As a Newcastle fan, he wasn't as bad for us as it is made out to be. You could see his quality finishing. He was sharing minutes with shearer and bellamy. Shearer was normally preferred to him, so he couldn't get a run of games to showcase his talent. I always thought he'd have been good to keep for the next season when shearer was supposed to retire.

Yeah I agree he was decent. My guess would be that he was on some substantial wages and the assessment of his fitness wasn't good. I can't see any other reasons why they wouldn't take him on for another season.

@@jamesdewbrey shearer would have been the best teacher for him in terms of how to reinvent himself on the pitch. Shearer for me, with a bit of bias as a Newcastle fan is hands down one of the best strikers ever. His goal scoring prowess never diminished after his knee injuries and how he had to reinvent his playing style. Shearer was never rapid, but he had some pace when he won the league for Blackburn and when he first joined us. But after that knee injury and a year out, he came back with 0 pace, couldn't beat a defender but he totally changed his game and focused on being the best target man. The best striker of a ball. He was so intelligent, he knew where to position himself, where to wait for a tap in, how to strike a screamer from 30 yards. Kluivert could've learnt that off him.

It wasn't his fault, it was awful Management by Newcastle and Souness. They failed to utilise him at all, he was just about in his prime and was a perfect partner for Shearer. didn't help that some Newcastle were being spoiled brats about it and criticised him.

As beeing born i 85' and getting my football wits at around 93-95' ish Kluivert is one of the strikers i remember so fondly in my youth arguing with my friends as who was the best, had the most skills ect. He is foundly connectect to my footballing youth and will always be on the blueprint on my footballing enjoyment and knowledge. Hearts out for the man who could have been so much more and with the right moves and a bit more luck consider to be one of the alltime greatest

The only reasons UEFA cowered and didn't strip Juve of the title, is because they'd have been shown up for hypocrisy for not stripping Marseille rightfully of the champions league they 'won' vs us. They'd match fixed throughout the season, so they could be fit. Both Ajax and milan should have one more champions league vs their names.

My co-fav player as a kid. Alan Shearer was my hero. I love Kluivert so much. This video makes his career seem sad or like he fell short. He did amazing. He was the top scorer for the netherlands until RVP broke his record. Won a CL. Almost won another CL if it werent for bad luck in the pens. He also took good care of the family of the person who died in that car crash, he still does till this day. He's an example of never give up and even if you make a mistake you can still be a good person.

I'm glad to hear that he did that and does that, I couldn't find any information about it. I didn't want the video to make his career seem sad, I think he was an unbelievable player. As stated at the end of the video, he won a hell of a lot, but my personal feeling is that, given a bit more luck, he could have achieved a lot more as his talent and ability were off the charts.

I really saw him as top player able to compete with the greatest players of that time. If I may request you to please make videos of Christian Vieri, Jürgen Klinsmann & Alan Shearer

It's wild that Kluivert was born on the same day as Van Nistelrooy. I'd never even heard of Van Nistelrooy before he signed for United in 2001. Kluivert had already scored the winner in the Champions League final in 1995 🤯

@@jaxnorthmusic7863 He wasn't a big star though. Trust me when I say hardly anyone knew who he was when he signed for United. Maybe part of that was that he had just come back from a massive injury layoff so literally no one had seen him for over a year and part of it was that there was no internet back then so we just didn't know or care that a guy was firing in the Dutch league unless it was Ajax because they were dominating Europe. Kluivert was a big star known around the world since he was a teenager. Ruud never had that kind of recognition until he started scoring for fun in the PL when he was in his mid 20's.

Found Kluiverts lack of comment on the guy who was killed in his speeding escapade to be a bit disturbing. It was all about him and how it effected him. Appreciate it's just a quote from what was probably a longer piece and he might have been a bit less narcissitic than the impression given here.

A don’t like how he was feeling hard done by with fans and not taking into account that he is alive playing football earning amazing money but killed someone but he sees it not fair get abuse from fans. He took someone son father brother uncles life because he was living it up. He is well paid and still here so just take it and stop thinking it’s not fair and should not forget what he did or feel bad for him the star not the lost family member. Apart from that he was a good player. A want to know more about incident and if he helped affected family or just didn’t care

From what I could find, he said he tried to get in touch with the family but they were not interested so he wrote them a letter. However, the driver's wife said that it was such a small letter it was like his teacher had dictated it. I'm not sure if he had any further contact with them or helped them in any way.
