This was a wonderful night recently, where we got to carry on our bonfire night tradition, after two years of lockdowns (vulnerable).
We opted out of actually attending bonfires a long time ago, which was then cemented in, when I had to start using a wheelchair. Mud isn't great with spindly wheels. So we usually sit outside the event, get a KFC, and relax enjoying the cooler weather, with magnificent fireworks at the end of it. Bliss.
This time though I wanted to fly one of the drones. The bonfire had predictably issued a NOTAM, which was not a block on flying, but one where safety concerns would become prevalent should we choose to fly there. This is all common sense, especially given there would be crowds present, and so we respected it.
Instead, we picked a spot on Google Maps, that we could see the bonfire and fireworks from, and then set up there instead. Still with KFC of course. We ended up viewing the spectacle from about 1.4km away, outside the NOTAM area, and over water, which looks beautiful. This video is that flight (and maybe more).
