You MUST take a look at Ren & Chinchilla HOW TO BE ME ( LIVE ) It is a song written by Ren about his dear friend who commit suicide from the very bridge they filmed their performance from. It is even more amazing, in my opinion, than Chalk Outlines. The synchronicity of Ren and Chinchilla together with the depth of emotion they both put into the song is a pure wonder to behold. just before the 6:00 mark, you guys were talking about “cutting the line” and Don makes a great point of they don’t write their songs and auto tune the vocals to the degree of not being able to perform it live…the one thing I wanted to add is that is also why the majority of the worlds biggest stars lip sync their “live” shows. btw, I love the hallway they chose because the natural reverb is crazy!

Ren picks the location where he films his MV very intentionally...in this instance in a hallway..where the reverb n echoey effects of their voices n the instrument add so much to the song n the experience hearing it..making it more haunting n beautiful

Rens skill in musical tone comes from taking the simplicity of common themed things that maybe a gimmick in some retrospect... A common melody or line and reforms it in a common sense, unique manner that makes it sound so familiar to everyone but is a unique thing in how he delivers everything so skillfully planned out to get his message across.

4:20 Just realised something Sertraline is an antidepressant... that's the first line Chinchilla is singing...wow "sertraline and a sip of serotonin" that's a great line...because it kicks in the seratonon...so it's talking about depression. " In the gallows I'll balance on my toes so I can breathe" is that attempted suicide I wonder? It's definitely an original song. I love the detail of the flicking lights to Chinchilla's entrance as it did with Rens entrance, a small detail but it's quite a simple and clever to do ( I bet the timing took some planning though)... the video is cool, shows you don't need alot to make good art! 7:06 " It's such a perfect day, take it just incase" that's about taking the antidepressant to prevent the suicidal thoughts and suicide attempt, at least that's what I've just got from it. (I could have done with this song 10 years ago, I can 100% relate to this)...I'm pretty sure it will resonate so deeply with many people. 1 in 4 people suffer with depression! And covid fuelled mental health... Simon Sinek is trying to rephrase it to be called "mental wellness" so there's less of a stigma and more of a focus on the health of our mind, people work out physically we need to do the same for our minds, especially if we've had difficult childhoods, but we need to understand that trauma can come from seemingly small situations too. It's important to understand that the majority of us do not get a free pass in life where we leave the planet completely unscathed that's not how life itself works ( every species on the planet suffers traumas, imagine being a gazelle facing a hungry lion for example)...anyway we can do something about it by firstly understanding ourselves and talking to the right people who can help us understand and work through it. Also by society talking openly about it and not stigmatising the fact that we all experience difficulties with our minds, I mean the mind is really complexed ( we don't fully understand it yet) and our emotions aren't always that easy to understand because one emotion can mask another. Going a bit deep here but it is a deep song! 😂 Alot of research is being done in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. I personslly really appreciate Louise L Hay's healing work as I'd gone through the mental health service for 15 years and it was a failing service ( they just wanted to shove pills down my neck for clinical depression, I went from the age of 18 until 33 before I was diagnosed with ADHD and they never even diagnosed my C-PTSD, just kept diagnosing me as clinically depressed...thankfully things are changing in the medical field) Anyway I came across her work and that was the start of my journey... also thanks to KZfaq Medcircle was created and other clinicians started up their own channels which has been major in both identifying and understanding mental health issues. Getting back to the song. It's such a good song! And it's great in that it highlights the issues with depression and suicide. Both Ren and Chinchilla are really talented artists! Both are fantastic singers and I love the fact that Ren deals with some difficult subjects he speaks to alot of people. However we must not put Ren in a box, he's a true artist and needs the freedom to explore all aspects of his creative impulse without people putting too much expectation on him. I think Ren's musical journey has actually served him as it's allowed him to be versatile so he's already broken out of the mould that alot of artists fall into when they're signed early on in their careers. With Ren it's a treasure trove do many styles and expressions of his artistry that keeps it interesting!

When I first heard this song I thought he was covering another artist’s song because it’s so well written. The only video I’d seen by Ren was Hi Ren. I should have known better after watching that.

I love ❤️ all Ren but this is perhaps my fave due to msg as I too have lyme disease 🦠 💚and have been bedridden from a coinfection for 8 months just recently. I’ve had lyme since I was 30 and now I’m 60. It is pure he.. to have. I too was misdiagnosed and to this day many Drs don’t even acknowledge there is a long term illness associated with lyme causing a multitude of autoimmune illness. I’ve been down a similar road to Ren with being over medicated; given meds that were more harmful and even experienced psychosis also. It is a horrible nightmare so to have Ren and for you to be putting Ren out before the world is helping to give a voice to those of us who have remained voiceless for soooooo long. Ty Ty Ty for doing these. I actually found Ren thru you and loved his music before i realized he even had lyme so it’s not just about the lyme. He is phenomenally beyond talented! Ty again. I do love Ren and Chinchilla but I like his duet with Bibi called "Crutch" more. He wrote it about 6 years ago, when he was in and out of hospital, had just had a breakdown and really thought he was losing his mind - before the Lyme's diagnosis. He said it's about his fear his illness would push everyone away. It's not live, the music is Ren on the piano. It is hauntingly beautiful. To me, this song (and Crutch) could be on radio. He writes his own song, his own music and performs it too.
