This is One of the Most Beautiful and greatest Matches In televised Bowling 🎳🥇🍻
@joeambrose32604 жыл бұрын
I've thrown 19 in a row and many runs of 12 to 17 over 2 games but never got a legit 300.I quit trying in 2015 after nearly 40 yrs

This is one of the all-time greatest matches. I've watched it many times and it's still exciting to watch. The master Johnny Petraglia and Mr. 300 Bob Learn Jr!
@arthurr78663 жыл бұрын
That was so cool. 300-279 and the hometown boy with the big crowd cheering him on....Wow !

300-279! What amazing scores to see! I was excited to bowl my first 300 game. I’ve also bowled some 279 scores. This was a fun match to watch.

Fascinating that at least twice in PBA history, the person shooting a 300 beat another bowler who had achieved the same feat on TV, (Petraglia over Bob Benoit)
@ajreynolds57553 жыл бұрын
Sorry to correct you good sir but Petraglia beat WRW JR when he shot 300, Butch Soper beat Bob Benoit shooting 300 is what you were after =). And CK Moore shot his 300 against PB3 2 years before he shot his. pretty cool how theyre all connected. Jonny Gunther beat Don Johnson for his 300 when Don had the infamous 299 as well on TV.

That's happened plenty of times

This dude Bob Learn straight up lived 2 houses down from me in Erie as I was growing up. He legit was the nicest dude ever. He moved when I was young but he and my dad were good friends
@MNsportsnut2 жыл бұрын
I heard he was living in Harborcreek. I spent my High School years in North East and bowled at Eastway a couple of times.
@Mark_Cadden2 жыл бұрын
@@MNsportsnut Yeah I lived in Wesleyville growing up, moved to Lawrence Park and went to Iroquois! His childhood home was around the corner. He moved when I was like 10, must’ve moved to Harborcreek!

I remember watching this live on TV. That was probably the best match ever! 23 strikes a just 1 spare between them! Every ball was in the pocket for both. I've never bowled a 300 game in my 42 years of bowling. There is obviously skill and always a bit of luck.
@bobstewart80322 жыл бұрын
@Doug Spooner lol. Maybe. I've had 9 in a row twice. That is as close as I got. I forget what they call your type of "300 game".

I was there at the Erie civic center to see Bob Learn bowl a perfect 300 game.

Could you imagine rolling a 279 and losing to a 300.
@AcessDBpro2 жыл бұрын
The only way to get 279 is to bowl 11 strikes, including 3 in the 10th, and to go 9-spare in any other frame. Tough break. A total of 23 strikes were bowled between two players in regulation. (There have been only four matches in PBA history, none on TV, that involved two bowlers each getting 300 in regulation, and having to roll-off for the victory.)
@mathewhorodner2000 Жыл бұрын
Jonny Petraglia actually bowled the better game
@derekortt28177 ай бұрын
@@AcessDBpro depends on the frame. If you spare in the first frame, it is a 290, second frame is 280. Had to be from the 3rd through the first shot of the 10th frame

I watched this on WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit, which was the ABC affiliate picked up, in my part of Canada at the time, Saint John, New Brunswick, on Fundy(fun-DEE) Cable, now Rogers Cable, Channel 7. To me, the broadcast began at 4PM Atlantic Daylight Time on that Saturday afternoon, and this was the 1st time I ever saw a 300 perfect game, for $100,000(the prize amount it should be returned to, PBA...get on that XD), on a live broadcast of the Professional Bowlers Tour on ABC Sports. I jumped out of whatever seat I was in in my living room then, and gave a bit of a loud 'YES!', because the 14-year old me was EXTREMELY happy to see someone as cool as Bob take down the big money like that. To me, he earned every dollar won, and then some. And to also have it happen, basically, at home, in front of his people, made that a REALLY special thing for me to see. To hear their roar made my heart happy too. =)

Hang on, you were in New Brunswick, yet picked up my hometown ABC channel?

@@roygoodhand1301 On cable, yes. The 1st ABC affiliate we had was WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine, but I think that it was 1989 when a change happened. o.o

Unbelievable another 300-279 match. There are now two matches like this: Mike Aulby and David Ozio Bob Learn Jr. and Johnny Petraliga
@bobbyricigliano2799 Жыл бұрын
Petraglia was pure class in this match. He shoots 279, immediately gets out of the way, and gestures to the audience to settle down so Learn can finish with no distractions.

Was amazing to watch this match. I jumped off the couch when that last ball was thrown. Growing up an hour from Erie, made it even better. I never threw a 300. My best was a 289 and several 250+ games. Felt bad for Johnny... throw 11 strikes and lose.

I actually watched this whole show when it aired back when, they made sure Bob learn won that event. In the next game he faces Parker Bohn 3 and never have I seen it but this once they actually gave him a redue on one of his shots. He ended up winning the match 280 to 279.

Really shocked Learn Jr was never inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame. He has records that no other pro has touched like amount of 300's, high 3 and 4 game televised series. He is one of the best to ever throw a ball.

Interesting thing I noticed, Bob Learn here is the 1st person to bowl a 300 on AMF lanes, the 9 before him were all Brunswick. Out of 31 TV 300 games, 9 were in AMF alleys/lanes.

Gotta LOVE Nelson Burton, Jr. talking about Bob Learn, Jr: "He leaves nothin' in the bag!!!" "He doesn't throw (what we call) any weak sisters!" (either a 7 or 10) Then about Johnny Petraglia: "He was involved in the Tet offensive, so nothing is feared by Johnny Petraglia..."

Now that's when the PBA was at its best bigger crowds vocal crowds players getting excited yes I know they both had the first nine but then you watch today's product and the people throw the ball get a strike they sit down they don't do much a few of the The current PBA product is dying I see that the president of the PBA and I believe she was also president of Valero has resigned they need some new ideas and better publicity for the PBA I still say the PBA is current website sucks
