I started reading Robin Hobb because of you 3 years ago. It changed my life. Ive read them very slowly because I knew from pretty early on that this series is something else. I am on the final book, havent yet started because I know I am going to grieve the ending of this series for a long time…. But thank you. Thank you for recommending Robin Hobb. Its one reason that makes life worth living for me. Thank you thank you thank you.

The thing about Ruby Red is that it was written in German... The translation just doesn't do it justice, it takes away from the story. So, I understand why you didn't like it. But if you ask any 25-year-old, this was THE YA series to read in Germany when we were in middle school! It's so popular that they made all three books into movies!

I watched this video this morning and I immediately saved some of your all time faves on my tbr. and then this afternoon I stumbled into my local bookstore when I was on my afternoon walk and ended up buying 'city of brass', which is one of the books that peaked my interest. they have a very limited English collection so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it on the shelf. This is exactly why I follow you. I trust your reviews of books. I thought I was going crazy when I would ready "popular" books and then couldn't even finish them because they were so bland and predictable. You were the reason I first started reading RJB and now I'm obsessed. I can safely read whatever you recommend and know I'm about to get into some seriously amazing writing. FYI, Katherine Arden's new standalone just came out and it's *chef's kiss*

I read the Lumatere Chronicles/Finnikin of the Rock series AGES ago because of your recommendation and I loved it!! The second book is my favorite because of the journey Froi goes on. I really think it's quite mature and has more substance than a lot of the YA fantasy I've read (and I've read a lot haha). More people need to be reading and talking about that series!

To be fair, I have yet to read it, so I can't attest to how good it is (though I have been hearing good things from friends), but I kno0w A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen is Nordic inspired as well. Might give it a try? I adore her Stolen Songbird series about a girl kidnapped into a world under a mountain full of trolls. I really enjoyed her writing in that YA series, O perhaps this new book of hers will be good as well. :)

You’re probably already on your Japan trip. Hope you’re having a wonderful time! I would add to your list The Nsibidi Scripts series (Akata Witch, Warrior and Woman) by Nnedi Okorafor. I’d rank them all as GREAT! Tor has released two of her earlier books, Shadow Speaker and Like Thunder. I enjoyed the first and just getting into the second. You can definitely tell they’re earlier works, but it’s nice to see how her imagination has always worked.

Well, you've just added some new fantasy books/authors to my TBR. You don't mention them here, but if you've never read any of the books by Tamora Pierce, I can HIGHLY recommend them. I started reading them in 5th grade (almost 24 years ago, yeesh...) and I still re-read them every year. I firmly believe they hold up to this day. My favorite of her series is the two quartets and the standalones in the Circle of Magic series, but I love everything she writes.

I'm probably the only person who liked the Frugal Wizard's Handbook. I relate to the feelings of failure of the main character experiences, and I feel like he's very relatable. Maybe it's telling that the people who don't like the book have their lives together. And people like me who don't have direction are the ones who like it. I thought the illustrations and bits of Handbook were hilarious. I love anything to do with parallel universes. And the end of the book and the characters' fates gives me hope for myself that maybe I can figure out what I'm meant for too someday. And maybe I'm good enough the way I am and I don't need to seek perfection. And at the end of the day, I can compare myself to a fictional character who really messes things up with his life and say, "Well at least the decisions I made are better than that!" haha

If you like Six of Crows, definitely check out Lies of Locke Lamora (the Gentleman Bastards series) by Scott Lynch! I am nearing the finish on it and its sooo good. I feel like there are a lot of things that were taken nearly directly from it in Six of Crows, but thankfully Bardugo does, over the Six of Crows duology, become her own work with less direct inspiration from Gentleman Bastards. I love both, but I think Scott Lynch's work is superior. Just be prepared for the feels. Much like Robin Hobb's books rip your heart out, Scott Lynch is often cited similarly when people talk about this series.

not me bein so bored and done with shadowhunter books that im unhauling all of em xD idk the last hours trilogy books were just soooo long and its just always the same thing i hate that the characters keep things from each other which leads to drama..and the romance wasnt even that big and the plot too. idk i wanted to finish it to know how it ends and at least have it as read but honestly my least fav trilogy she has so far ngl. i do wanna read wicked powers trilogy when it comes out. im reading a curse so dark and lonely rn and im enjoying it but yeah agree is nothin special. i feel like im also still pretty new to fantasy and ive only really read YA fantasy. love acotar and tog series and crescent city. i like that its has plot and romance in em. and i dont like just romance and smut and no plot. i think im also very much into fae and vampire fantasy books rn ngl, also love the cruel prince series. i think we ve different taste in fantasy i think bc uve read a lotttt more fantasy so uve read wayy better books which makes sense too. i read the grishaverse books yearsss ago and tried readin king of scars but honestly dnfed half way bc im just not invested in the world anymore even tho still wanna know how it ends but have other series i wanna read , plus king of scars duology books are long i think i shouldve read it back when i read the other grishaverse series to enjoy it

If you like romance and fantasy I'd suggest trying Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder (just stick with the original trilogy I'd say, could be a good bridge to a more fantasy heavy trilogy if that's what you want to try) and also Jennifer L. Armentrout's books. I particularly liked her Covenant series starting with half blood. They tend to be quite fun, more romance leaning urban(ish) fantasy books that are YA. The Prison Healer trilogy is also really good if you wanted to try a more fantasy heavy slow burn. Most importantly - just keep reading different things and find what you enjoy regardless of what other people's opinions are!

@@0bookhoarder096 ive heard of poison study years ago and yeah def interested in em. jennifer l armtrout new fantasy books are a nope for me.. from what ive heard they are really romance and smut heavy and not that much interesting plot and they alsoo sooo big and theres just so many of em. i like romance in fantasy but i dont want the whole book to be romance and smut (i personally dont really like a lot of smut gets kinda boring i just wanna know what happens next in the plot) ive read her alien books years agoo tho those were good. yess ive the prisor healer trilogy in my tbr too if im not wrong. yeah for sure ive a bunch of fantasy books to read that are a bit older like curse so dark and lonely and serpent and dove, caraval, once upon a broken heart, red queen etc (these are all older series that ive had on my shelves for years and havent gotten around to em so im excited to hopefully gettin around to em soon)
