My grandpa had Jerry on 8 track tape and every Sunday he’d drive us out to his farm, and we loved these tunes as we drove down the road. Amos Moses, anyone? My next load of concrete is for Mr. Reed! Thank you for posting this video.

Jerry Reed was never a celebrity. He was just an extremely talented humble country guy. One of my favorite stories about Jerry is when Elvis wanted to cover Guitar Man no one else could get the guitar right so they were trying to call Jerry down to the studio to play the part. No one could find him all day cause he was fishing.

And Col Parker tried to get Jerry to sign away half his rights to the song and Reed was willing to walk out of the studio over it. No one in Nashville had stood up to Elvis and Parker before that.

Jerry Reed was an outstanding guitar player. He wrote Guitar Man and Elvis Presley liked it so much he recorded it. When his band couldn't get the feeling right he said " That's it! Get me Jerry Reed on the phone, NOW! Then he asked Jerry to come down and help out with the guitar part and Jerry did. Wow! A guest guitarist for Elvis Presley on a song that he wrote! How many people can say that? Incredible!!

Col Parker demanded the find Reed to play on that song. It took quite a while. He was out fishing on the Cumberland River. He came to the studio in his fishing clothes, Elvis had always demanded the players dress up in the studio, but not Jerry. He borrowed a guitar, tuned it how he wanted it and laid down the track like Elvis wanted. Col Parker also tried to get Jerry to give him 75% of the publishing rights to the song, apparentlythat was a standard practice of his if you wanted Elvis to record your song. Jerry refused. Told him, it's MY song, I keep the publishing. Use it or don't. Elvis loved the song so Jerry kept the publishing rights and it became a number one hit for Elvis. It's said this was the only time Col Parker didn't get the rights to a song he wanted. For those who don't know, Col Tom Parker was Elvis' manager. He ruled with an iron fist.

He smiled, shook my hand, cordially greeted my wife, then reached out and touched her belly and said “take good care of this youngan.. it will be special” .. several years later, i explained to my daughter who Jerry Reed was during a scooby doo episode. I always hoped they'd invent a time machine before I got old, but I guess KZfaq is as close as we're gonna get. Just watching this took me back to those times, carefree summer nights, keg parties out in the boonies, fast cars, drive-in theaters, and (ugh) the national 55 mph speed limit. Well back to reality, thanks for the memories Jerry.

Besides being great song from an epic film, there is some serious musicianship going on here. No autotune or canned backing tracks, just a collection of first rate musicians that are tighter than a drum.
