I expected Penn to say smth like: "what town did you come? what is your mother's name?", and when she would start answering, he immediatly interrupts her and says: that's not important, WHAT NEEDLE DID YOU PICK? (he asks calmly)
@DannyWood79893 ай бұрын
My elaborate theory is: 1. Force the card using a dodgy deck. 2. Swap out the dodgy deck before the shuffle. 3. The string holder conceals the needle and or forced card. 4. There are duplicates of every needle either within the string holder or the ability to put the required needle into the string holder, via the table. 5. Not sure when the needle is threaded or put through the card. 6. There's a lot of fumbling, turning, and misdirection.
@Herxal3 ай бұрын
Sounds close. I guess when the spectator picks up the needle at 3:05 it has already been switched for a similar looking one. Teller needed to have only a small number of replacement needles ready to put one on the table which would not make the spectator suspicious for those few seconds until she loses it in the haystack. Note that at 3:05 Teller also seems to cover the needle partially so the spectator does not see much of it. Teller would then have plenty of time to fix the original needle to the prepared card.

@ROGER20953 ай бұрын
My guess is the whole deck is the same card - Jack of spades - and when everybody's watching her climb the stairs, an off-stage assistant slips the already-threaded needle and card to Teller. He then brings it out during the hay shower.

yeah definetely a card force, rest is just sleight of hand and there are many ways of achieving this. i doubt anyone will know the exact method that they used, this trick can literally be made in 10+ different ways. however one thing that bugs me, if they have duplicate needles, what if she picked something really big and flashy and it falls onto the ground in a way that everyone can see? were they really counting on that needle will be covered with hay and it won't show up? it would ruin the whole trick .. even worse if it got caught in Teller's hair or clothes xD

Visuals for the audience. A lot of theater is doing things in such a way that the audience in the back can see and hear the performance so they don't feel cheated out of the price of admission. Penn's an old carnie and would definitely appreciate that as a basic of performance.

@erics20913 ай бұрын
This clip is from the end of an episode from maybe 4 months ago. I felt like I saw it before as I was watching and did a quick search. Not sure about a different host with the same girl. P&T don’t use plants and don’t allow their guests to use them either. The producers pick “tv ready” people from the audience that are willing to be on tv, sign a waiver, and wear a microphone.

@@TheBennyFisch or it could be just forced card, maybe there was 5 of those next to each other just in case. I dont know how they got the needle though. Whats certain, however, is that the needle and the card was ready before she pulled the rope.

The producers pick random people from the audience that are “tv ready” and are willing to be on tv. They sign a waiver and get a microphone put on them. They don’t use or allow “stooges”/“plants” in their show or for the contestants on the show. The trick has nothing to do with the girl and the card being forced without her realizing it. Teller has the needles and duplicate card in his pocket. This string trick isn’t new, just the method/appearance. Can be done with anyone.

Yep. Same with P&T - always the same suits. They do this because the individual acts are not recorded in the same order as they are aired. To create continuity through out all the episodes, they always wear the same outfit. It was the same with Alison and Bob Ross in previous episodes: 1 season - 1 outfit.

(1.) The card and needle were obviously prepared (2.) --> they knew what card and what needle she would pick (3.) The cards were all different --> forced card trick (4.) Obviously they knew which needle she would pick --> must be a "mentalist trick" e.g. using trigger words and colours ("red darning" was right next to a red needle) which everyone would pick when one is excited and must act quickly.
@tocov3 ай бұрын
There is no such thing as "trigger words" to make you pick something. And not magician ever, let alone at the level of P&T, that would hinge the entire trick on the chance that their subject will pick the correct item.

@davidg112353 ай бұрын
@@pvanukoffYeah, on rewatch, it would be easy for Teller to even just swap out the deck (from one where all the cards are the same) after she picks one. He spends a lot of time hanging around, behind the table, or hands out of sight, while Penn is doing his really intense patter to hold her attention.
@MR-ld8kg3 ай бұрын
Again: obviously they knew which needle she would pick. It wasn't a "hinge". A lot of choices (in a particular setting etc) are quite predictable. You can see this pattern/trick on almost every video about "mind reading". It's always the same. FOR EXAMPLE: when women have to choose a suits from a deck of cards they choose hearts.

We in Australia have many slang terms which have no racial connotations here whatsoever but they do in the USA. So we often get in trouble on social media for our name for savoury biscuits, amongst other things. The political correctness is stifling when people are penalised for the tiny chance that someone half the globe away might find something they say mildly offensive.
@saggyballsfpv3 ай бұрын
Ya'll think at 1:30 Teller ain't swapping that deck? They started with a deck with all the same cards and swapped it with a random deck. It's easy to know which card she'll select when they're all the same lmao. Too nay cuts and before that we can't see what Teller is doing, but his shoulders indicate a lot of movement that we can't see as he scoops the cards into a deck.
@TheRfGuy3 ай бұрын
Of course he is. That's the whole misdirection by Penn. They probably have doubles of all of the needles, so Teller loads the second red darning needle with the thread through the card. The stabbed card is probably held behind the spool of thread. As the hay drops, Teller pulls the thread further, bringing the card along. Or some other such move. Maybe he simply drops the thread and uses a loaded thread/needle/card combo. Regardless, it is still a great trick. Thoroughly entertaining.
