers always floors me because it shows their lack of historical context, research and open-mindedness to learn other than what they already think they know is true. I'm thankful for this forum to exchange what we think we know, to drill down the nitty gritty historical roots of all beliefs and hopefully come away more understanding of one another.

11:11 This conversation is so important because we who are religious (especially at this time) MUST stick together and be ONE in God in order to preserve religious freedom. @Zion Mama, This sentiment is vastly different from recent comments you made on another channel referencing me as “wicked” and “preaching an arrogant take on scripture.” Here I thought sharing what I believe was about how we can “treat each other as valuable.” Saddens me that your view of me and this channel has changed over the last couple of weeks. Either way, I appreciate your effort to help me understand your faith up to this point. God bless.

@@HelloSaints Jeff, “heed not the wicked” is not calling you wicked, actually. I don’t assume you are wicked. The ideas and talking points you have used are what I would consider wicked, because they lack full perspective and I have noticed the little seeds of doubt you sew into your videos whether purposeful or unknowingly. I do feel, with all due respect, that almost every Evangelical I have met does take an arrogant approach to learning scripture because they rely on the interpretation of what they have been taught to invalidate another’s interpretation of what is being taught and exclude them from being considered Christian rather than seeing them as being contributors of the truth God gave them. Respectfully, I do feel it is arrogant to prop up the creeds and doctrines of men who never claimed to be prophets. But that in no way means you are arrogant. It is the Evangelical way of thinking that is arrogant, even Pharisaical to an extent. I can see how others may view that of us as well. As for you, I think you’re just a good guy trying to do what is right. Like Saul who became Paul was also good. That’s my honest opinion. I could be wrong in that opinion, but I am not perfect either. I appreciate you building a bridge and I also appreciate the testimony you have of Jesus. But I do not see how you can read 2 Nephi and only talk about the anachronisms in your videos. There are beautiful Holy Spirit filled truths in these books you are reading in the Book of Mormon. How can so many be skipped? I can’t fathom it. Forgive me, but the Book of Mormon saved my life. So it is a little hard to hear it picked apart with so much scrutiny instead of true curiosity. I am just being honest here, and I don’t mean to offend. I do watch your channel to help guide others to understand the Church doctrine better and to help them not get lost in the anachronisms without the deeper understanding that only can come through years of study and experience. These lambs of God are precious to me. And as a Mother in Zion, I do defend them fiercely. I would not defend them if I didn’t know and not guess certain things to be true. The Book of Mormon is scripture and a message to this nation, which sadly they are rejecting as Christ prophesied they would. They rejected the prophet (Joseph Smith) who bore that message and brought it forth under Christ’s personal direction. It’s not all their fault either. Gross darkness has covered the minds of the people. They are blind to what they cannot see. And now I see and cannot unsee. So I can only be truthful here. I’m sorry if that saddens you. My intent is to help people not get confused or losing sight of their connection to God in discovering truth through the Holy Spirit and what has been revealed inside us over the seemingly confusing what some term anachronisms. However, now that I have gotten your attention and gotten the opportunity to speak my piece, I will makes some changes to what I wrote on David’s channel so it reflects more accurately what I mean: that you are not wicked. Just the ideas termed anachronisms that get perpetuated often by the Evangelical community are wicked. Because Satan is behind the terming of those truths as anachronisms. So we heed him not.

@@HelloSaints and just for reference, this is a comment I made defending you as an instrument in God’s hands to someone who had thought badly of you on David’s channel. I said, “There is some common ground in that pastor Jeff may be providing a very important bridge to help preserve religious freedom in this country. He is getting Evangelicals and members of the Church talking instead of being so antagonistic. He is wresting the Spirit as far as his understanding of scripture, but sometimes the Lord withholds information to accomplish very important moments in history. my advice here is just to see how the Lord is using him. Is he weeding out the tares by pulling those week in faith? Is he helping bridge a needed gap between us and mainstream Christians? Very important questions here..” There is not a question of how I see the Lord’s view of you. He loves you. All sincere hearted people will eventually gain exaltation in my view. So there’s not a condemnation here. We don’t view it as those in heaven and those in hell as do many Evangelicals. We view it as everyone in life has a purpose directed by God and those who accept the truth once God (not man) shows it to them, they are accepted into Celestial rest and resurrection. So once again, even those perpetuating evil ideas are not automatically categorized as wicked. Blind maybe, but not wicked. Why am I showing you this? Because hopefully it will help you understand our perspective and how there are defenses had here that are tough to break down. Being honest and upfront is the only way to get at the heart of our hearts. So once again, this is not to offend, but to bring to the table, as you have described you want to do.

@@HelloSaints and here’s another comment on David’s channel I made, “I think most of us know that he is preaching [his own ideas of the] gospel. I do think there is merit in his channel in that he is reaching out a hand of understanding and working together to preserve religious liberty. We need allies and to be one in protecting the religious liberties God afforded us. I have thought that perhaps the Lord is using him for a specific purpose, but he’s definitely preaching his arrogant evangelical take on scripture. He is not led by the Lord in his interpretations.” This is an honest opinion. I don’t want to hide this fact just for the sake of being “nice”. A person can come to terms with truth if you are willing to face this hard stuff. Which is why I am not hiding it an addressing it directly. That way it doesn’t have to be an elephant in the room with us saints. We don’t think you are bad. Just missing some light and knowledge that we have been given and that you too will one day be given should you continue faithful in being guided 100% by the Lord God in all you do in fulfilling your mission whatever that may be in this life. I’m a lot like Matthew in the Chosen (love that show btw), so this is meant truthfully, but kind. It is not nice, but kind and honest. I hope that helps in you understanding our human and imperfect experience 💟🙏

I recently picked up a several hundred page college level book that went over the past 2000 years of Christianity to describe the history and important theological discussions the led to diverse churches and denominations. Pastor Jeff, I served my mission in Auckland, New Zealand, called to serve and preach in the Tongan language. I know the absolute truth of having the Gift of Tongues as I know I never could have become fluent in the language without our Savior and Heavenly Father. I share this though because I think you may find this information very interesting. Tongans, who come from the tiny little island of Tonga, hold the greatest percentage of any nationality, who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 60% of Tongans are Latter Day Saints. I probably have a bias, having served my mission in and amongst the Tongan community, but they are some of the most faithful and loving members you will ever meet. I believe you would really love listening to them sing the hymns during sacrament meeting. I remember the video when you went to church and you were surprised by the music, but if you ever come out to Utah, I would be absolutely honored to take you to a Tongan Ward (Yes, there are that many Tonngans in Utah that they not only have Wards, but also have I believe 5 or 6 Stakes, which usually are comprised of 3-5 wards) You kind of spoke on this, I believe you made mention of how when your congregation sings, it's really upbeat, shouting Praises and Hosanna to the Lord God Almighty, but wasn't like that when you visited the ward you did. I'm sure you've been told, but we hold Sacrament meeting as one of the most sacred things we participate in every week and it's not so upbeat because we strive to treat it with as much reverence as possible, but I promise if you came out and went to a Tongan ward meeting, they still hold the reverence during sacrament, but when we do sing, you will hear and maybe be tone deaf for a few days because in their culture, amongst all denominations, when they sing and praise to the lord, they sing with all their might. And on top of that, they truly are some of the most loving people you'll ever meet on Earth! But thank you so much again for all that you do!

Let's drop all the dogma and learn to Love like Jesus taught. I am a former Mormon and it has been a roller coaster ride with the we are right and know it all, no we are right and know it all. I have come to the conclusion no one has ALL the answers but that GOD IS LOVE and that's ALL I need to know. ❤

I would somewhat disagree. There is more to it than just God is love❤️. God is love and that is why he sent his heavenly children to earth, His son Jehovah, one of the God’s in our pre mortal existences was chosen by the Father to be a Savior to all God’s children that would accept His gift of the Atonement, garden of Gethsemane, his death on the Cross and the tomb, breaking the bands of death by rising on the third day. We are given many scriptural examples that confirm Jesus, [Emmanuel] is the only begotten that is spiritual & physical son of the Almighty God the Father. We are His spirit children and we are children of our earthly parents. When we die our earthly body is laid to rest and our Spirit goes to a Spirit World; two verses testify of this temporary place for our spirit between earth and the day of judgment. (Luke 23:43; John 20:17) so when he told Mary to not touch him, for he had not yet ascended to His Father, he was in Paradise establishing his gospel, just as he had done on earth prior to his death. After all of the apostles had died, we were in the dark ages, or under the great apostasy. Then in 1820 in the last dispensation, or the last seal God raised up another prophet to establish his gospel once again with the help and assistance of angelic men who was given the priesthood authority when they were all on the earth. John, the Baptist, Peter, James, and John, and Maroni, a prophet from the new world or North America, who buried the plates or scriptures they kept of their experiences just as those who kept records for the holy Bible. Both Ezekiel and Isaiah speak about this record that would come forth. There is so much to all of this, that it takes a journey to figure it out, and I am grateful that those who, following Pastor, Jeff McCullough, and Jeff himself are doing this journey, and if their hearts are opened, and their ears are listening, God will reveal to them when the time is right.

@@TheJlleyba The journey is supposed to be spent walking with and following Jesus, not trying to figure out other people's confused and confusing visions and manmade religious practices. The gospel is easy enough for a child to understand and decide to let Jesus live in their heart and then follow the Holy Ghost's instructions the rest of their days, spreading that loving truth that we CAN be forgiven and we ARE forgiven and live FREE in Jesus and because of Jesus.

I appreciate your work, Pastor Jeff. I have watched plenty of youtube videos where Pastors speak about "Mormonism" as if they know what they are talking about, yet give inaccuracy after inaccuracy with our belief (some I think is just a genuine misunderstanding, but others is flat out malicious and purposeful distortion). It is refreshing to get an honest look from the outside in, sharing similarities and differences in a respectful manner. I have a lot of respect for you and for others that offer that respectful approach. And while I have a firm testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I prefer that if anyone loses their faith in the restored gospel that they would find a "soft landing" with someone like you where they can maintain a faith in and a relationship with Jesus Christ rather than abandoning Christ altogether.

Jeff, I’m LDS and I was invited to Bible Study with my Christian neighbours. It was a little foreign to me but I felt the warmth and acceptance as a person- despite my different beliefs. And I learnt that we have so much more in common ( The Love of The Lord ) than we have differences. I have grown to love my fellow Christians as a result. You know what I’m talking about. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I also am a descendant of the men and women who were apart of the formation of the church. So often I’m told that I am not a Christian and it is spoken out of ignorance of what this Church teaches. I love speaking to Christians of other denominations because I see them as brothers and sisters, disciples of Christ. Thank you for bringing us all together because God wants us to find unity with each other not division ❤

@@billmartin3561 that is what Your Christian church teaches, it does not mean we are not Christians, that is the whole point of his videos, to not be so critical.

I have really appriciated your videos because it has given me a better understanding of evangelical faith and the beauty found within it and an understanding of the area's in which latter day saint beliefs are similar and the areas an evangelical perspective may have challenges or different perspectives. It is a great place to have helpful and good interfaith dioloage in ways that I haven't seen in too many other locations. I have a great appreciation for other faith traditions and love when they teach me greater light and knowledge and new perspectives. I also love this channel as a place were beliefs can be discussed in such a kind and reasonable way. I think that forming friendships and having christ centered diolaoge, having a community that accepts differences of belief and celebrates commonalities is so important. too often misinformation between faith groups leads to distrust and prejudice. Channels like this give me hope in a bright future where love for God and one another is at the forefront of people thoughts, words, and actions, and were we can let go of, move past and forgive past grivances.

Beautifully said, Jeff! The Savior taught that the way we would know who His followers are is by their ability to love one another (John 13:34-35). You're a terrific example of a follower of Christ and I consider you a friend to the Latter-day Saints.

Pastor Jeff, you mentioned Charles Wesley. Did you know LDS has 6 hymns in their hymnal authored by him? Hymn 66--Rejoice, the Lord is King!, Hymn 102--Jesus, Lover of My Soul, Hymn 118--Ye Simple Souls Who Stray, Hymn 200--Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Hymn 209--Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, & Hymn 217--Come, Let Us Anew. They even have a hymn by one of my favorite hymn authors, Fanny J. Crosby, Hymn 251--Behold! A Royal Army. (Wish they had "Blessed Assurance" my favorite by her, though).

I hear you! I love Fanny Crosby, too, but I can understand why they wouldn't include Blessed Assurance because the LDS don't teach assurance. The members have a lot of blessed work to attend to to make it to the level of heaven God lives in "if they are found worthy". It's really quite sad for someone who does live free in His assurance.

I appreciate this video. I'm a convert of the LDS church, and came from a Evangelical church that I loved and was hard to leave. It took me a few years of studying the church before I joined. I have had a lot of same questions you have addressed, and I had read a great deal, even going as far has meeting with missionaries for 2 years to learn more and eventually trying to convert them, until something changed in me. I'm also in the St. Louis area, and it was sad to see the disconnection between the LDS church and the other Christian faiths in the area. I lost friends, including the strong a relationship with my pastor once I joined the LDS church. No one seemed to want to associate themselves the LDS church. I moved to Idaho in 2015 and it has a strong LDS presence as well, and that was a nice feeling as I could "let my guard down." I moved back to the St. Louis area in the summer of 2022 and that disconnect was still there when I came back.

Happy 1 year anniversary! I absolutely believe that you were led to do this work of bringing Christians together in Jesus across all denominations of Christian churches. As you mentioned, it is a privilege to be here together. I love that you said, this is not our story but it is God’s story. It is so true! Thank you!

My husband and I are church planters in Orem, Utah. We have been here for 11 years. I can’t begin to express how much this channel has encouraged my heart. So many people think that evangelical Christian’s are the ones shouting in Temple Square - when in reality so many are like you and me who truly love LDS and want to bridge the gap. We want to offer LDS another way if they are looking for something different. This is how love is done right!! Thank you!

I've never been to Temple Square, but I would suggest that the ones shouting aren't evangelicals at all; they're fundamentalists. There's a difference.

I love the idea of replacing criticism with curiosity. In today’s contentious world, that is what can help us care about the back story of ant situation and approach life with the love of Christ guiding our attitudes and actions. Thank you for being a wonderful example of Christian love Pastor Jeff.

If you really dig deeper into both faiths you will find that we don't believe in the same God and Jesus. It's really very clear. God is infinite, eternal and very big. There is no other God but Him, as written in the book of Isaiah.
