This week I headed out to meet my friend Andy for another very wet and wild wander in the glorious Peak District. We parked up at Gradbach and made our way up and over the moors to the southern slopes of Hen Cloud, from there we battled through the wind and the heavy rain towards the top of the Roaches. The next stop was the impressive Lud's Church before a short walk back to the car..... Then as is customary, coffee and cake but this time it was at Flash Bar Stores.

I did the roaches a couple of years ago. Typical end of august weather: miserable and misty. We parked at gradbach, but headed straight for roach end and up to the trig from the car park, then back down and through luds church. I'd love to revisit one day as we missed hen cloud.

Dean - thanks for replying! I concur in the matter of Knopfler's brilliance as composer and musician - which may explain why I was so anxious to have him credited, having somehow missed your "tailpiece" about him. I hope you saw my almost immediate recantation, once I discovered my mistake. For those of us who don't get out as much as we'd like, your videos are a great solace - so if you're ever tempted to think "why do I bother?" Remember you're performing a great public service! Regards, William.

Easter weekend we stayed at a farm cottage in reapsmoor, my son & his gf drove over to walk the roaches, bearing in mind their walking usually consists of taking the dog for a bimble, they had a great day, clear skies, if we go back, i will try to have my own bimble across them loved the soundtrack to this one atb Barry

Thanks Dean - another great adventure. That one has to be on my hit list soon and some great history to check out. Will await the willy wonka to dry out a bit.. I find mud more slippy than snow.. Hopefully, some sun soon in the GPD! Really like that remix too btw.
@DeanRead
@DeanRead 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, thanks for watching mate. Lud's church is definitely worth a look, if I'm honest though I don't think it ever fully dries outs. Even at the muddiest of times it's still passable further up so you can at least get in to have a look from the top end, it's just that bottom part (willy wonks bit) where it's usually bad. Really enjoyed your Thor's cave video too mate

Than you for sharing yet another great video Dean. A thought that crossed my mind, while you were out in that wind and rain, would be to use something like the Kestel 2000, wind anemometer, which not only gives you wind speed, (max, ave and current), but also current temp and wind chill. They are waterproof. ;)

Another great video Dean, shame about the wet weather again, (Those Sealskin socks would have been handy there mate!) I reckon you just have to go for it! Interesting seeing all the old carved initials and dates in the rocks at the start, a lot of similiar stuff up at Higher Shelf Stones. That Luds Church looks a great spot and the coins in the tree is becoming commonplace all over, seen these in Yorkshire and up in Scotland. Thanks again for sharing. Dave

Hi Mark thanks for watching. My Berghaus jacket is the paclite goretex version, it’s about 6-7 years old but it’s still like new. I’ve hammered it and used it in all weathers and I honestly can’t fault it. I use a RAB Firewall jacket mostly now but if I’m honest there isn’t a great deal of difference and the RAB was twice the price. I’d definitely recommend the Berghaus. All the best. Dean
