Wow this was a lot of fun and easy to follow their explanations. I love when the manufacturers really breakdown their tech. It takes it from just sounding like a cool marketing term to a full understanding on why something is done and how it benefits consumers. They have some really cool information. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford a pair of bookshelves but even if that never becomes the case I’d love to just hear some of these products.

@@Youthman It has nothing to do with quality. Why is it when people, like me mention China, the response is about quality? Its about communism, child labor, fair and livable wages. I was interested in these speakers until I learned they are made in China and the price of these speakers(expensive) does not reflect the cost of being Chinese made. A bit disappointing
@Youthman
@Youthman 2 жыл бұрын
I get it. Unfortunately the reality is everyone wants American made but they don’t wanna pay American made prices. So unfortunately a lot of businesses are forced to manufacture overseas. There is a high probability that your TV, appliances and electronics in your home, the clothing you wear and the computer or mobile device you are using to comment on this post were made in China. Nothing wrong with wanting to support American Made products, but most that make a fuss about it are not consistent with the rest of their purchases.

It's also based upon target clientele. The folks buying these will generally "have a guy" who they call to get them their stuff and don't care what the cost is. That's how the dealer market works. How most CI target companies work.

They are probably just 3 tweeters. It looks very much like a copy of what MK Sound use in their legenday S150 series. It´s not a new design, it has been used in THX certified studio monitors (by MK Sound) for the past 25 years. The way he explaines it sounds so much like the white paper from MK Sound, I´m pretty sure it´s just a neat copy of their trusted design. The use of 3 tweeters enable the cutoff to the woofer to be lower than the usual 2khz. Thus calling it midrange.

JTR’s measure extremely well also. They very well might be able to achieve it. It just costs a premium for the license and I don’t see that license converting into sales for JTR.

It’s difficult to compare to brands when you cannot listen to them in the same room to compare them. I can say both make incredible products. JTR is definitely more industrial looking but if cosmetics are not important, they certainly offer a high performance / value proposition

The reason prices are not provided is because they deal through dealers. You have to contact a dealer to get prices. The same thing you will find with McIntosh, Sonus Faber etc. Ballpark estimate is $7,000 - $9,000 per speaker.

These speakers look like serious business, but even their "entry level" R series cost about $30k just for the 5.2 set of speakers and subs, not including electronics for amplification and processing which could easily be another $3-5k in the lower price range. This is completely out of reach for 99% of people. However, when you consider spending $10k on a system that won't come close to this level of performance, then maybe upgrading years down the road, I can see Perlisten as truly end game in terms of being the last system you would ever want to buy.
@Youthman
@Youthman 2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind, Perlisten doesn't really offer an "entry level" speaker. The R Series is more affordable than the S Series but it's still a considerable financial commitment. Their target customer is not the mass market like SVS, Klipsch etc. It would be extremely difficult to introduce a new brand and try and compete with those brands. They are smart to introduce their speakers in this mid-tier level as there is much less competition. I say mid-tier because there are plenty of brands that can run $100K - $250K for just a single pair of speakers.

They seem to be quite high quality but a couple things concern me. You would think being made in China that the pricing would be more reasonable. When someone compares pound for pound and quality Perlisten is quite a bit more expensive than others. I.e. Kef, Polk, Canton, Klipsch, Arendal, etc....... I looked at a subwoofer spec....... D12s......they mention -10 db and -6db numbers. Why? They are fluffed numbers. Why not show the truest output spec of -3db?? Its really an insult to fellow audiophiles. Odd they would think that's a good idea to list the specs that way. I have a pair of Canton 890.2 speakers I got new and shipped for $2100. GERMAN MADE, 63lbs. Their comparison R5t towers....7k! 58lbs. Pair of Kef r11's can be had for $4800....83lbs.....etc.

You can have a great speaker without being THX certified. But with Perlisten being a brand-new speaker line, it was incredibly smart of them to be the first to receive THX Dominus Certified. While these guys appear to have a nice product, I’m predicting problems for them. The marketing strategy of relying on distributors and brick and mortar stores allows them to only touch a tiny fraction of the real marketplace. When I went to their website there was no price structure. Always a huge red flag for me. They also appear to be really smart guys, but they have a little bit of an air of assumption that people will seek them out because we will somehow magically jump through hoops to buy their products. Well, without a good idea of what things will cost,(and I assume that the aire of superiority will drive their prices high) I’m not even going to pursue them. When I research to buy items, these guys are just too difficult to deal with, and I hate dealing with a dealership or distributor, I want more cost effective items, and I don’t want to pay for 3 stages of middlemen that add zero value to my purchase. I’m out.

@@Youthman I’m confused by your comment. Are these speakers available via Best Buy? The ones I have were not. Thiels in my listening room, and Bowers Wilkins in my theatre, with custom active feedback subs in a sand enclosure mounted on concrete pedestals. I’m not saying or implying that everything needs to be mass marketed, I just am saying that the brick, mortar, dealer, distributor business model has been largely crushed by the internet. When I do give a dealer type store the benefit of the doubt to check things out, I can’t stomach the unknown quantities of details that I have to turn over to someone that I don’t really trust because their entire business model is built upon inefficiency, even if their products are amazing and their knowledge is excellent. That’s how this industry got into 25000 dollar turntables and wire that costs 200 dollars a foot. Adding line conditioners to devices that don’t even use a/c power past the initial transformer. If crutchfield would carry them, then we would have something…. At least I could access them, research them better, and make a decision based on price if I wanted to proceed. Hell, I would even buy them from a dealer, no problem…. But in the meantime the ability to research these is pretty sparse.
