It didn’t get critical raves at the time but listening now it is a fantastic experience. There is a lot of variety on the album and such a sense of joy about “Ram” that comes through in cut after cut. The brilliant “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” wasn’t intended for single release but US radio stations started playing it off the LP, forcing Apple to issue it as a single. It went to No. 1.

He never performed it live! I LOVE this song and how he is able to even DO that with his voice!!! Shows you the "acrobats" with his voice, I thought Helter Skelter was his "screamiest" voice, but when Ram came out and I first heard Monkberry Moon Delight I realized he topped Helter Skelter with this vocal! I bet if you played this song for someone who is totally unfamiliar with the Beatles or McCartney's solo music , and then play "Here There and Everywhere" after Monkberry, they would NEVER guess that it was the SAME man singing both songs!!
@deannabayless8025
@deannabayless8025 2 жыл бұрын
The lyrics use a lot of the words and terms his little daughter made up, and some of the kudspeak from her neighbor friends. “Moon” was her word meaning “milk,” and “monkberry moon delight” was the term she made up for her favorite strawberry shake. And so forth. The vocal of the song was Paul trying to be like Screaming Jay Hawkins, who eventually did a cover of this song, malking it a full circle tribute.

@@darost I don't have specifics. John spoke of secret messages littered throughout the album that he believed was directed at him. Lines like "catch up" and "don't get the gist of your letter" seem oddly placed within the song. Could it be directed at John? Who knows. Whatever it was, it pissed him off enough to get back at him on the Imagine album.

@@melaniesweeten5401 Those are the kinds of things that make their music infinitely rewarding. Love it! As Paul explained it this song is a little poking fun at his kids not being able to say "Milk" so they said "Monk" plus he said he borrowed from the song "Love Potion #9". However it got here, doesn't matter, He Sold it! Another commenter mentioned Screaming Jay Hawkins version. Paul said he used to play Jay's version in the lead up to the show.

This might be my favorite McCartney solo song cause it's insanely good, but unfortunately I don't think it was released as a single and isn't featured in any compilation / best of, gotta check that though...

Sorry but McCartney doesn't play all the instruments on RAM, the guitarists were, David Spinozza and Hugh McCrachken and the drummer was Denny Seiwell

@@beatlebrian4404 Yes, some people get confused with RAM. I've heard many people saying he played all the instruments, but that was on McCartney.
