Don't get SCREWED by a Ford Dealership. After having to have the dual-clutch replaced in my 2013 Ford Focus Titanium a few months ago, now I have run into an issue where my transmission stops engaging while driving (feels like it shifts into neutral and won't pull). This video shows you the $35 fix that a Ford Dealership (Capital Ford of Charlotte, NC) wanted to charge me $2800 to repair and told me they would have to "drop the transmission" to replace the part(s).
THE PART NUMBER IS AE8Z-7C604-A. You can google them and find them everywhere.

Hey everyone, sorry for not posting or replying in a while. My wife had total knee replacement surgery on March 22nd, and on March 25th a bloodclot went to her brain and she suffered a major stroke. She went into a rehab facility for some time, then came home. On June 18th, she fell and bumped her head and suffered a brain bleed due to the blood thinner Plavix and low-dose aspirin she had been prescribed, and had to have emergency brain surgery. She just came home a few days ago and is doing well, but I am on FMLA from work thru August to take care of her.

Mechanics base what they do on bulletins from the manufacturer, their experience with what works, and what makes the shop money. Slapping in a $150 part that Ford says will fix everything that takes less than 20 minutes is a win for everyone... As long as it works.

But didn't get a tcm code. Proceeded to tell me it's going to cost 3200 dollars to fix. Told them I already replaced the actuators. They told me I would have to pay 3200 and might not fix it

@@dopessongs3635 Check your grounds. Under the Intake filter, remove the box and remove those 2 grounds and clean them and give that a go. I have a focus 2013 and I was having slipping problems at the first couple of gears. I changed those clutch actuators (bought OEM ones) and reset the transmission. For the first couple of hundreds of miles it was horrible. It was skipping gears. I realized turning off the car and turning back on made my transmission not skip gears. After some 500 miles, it got super smooth because transmission learned the way I drive. So far after six months it is very good. Thank you all for sharing knowledge! Also, I take it easy with the acceleration, and I drive like an old man. I get 33 MPG in the city

Check your grounds. There are three you need to re-do, and they consist of removing the ground wires from the chassis, grinding off the paint so that it gets a good ground, and then tighten the grounds. There are a bunch of videos on KZfaq about the Ford Focus Transmission Ground Fix. Thanks for your service brother.

You are a flipping genious. I have a 2012 Fiesta and 2015 Focus..The Fiesta is done for. The Focus I did all the cleaning of ground connections, changed the fluid twice(which is a bitch to fill back up) and ive been dealing with intermittent no reverse and slipping, grinding, over shifts to higher gear for the last year and half. I didn't qualify for the class action buy back because 4 repairs by Ford had to be done by 2020..Your video is the only one that makes sense for the symptoms...This whole time its been the actuators...I replaced the bottom with a new one and put the bottom on top(top actuator was corroded). My check engine light is now off and reverse always works. Shifting is on point. Little bit of a studded from 2nd to 3rd but it works perfect now. Thanks bro. Funny thing is, not even Ford mechanics know that replacing those fixes it. You're the man !!!!

@@kristianmopsticc2887 ive replaced the upper&lower actuators...both cv shafts driver/passenger, outer tie rod driver side, and flipped over the motor mount on upper passenger side. The car drives like it did when I first bought it. Actually better because when I got it used it already had a slight shudder when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. It no longer shudders, vibrates, slips, or grinds...Took $300 of parts and combined different days of maybe 4 and 10 hrs before I could get it this good. But I was bound and determined to figure out how to make it good considering my 2012 Fiesta is broke down, and my 2007 Tucson is broke down. Bottom line, I ultimately only needed to fix grounding(free-20 min work),change fluid(1.8qts needed so buy 2 qts- $6...30 min work) replace actuators($100...20 min work), fix motor mount(free..20 min work), and replace outer tie rod($21...15 min work). I'm sure $120 and someone you can trust can watch youtube videos and fix your car in less than 2 hrs.

Update...well after roughly $250 which covered 2 CV Axles, 2 actuators, draining-fill-draining again-refill automatic trans fluid, motor mount(passenger-top only), having front rotors turned, new break pads, outer tie-rod driver side, new battery, grinding off paint on every ground connection, oil&filter change...the car has driven better than it ever has since I got it 4 years ago....no slips...no shudders...no check engine light........for about 5 days maybe about 10 local trips around town and about 40 miles on highway....and then suddenly out of the blue the f*cking light comes on, a little out of gear, and lost reverse. Now it was a really hot day here in AZ and I was driving a lot. I pulled over added some coolant, let car cool, then it went back to good and eventually the light turned back off. I was happy for 5 days but niw knowing that at any given time it could just go out again makes me sick. I"'ll be getting rid of it soon. My opinion now is...The problem cannot be permanently fixed, and an actual full recall of all these years Focus & Fiesta with duel clutch should be taken off road. It's not worth the headache and it's a safety issue to driver and others on road !!!

OMG! BRO THANK YOU for posting this. I bought this car for a commuter. My scanner said I needed a new TCM when i first bought the car($300). My mechanic checked it out and said the TCM was fine but the trans needed to be replaced (which cost me $2K partts and labor) to be replaced in the Transmission . I bought it and had him install a rebuilt trans. Yeah, that didn't help. He told me that it"might need to be driven for a few hundred miles to learn your driving style. As a pretty good mechanic myself I'm throwing out the BS flag on that Shiz!. My car would feel like the clutch was slipping all the time. No OBDII Code and no check engine light or anything. But when driving I had to be extremely gentle and never get on the gas hard, if I did the engine would spin and the clutch would slip. BAD. And sometimes the dang thing wouldn't even shift into reverse as all. I just found your video and ordered the parts last week, then today I finally had time to do what you said and I am so stoked. I've had the dang car for over a year and it now drives and shifts better than it ever has for me. It's so nice I'm seriously considering keeping the car. Because as recently as last week I told the wife I was going to take the next offer I got one it regardless of what it was. But now I'm thinking about keeping it.

Mine was trying to buck me off skipping gears reving etc... It had a message transmission over heating and had a po87b error code. It completely quit engaging on i10 pulled over and let it sit for a few min and eased into a hotel. Saw this video next morning and got the part local at ford parts dept. Changed it in about 10 min including jacking up the drivers side enough to easily slide unde the front. If you're replacing your lower shift actuator it is in the very front close to the oil filter mine didn't have a cover. This appears to have resolved my issue. Many thanks to Dewayne. Lower is very easy to access on the SE (btw reverse had quit too) the next morning after it set reverse worked and I drove it to the ford dealer to get the part and back to my hotel to replace so if you have similar issue I can confirm this helped me out tons.

This is some really valuable information, I had the same issue with my 2016 fiesta with the same powershift transmission as inbthe focus, the dealership wanted to charge me for dropping of the entire transmission to replace actuator B but luckily I had my warranty extended so the warranty guys proved ford wrong that the actuator is sitting at the bottom of the transmission and it is a 10 minutes job to do. New actuator B has been fitted and no gear slipping anymore,.. actuator A has not failed so no need to replace it. This ford powershift transmission is really full of issues and I wouldn't advise anyone to buy any ford car with it.

If you're having transmission work done on these cars I have a 2012 Focus, (that was the 1st yr of this dual clutch type trans. and I think ford used them tranny' s up to 2019 or 20) definitely have them change the rear engine seal and front transmission seal while they can, these seals leak after a while and the oil gets into the clutch disc's and you start getting a shimmering feels like your trans is going out (you have to tell the underwriters, to get it in writing, that you want the seals changed ,very important you may be glad you did)!

Love this little car bc the gas mileage right now can not be beat! Cheers to u for figuring out the do it yourself way. I'm tempted to show the mechanic your video but but don't wanna step on toes either. Wish my luck bc this little single woman with a lot of responsibility sure needs it and I'm not loaded with a bunch of money to spend on a trannie replacement. I have not read all the 500+ comments but there is more to it than just those motors. For less than 100 bucks this is worth a shot for a DIY'er. Not to defend the dealer, but they are following a service procedure put out by ford. There is 1 fork inside the transmission above each of those motors that they must replace with the motor. That's where the transmission removal comes in. Check out Fordtechmakuloco here on KZfaq. He did a video of tearing down one of these clutch assemblies back in 2014. Very informative video.

Test your actuators before replacing them and test the clutch forks that the actuators operate. - you will need a spline tool or break apart one actuator that burnt out. It's quite possible that the Clutch Forks, that the actuators operate, need cleaning or replacement - which would require the transmission to be dropped and the clutch removed in order to take off the Clutch Forks.

I couldn’t pushed on the gas pedal and the car was going from parking to reverse to neutral. Someone pushed it into a parking lot for me and 5 minutes later the car started like it was nothing. I have a 2012 Ford Focus Titanium. It went to a Ford Dealership in March 2022 for transmission issues. It took them six weeks to get my car in and worked on. They replaced the actuators first and that didnt fix it so they replaced the clutch. $2800 all together for this work. I picked it up and it still wasn't shifting right so I drove it right back. They then replaced the TCM after it being on backorder for months. The dealership replaced the TCM free of charge, but the car still does not shift. We have since then picked it up and its sitting in our driveway. They wanted an additional $2500 just to tear the transmission before they could event tell me what needed to be replaced. I am hoping to clean up the grout and see if that helps.

I have. 2018 and have replaced both actuators. Mine after replacing the upper one still wouldn't shift right and would come out of gear on a slight up hill slope then the hot transmission light would come on after waiting the required 5 min you have to turn the key to the on position there is a series on clicks and sounds like gears resetting then it will start. It sat for 4 days and when I got in it low and behold it drove perfect check engine light went off shifted great no more hot transmission light perfect. A month later it starts the same bullshit again only worse I can only drive maybe 2-3 miles and the hot transmission light comes on and the transmission goes into neutral after you let "cool" off for 20-30 min ( if you try to drive it after 5 min the light comes right back on) you can go another 2-3 miles shorter if you have any kind of slope to go up. Finally made it to my daughters house it has sat there ever sense. It has 145,000 on it and if its the TCM well they are on back order for 8 months. I've been told by a ford mechanic to sale it trade it set it on fire or drive it in to a lake. I still owe about $5500 on it.I HATE this car

Yeah, it still randomly shudders a little from time to time. It might go two or three days without doing it, and then out of the blue it will shudder on takeoff or during a slow-and-go. This usually happens when I have been driving on the highway, then slow down onto a side road with or without coming to a stop. What it feels like, in my opinion, is that the transmission is not shifting all they way down into first gear, so the shuddering is due to it being in too high of a gear for the speed of the vehicle, kind of like on a manual transmission when you are trying to go from a complete stop, but you are starting in second or third gear. I own a 2016 Escape and have had zero issues from it. I also have a 2010 F-150 King Ranch that had the transmission replaced last summer due to similar issues. It's discouraging for me as someone who has owned Fords all his life.

@@DewayneGore that does sound about right with the whole too high gear thing. I have EXACTLY the same story you have. Rita Ford Dealer (in Texas) tries to rip me off of 2600 to fix it. so I found only those 2 clutch actuators fail. and I put in new ones top and bottom, but still feels slipping. so has to do something with the clutch? and I noticed it slip out of gear and re-engage a couple of times. so I know my TCM is pretty much dying. I bought a car at 95,000 and 6-8 months later doing the same problem as you said at 118,000 miles. so I'm not sure it's TCM or a new clutch? because the clutch has to be replaced every 60-80 k miles. :( so my OBDII coded P07A3 has something to do with TCM, P2872 Clutch A Stuck Engage, P286F Clutch A Disengagement Time performance/too slow. so something causes clutch slipping. any idea ? let me know !

They wanted to charge me $800 to replace motor mount on my focus. I did myself. Paid 50 for part and literally 5 min to swap out.

It doesn't take long, especially once you know what and where it is.

Thank you very much Dewayne, now I confirm that i was taking my 2013 focus titanium to a band of idiots, that’s exactly what they are in Ford, they never find the real issues, consequently they make you waste your time and money by changing the wrong parts 😑

My 2016 Ford Focus titanium with only 16k miles on it, it’s doing crazy stuff when I drive it, and sometimes don’t shift at all. Do you think that would help?

It's hard to say, it could be the actuator (this video), the dual clutch, or the Transmission Control Module.

My 2013 Ford Focus one day wouldn't want to shift anymore. Got it diagnosed at a certified Ford dealer and they told me it was the clutch fork actuators, which are NOT under the extended warranty even though they're literally transmission components. Feel like Ford just didn't give a shit about the problem and putting the bill on consumers helps their deep pockets
