Not sure why? Most springs are made for there specific applications based on cross section number of coils and length for a certain compression or tension. Guess if you needed to do this, do not weld like that! Noticed you did not have a ground cable on the part. Grounding to the lathe will arc the bearings in the head stock and can ruin any modern electronics. I agree with the guy who said make a similar fixture without welding then machine it. Maybe like a threaded or press fit fixture would work.

With the mechanics of springs I was taught you can't replace a round wire spring with a square wire die spring . The load and compression rate are totally different.

No safety glasses and welding on a lathe without the earth strap on the welded component spells disaster for the head stock bearings.

It always makes me cringe to see somebody running an arc welder on a part while it's in a lathe spindle. Anything with ball bearings in it is getting wrecked with all that current passing through the bearings and races. The only thing you can do is put the ground clamp as close to the part as possible and hope that you don't have enough Eddy currents to screw up the bearings in the long run. I have an older lathe with bronze bushings in the headstock. This is the machine that I use for welding and building up stuff. I save my good lathe with good bearings in the headstock for producing accurate work. And before people hate on me I know that some lathes have tapered cones in the headstock as well.

Можно было типа крышку с резьбой сделать и не варить шайбу каждый раз! А так норм.

If you're broken down in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a lathe, angle grinder and welder....this could come in handy for those quick side of the road valve jobs....lol

Это не будет долго работать! С закалённой сталью так нельзя! Пружина круглая должна быть иначе лопнет.

Конечно сварка быстро и надёжно. Но я использовал для таких целей разрезную втулку или кулачки с большой выточкой. Так же центром поджал и вперёд, при этом меньше можно допустить погрешность в размере, отжал проверил, поджал продолжил.
