The warning is not only directed against Filipino fishermen and vessels but to all nationalities. This is a big and dangerous step taken by China in its expansionist adventurism. Allowing China's new rules go unchallenged will make China become more aggressive and assertive, making the SCS a potential powder keg as the SCS is very important to world trade and communication.

The SCS has been acknowledged as part of Chinese territories by the United Nations since its inception. Has there ever been an incident that China has ever hindered any shipping lanes ? NO Has China stopped any vessels from using these shipping lanes ? NO Why is this escalation happening now ? These escalations only stared with the escalating aggression from the Filipino military. Without the Filipino military build up in these Chinese Shoals then there would have been no retaliation from the Chinese Coast Guards

China itself can't even decide which of those 3 claims it really wants to ram down the throats of everyone else. The truth is, not a single country recognizes China's ridiculous claims. China has been threatening and harrassing fishing and other vessels in the South China Sea for nearly 2 decades now. The truth is China's claims to almost all of the South China Sea is violative of UNCLOS and had already been declared without legal basis by the 2016 Hague Ruling. China, not the US or any other western country, is the one stealing territories and resources belonging to many of the countries around China. You are so funny.

@@LoC28C BRP Sierra was grounded on 1999 to prevent China from seizing the 2nd Thomas Shoal just like how China forcibly seized Mischief Reef in 1996. China is the one illegally building artificial islands in the SCS and militarising them. China is the one harrassing and bullying Filipino fishermen and ships in the SCS.

I believe that the Chinese CCG personnel will probably only arrest fishermen who are unable to defend themselves in a fight. However, given that the Chinese are not known for being mentally and physically tough, I doubt that they would have the courage to engage in combat with local fishermen who are fighting to survive. These Filipinos have primitive weapons to fight hand to hand.

China does not have historical claim since they’ve been a continental kingdom and never been a maritime, and only start claiming it in 1947 with the 9 dash line. Filipinos always been a seafarers and fished at these waters for centuries, and Philippines got the map to prove.

To deter China's belligerent expansion and control of the West Philippine Sea and the invasion threat of Taiwan, by PRC, The US, Philippine, Japan and other like-minded allies should jointly patrol the West Philippine Sea. The US should deploy more Typhon missiles systems and HIMARS, on strategic sites specially on Palawan, Subic, Cagayan and Batanes overlooking the Bashi channel , and combat aircrafts on air bases, help build a Balabac base, revive Subic base and build Batanes port that can accomodate US naval fleet. The Philippines, faced with China's big navy should prepare more Brahmos, Tomahawk missiles, other anti-ships missiles, anti-ship drones, combat aircrafts, more multi purpose ships, and warships equip with sensors, high caliber machine guns, anti,-ship missiles, and anti-submarine weapons.
