Join me on a vibrant journey through the public market in Dumaguete City on the beautiful island of Negros in the Philippines! 🌴
In this video, I start my adventure by buying roasted, unskinned peanuts with salt and garlic from a bustling market stall. As luck would have it, I arrive just as 300 kilos of raw peanuts are being delivered in 50-kilo bags. Watch as these are stowed away in the narrow market stall-a sweaty job in the tropical heat! 🌞
Just around the corner, I discover another stall dedicated to all things peanut butter. Here, peanuts are transformed into creamy goodness in a variety of forms: pure peanut butter, sweetened peanut butter, and even chocolate-flavored peanut butter. 🍫🥜 Once again, I'm lucky enough to catch a fresh batch being prepared.
Next, I take a short walk to DODONG'S GRINDING SERVICES on Colon Street, located between the public market and the new UNITOP. I’m in for a treat as I watch customers having their soaked rice ground into flour for the popular 'puto.' Another mill is busy making peanut butter, with eager customers waiting in line.
The cashier, multitasking as usual, packs roasted peanuts into small plastic bags for sale when she's not collecting money.
In another section of the shop, electric grinders are at work on the hard flesh of ripe coconuts to produce much-needed coconut milk. Other grinders are busy with spices, and I get to see white pepper being ground to perfection. 🌰🌶️
Finally, I witness the refreshing process of opening green, young coconuts and filling plastic tubes with fresh coconut water-a perfect tropical drink! 🥥🥤
