The plaintiff claims he hired the defendant to paint his pickup truck, but it was botched. He says he had to pay someone else to do the job, so he’s suing to be reimbursed. The defendant says he was doing it as a favor, but the plaintiff snuck into his shop halfway through the job and took his truck bed back. He claims the plaintiff is angry because his girlfriend left him, and denies owing anything.

My husband is an electrician and has a friend who has a shop. He and the friend made a deal that my husband would do some electrical work for the shop in exchange for a paint job on his truck. Hubs did the electrical work, and then brought the truck to friend’s shop. A YEAR later, he still hadn’t completed the job. It got to the point where my husband was looking to buy another truck because he didn’t have his. Finally he got the truck painted, but I still think his friend took advantage of the situation.

Sigh...ppl please, please, please!...get freaking receipts! Omg! I still don't get how ppl roll around with cash and pay everything in cash and have no receipts, no invoices, no contracts, nothing ...it's just crazy! If I was JM I would throw ALL cases out where they say they don't have receipts because they paid in cash. How you gonna file a lawsuit, pay court fees, set a date for court and not have a damn thing to prove your case?! Ugh!

it took my cousin who worked at a bodyshop 2 months to fix my truck nd paint it a whole new color nd it costed me 1.2k-1.5k less then what body shops wanted 😎 he asked the owner of shop if he could do this side job using his shop/tools after hours of course

Defendant was working too much and too busy. Some people will only work if constantly nagged. Didn’t get into extensive detail on how much work was left; the judge was fair in dividing it in half.

I mean it was easy for the other guy to finish it sooner when he did do work on it. That was less for them to do. He did take too long though. Judgement was reasonable

Because he took it to a backyard chop shop. Of course there is no receipt. No receipt, no proof of payment... no tax owed.

Is the defendant a friend of the judge? He got half the money and did maybe 15% of the work. The work he did was maybe 2-3hours tops and about a third of the prep work. Meaning 2/3rds was left of prep then 100% of the paint too! Horrible decision by JM.

Wow, this so reminds of work had friends do over the years with vintage electronics. Trying to be a nice guy I'd say "ah, no rush". NOT A GOOD THING TO SAY! Unfortunately, many people think to themselves "okay great, I'll just work on it whenever I have the time." You have to set some kind of reasonable time frame. The plaintiff was more at fault than the defendant.
