Photography Critique 02 - 3 Photographers Critiqued

In this episode I go through the work of three photographers. From this point forward I will be doing one photographer per video. 30 minutes is just a tad long for one critique video. If you would like your work critiqued please leave it in the comments below. I can’t get to them all but I’m trying to knock out a few per week!

wow! thank you so much! I got a text on IG from someone, that he liked your critique of my website and I was so nervous to watch it ^^ thank you so much for your kind words and tipps. you are very right. I will seek out more input from other professionals and work on the "about" page. and translate it into English ;) I'm still in the beginning of my carrier as a photographer and struggle to look at my work objectively. There is always so much self-doubt and I don't know where to place my work and skill. but your words and how you saw my work really helped. Thank you!

Oh dear lord in heaven, i didn't know this critique thing was for pros only, now i know my photos are horrendous, all their photos are incredibly good, now i know for sure I'm no good, but there's still hope i may get better in the next life or the following.

Thanks for doing another one. Amazing last photographer! As a text guy (and German native speaker) I'd recommend a few changes to the about page text, such as getting rid of the double "Fokus" and revising some clunky sentences ("Fasziniert von..."). Also, there are some comma issues. And I'd write something like this in first person, not in third person, but that's a matter of taste I guess.

Sometimes good framing is harder than shooting and/or editing. When not sure, leave it for a while, come back later and have a fresh look at it. Your comments make more sense than all the other channels together ;-) ! Great video Zack , glad you are back, and thanks again for sharing !

Hi Zack, I very much enjoy your videos and I always learn from photo critiques. I try to apply your advice to my photography. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. I would just recommend that you have the TV in the background set one image or have it change only when you are not on camera. It is very distracting to me. Every time the image changes I look away from you. But then I always lose consideration whenever I see an shiny object or a squirrel. Enjoy the box wine!

Hey Zack, remember when you said what are these youtube cards do. This is the perfect video to do that, as you can put that card up to refer to your Rules of Critique Video. Oh and I realized now that you are mostly critiquing photography websites. Please disregard my submission of my Instagram as it is not on par with the pro's that you are critiquing. I guess I just wanted you to critique my composition skills and the feel of my street photography work. Maybe it's time for me to put my work into a website format even if it is only a hobby. Still really love how you breakdown and critique each work, it helps me a lot too. Thanks man!

I think Elisabeth needs an SSL certificate for her website, meaning her web address needs to be "https", not "http", meaning Safari, Chrome and most browsers are going to show her site as "not secure" and that translate into bad website ranking and problems with Google indexing. My two cents.

Hi Zack, thank you for making videos and for the honesty and authenticity that you bring with each one. Your past critiques have been of photographers that are already good professional photographers. But what about those that have not reached that level yet, that don’t have the consistency or the knowledge just yet? I suffer from a lack of focus and a lot of self doubt, so it feels daunting that I will ever get to the levels of the photographers that you have featured. Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Thanks again.

Great input Zack. I'm surprised, not really though, that people need told to check the critique rules video. yeah work is personal, I do get that but for the love of........grow a set. If you can't take an experienced and knowledgeable shorter version of Gandalf guiding you then don't take up the quest...... "oh Alfie, I love you but..."fades away and cut!!! "where was I....? Alfie got iiinnnto trouble :-)))

I’ve thought about that but depending on the time of day and how the light is in the room, all those different angles will be different shades and still be giving me the same fit.

I am telling you, that Apple pencil replaced the Ikea stick! :-) On the "Crop or Crap?" video you "ding" the reflector while talking and waving and now you did the same to the glass. :-) Great seeing these critiques man! I follow along and pause the video along the way to go check out the sites.

Luis might not need more gear, but he really needs a new website/host. That 'Myname.iso100mm.blah blah blah' might as well be Tuco_Benedicto_Pacífico_Juan_Maria_Ramirez_known_as_the_Rat.blogspot... Only other shutterbugs will get the 'iso100mm' reference. No one is going to look at your website if they can't remember it and they're really not going to stand around while you spell it out for them. He also needs to add his location. By going with LuisGaio-com, LuisGaioPhoto-com, LuisGaioPhotographer-com, LuisGaioPortraits-com or any of a thousand other iterations(plus including his location on his site) will make him easy to find on Google by simply knowing his name.

It's been good seeing you make videos again. I've always appreciated your honesty and how you manage to do so without being condescending. That's something not a lot of people can do.
