Philips Hue has been around since 2012, and unfortunately, they are the only brand that makes recessed Downlights that work with HomeKit.
Philips Hue is know for good quality bulbs, but I think Yeelight is the best smart bulb. Yeelight works with HomeKit (with firmware update), Amazon Assistant, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and more. It cost $30 and does NOT require a HUB, unlike Philips Hue, which cost an EXTRA $60 just for the ability to control the bulbs remotely.
The Philips Hue recessed Downlights come in various sizes and they offer a white ambiance and white and color ambience. I chose the 5/6 inch and color ambiance because I really like the colors.
With the Philips Hue app, you can easily control the power, brightness, and color of the bulbs.

As a ex-yeelight user, I can totally tell you, once you have more than ten yeelight product, your WiFi will be totally fuck up. Even I have a mesh network. Since yeelight support only 802.11n, which not support mesh, TWT. So there is definitely a point to use hue

It would be interesting to see how the Yeelight bulbs compared if you put them in the cans. You can also get covers to make them look nice. While Hue certainly is more, it is the all in one lighting system. Maybe there are motion sensor and buttons that Yeelight has that I am just not aware of.

The Yeelight bulbs tend to stick out more since they are bigger in size but that is very interesting, I didn't know you can buy can covers, I might have to check that out. I agree, Hue does have more products which is a huge plus for them. It makes it easier to have everything by one brand. Thank you for watching!

I feel like this is similar to getting mad that you have to wear shoes to go into a store. Yeah, you could just go in… but they require you to wear shoes. Good news is, once you buy the shoes (hub) you never have to buy them again. That hub makes everything HUE can do so much better than the rest, and that’s even more true today than years ago. My man even clearly is excited halfway through the video, after he just got done saying how much he hates it. LOL.

The overhead lights are great, just don’t like using a hub that has no other function besides remote access and smart platform control. Whereas other hubs like Aqara have practical uses like a useable security system. Not a fan of other Philips hue products due to lack of features but it personal preference at the end of the day. This video shares my thoughts for what it’s worth :)

You can do flow with phillips, it is just in the hue labs area! You can do candlelight and thunderstorms too!

The new Hue bulbs, including the ones you installed, absolutely do not require a hub. The hub just adds extra capabilities, and the ability to run more than 10 in a house without flooding your wifi.

I Think you are right as just a smart Light its too expensive ... But imo hue Sync is the main Selling Point .... To Sync it with your home Cinema and or pc , that makes it Really impressive, just bought the Bridge und Two bulbs for 70 bucks, as a Starter at black friday and Next Year on black friday i will Buy the the new Gradient Light Strip and or maybe Sync Box for Really impressive ambilight Upgrade for any tv .... That makes it the Best smart Light Solution for home Cinema and Entertainment Rooms ... But i dont actually have researched the competition .... So im maybe wrong

From my personal experience, these are still worth it. i recently replaced nearly all my smart bulbs in my home with philips hue.

I cant find the European voltage version?! 😑 all the recessed downlight in the 5/6 inch and 4 inch are 120v will not work in Dubai. Cant find any international versions….

If you have smart lights without a hub you are going to have a bad time. If you have more than a few lights everything will start messing up. The Hue Hub might be expensive but it is worth it if you actually want a “Smart” home, if you want to have a reliable connection to your smart devices it is necessary, plus the out of home control is huge, is your house even smart if you can’t control it while you are away? No you just have really expensive light switches at that point.

Good points. I haven’t issues with my LIFX bulbs I will say with about 10 bulbs. Plus I like the LIFX app better and the Philips app has always given me issues but to each their own. Thanks for watching! 😊

@@AdamsTechLife since LIFX is on life support financially, HUE actually is probably the best bet for downlighting .. and with starter packs the price difference between HUE and LIFX is minimal

I think Phillips hue is better. The ye-light you cannot find in stores such as Best buy and home Depot Philips hue can be found anywhere local at a store. I do not trust buying online Plus Wi-Fi bulbs have connectivity issues such as going offline?
