And I think I'm officially the 1000'th sub. Glad to have found the channel. Left the UK about 20 years ago and miss it so much. Lovely to see around the area again. Great video

Thanks very much Paul for becoming my 1000th subscriber. It all feels a bit surreal that I’ve reached that number. The UK certainly has its flaws, but our fantastic trails and national parks certainly make up for them. Thanks very much for taking the time to comment 👍

Glad to see you're on your way, Anthony. A shame and quite ironic to hear you suffering from plantar fasciitis so soon before the start. But I can see Day 2 has been uploaded and I'll be watching that next. Taking the long drive north myself tomorrow. All the best and I'll catch up when I can.

Hahaha Nonce now that’s Classic. Great videos I “tried” the PWay in May 1997, got as far as Haws and the weather was a heat wave, lack of water and a 25k pack I was unprepared for the walk tbh.I’ll try again one day.
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
It’s certainly a tough walk, particularly if you’re carrying that much weight. I’m not sure id have made it either! The main reason I chose September to walk the PW was due to the likelihood of it not being too hot. Having said that, if was about 28 degrees on this first day if I remember

Well done mate 👍👍👍👍 good luck with the rest of it. Once black hill is out the way the worst is over. Btw I was just up bleaklow the other day (amazing wild camp at bleaklow stones). I still got asked where the crash site was lol. But the best bit was on the Pennine way where two young women had turned back because there were “two fearless black rams blocking the path”…. They were just sheep lol
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
Haha. I did get asked at Bleaklow Head. God knows how they missed it by that much. I’ve seen people at Bleaklow stones before who were looking for the crash site? 😆
@kevinstark42942 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJohnson1 really? All the way at bleaklow stones? 😂 there is an aircrash site at “near bleaklow stones” it’s just a small pile of wreckage. I wonder how many people have stumbled on that and thought they’d found the super fortress wreckage!

Just squeezed this in before we head to Scotland for 5 days, so will be way behind when I get back . Fingers crossed you remain injury free on the walk and I have been putting in a canny few shifts for Ben Nevis too. Sun glasses is always a good sign, breathlessness not as good lol but pacing is the best way to go. B&B would be the way I would do it too, sensible decision and I am going to have a lot to catch up on when I get back lol. Take care and the very best of luck!! Cheers Alan

Excellent Anthony. It's a shame I've a lot on this weekend as you'll be crossing my local moors in the next couple of days and I could've joined you for a few miles. Give my regards to White Hill and Blackstone Edge 😎. You seemed in good nick there on a tough first day. I think I said it before, my experience of the PW was that I got in better shape as it went on.....saying that, I was much younger then 🙄! Looking forward to Black Hill and beyond. Cheers, Chris

No worries Chris. Just watching and commenting on here is great support. Loved covering new ground beyond Black Hill today. Really enjoyed it, although the extra 3 miles to the B&B after a long tough day wasn’t great 😆

Bet with the thunder forecast it's been humid walking too 🥵 good work on the pacing tooand ice to see mermaids pool as that ominous weather hovered on the horizon! ⚡😬 Will keep our peepers peeled for videos, and support where we can, maybe post a tae bag or two ahead to tour next stops 🤭☕❤ Pleased that you are feeling on the up, good on you for getting out and starting the adventure! I suggest get some Sure feet Innersoles for your Plantar Fasciitis, I struggled with it a few years ago and these innersoles the Blue ones did the trick and I don't suffer at all anymore - good luck with the rest of the journey - that is a new thing a sign post to the crash site, but still people will go hunting for it ill prepared in flip flops and a T-shirt in winter
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
I did order some insoles but when they arrived the instructions said they needed wearing in gradually so I haven’t brought them with me. Fingers crossed the foot seems to be ok. I’m doing lots of stretching, massage and airing the feet which hopefully will keep me going

The big day finally arrives! Glad you more or less beat the weather to your first stop👍 Hope the PF doesn't get any worse. I used to suffer from it when I did more running and found that firmly massaging the feet worked to loosen up the tendons. Best of luck Anthony!👍😊

Hi Anthony! Wow great job 👏🏻 glad you have started your journey along the Penine Way. I really hope your foot doesnt give you any further issues along the way. Im sure you have touched Kinder Low Trig many a times anyway so walking pole definitely counts haha. If you feel more comfortable etc staying in bnb's then fair play. Its your adventure so you do it how you want 💯🙌🏻 Great to see the part of the route as ive done it a few times over the years near enough but ive got a train back down to Edale then lol, have never done the other sections so will be so interesting to see them! Then I need to kick myself up the bum and do it myself haha. Sorry you have been feeling down but hope this journey and being in the great outdoors will help uplift you. As you said you have gave it a go and thats the main thing!!! If you didnt even try you will always think; "I wonder if id have tried how would I have been..." etc. I will pray and keep my fingers crossed for you my friend 🙏🏼🤞🏻 Take care, get some rest and ill see you in the comments on Day 2 💪🏼💪🏼 ATB... Chris ✌🏼

I’ve been looking forward to seeing the start of your adventure & thru-hike. A tough trail. You got some good views from Kinder Scout. Planter fasciitis is quite tricky to manage & can be very sudden with its onset. I hope it doesn’t cause you too much of an issue going forward. Glad you made it the B&B with a cuppa on arrival. Take care & happy hiking 🥾

Well done Anthony. Normal to get the jitters before a big challenge like this. Also maybe u tube can add additional pressure in our minds but really people appreciate the journey if you make it or not (I almost said don’t be such an old woman but that’s not PC these days 😂). It’s great you are loading these every day I’ll look forward to watching each one and joining on your journey 👍🇬🇧😄

Good to see you out again Anthony. I’ve been looking forward to this series of videos. I think you made the right decision to give it a go, otherwise you will always wonder “what if”. It’s not a race so just take it easy, I had similar concerns on the West Highland Way. Slowing down really made me appreciate the hike better rather than going off like a sprinter, which is what I would nor have done. I now hike slower on all my longer hikes and find it much more enjoyable. It was a good first day, well done and good luck with days 2,3, 4 etc., I hope your feet hold up. 🥾🥾🥾

Thanks Tony. Slowing down and taking in the scenery is definitely the way to go. Makes me realise how much I’ve probably missed over the years

Awesome Anthony - glad to see you are out on trail. Am curious to watch your progress and am wondering if the trail is mostly exposed as this first day was ? Also, would be interested to see what you are packing out, since you aren't carrying a tent and such.
@AnthonyJohnson12 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Day one is probably a good representation of the trail. It passes through a lot of remote areas. Most of the trail is at elevation and the climbs get bigger the further north I go
@safromnc86162 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJohnson1 So that raises a ? in regards to elevation and elevation gain. Here in North Carolina, in the US, most of our Mts are in the 3000-5000' range. Mt. Mitchell is highest @ 6600 or something like that & we have a part of the AT. Still a far cry from 13,000' in CO and such. So what kind of elevation are you dealing with as it can be a factor.
