This kit contains all you need to get started with making polymer clay pens. Penn State Industries (PSI) has been making pen blanks and other similar accessories for the woodturner market for years. But over the last few years, Polymer Clay Artists such as myself have been using their pen making kits for making gorgeous polymer clay pens. So they put together a great kit containing all the stuff you would need to make great polymer clay pens. In this unboxing video I show you everything that is inside this kit and give you my personal review.

Thanks for the info! I have been purchasing pen kits from this company for a long time. I have been slowly purchasing items from this kit that I don't already have for the past few months and I'm going back for the cutters and a few other small pieces thanks to you. I'm really interested in using the mandrel with a drill,I currently sand pens by hand which is time consuming I think using a drill will cut my sanding time dramatically. I have never tried the pen that comes in the kit, I currently use the Gatsby, or the Polaris pens, I also use the Big Ben, but I find that assembly is challenging. I can't wait to see what you do with this kit Looking forward to future videos! Thanks again.

I just bought this starter kit recently, great kit and Penn State Ind is a great company, they frequently have sales on stuff. I turn pens and other items and was eager to incorporate polymer clay as an option. The canes they supply are nice, but I also want to create my own canes to use on pens and key chains and stuff. So glad you reviewed the kit today! Would love to see a video of you making a pen.

I do have a pen making tutorial where I use polymerclay to make a faux burlwood technique and add it to the Slimline pen kits. If you're interested in that tutorial here is the link: www.beadvideos.com/back-issues-03/vol-060/ I also have several cane making tutorials which you can find at www.polymerclaytutor.com

I ordered a kit and it came yesterday. Neat kit. Today I made two pens. After getting done the pens caps seems to be to small.I managed to get the tube flush with the ends(which is a little difficult without a pen press) It worked until I tried to put on the pen cap-seems to be to small. I emailed the company to see why this is so. I think you can only put it together one way. I may be doing somthing wrong but it seemed to work except getting the final piece on.

Very impresive collection for $99.95! I wonder how much they would charge to send it to Cyprus? But what I would love to see is your comments about the clay that is included in the box! Thank you for your wonderful work and for sharing with us!

I watch your videos all the time. They're great and easy to follow. I would like to see you make a pen and wonder if you could make the other slimline pens with clay with the mandrel bushings and a drill?

The only thing the kit seems to be missing is the pen press, which presses the pens together.

Seems to have everything except the pen press... guess I need to see how much that part is, and how much pen kits are as well. And those canes... imagine not having to do the work! Great time saver.

Wow what a neat kit! I like the cane holder slicer thing! I'm assuming you can buy it separate as well? I also thought their canes were pretty! I'm also assuming anyone could call them and ask for a catalog? Is it called "Penn State catalog "?

What did you think about the quality of the poly clay that PSI uses? Is it comparable to any of the Sculpey lines? If so, which lines? Thank you.

I would like to see you actually using the items in the kit to make a pen or 2. That kit is nice but wouldn't work for me. I already have plenty of clay blades for one thing. I also would not want them to send me clay or canes mostly because of freshness but also because I have a lot of both. I also don't really need the sanding or polishing sheets. I have a lot of that on hand as well. I also have 2 acrylic rollers. It is a great set up for beginners though. I would buy the items I needed separately though. :) Nice to know they have made a move in the clay direction. I am getting a lathe in January though. :D - Heidi

Sorry this is totally unrelated to this video but I have a question for you. Have you tested Liquid Pearls with polymer clay? I just used some and it seems to be holding up. I couldn't find a video where you tested it so I was curious if I missed it. I would love to hear what you think about using this dimensional paint on PC.

That's a nice kit.. btw I was looking for a coating for polymer clay which would have no gloss at all, will remain as it was before coating.. kinda frosty.. but even mat coatings give some shine.. i found a review on this coating " Vernis velours de Cléopâtre" and that's exactly what i was looking for.. but couldn't find any content who'd ship to our country.. :( do u know any other brand of coating like this?

In your review, you state that you would not use the PSI Mandrel when baking the pen blanks. Why not?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Henry, just because it is kinda long and only holds one pen blank. I can do many at once if I just slip them onto a bead pin and use my bead rack to hang them while baking. I meant to get into that, but I guess it slipped my mind. I have been planning to do a follow up demo video, so I will try and mention that in that video.
