Serious hat now: Matt Christman and Chris Wade should do another miniseries a la Hell of Presidents and Hell on Earth, only this time tracing the entire history of the Palestine Conflict, hitting all the pivotal events: the weird life of Theodore Herzl and the 1st Zionist Congress, the fall of the Ottomans during Ww1 and the Balfour Declaration, the Arab Revolt (one of the most heavy handed British colonialist interventions in history), the White Paper, the Irgun/Haganah insurgency, the closing off of western countries to Jewish refugees during the Holocaust, the Nakba of 1948, the Suez Crisis, the 68 war, 72 War, and, most crucially, the Lebanese Civil War, followed closely by the 1st Intifada and then the second intifada, the growth of the settler movement, and so on. Matt and Wade do an AMAZING job; they bring heart, humanity, and acerbic wit to their podcasts.

They were planning a series on the Spanish Civil War and released one or two episodes of that. Matt's still recovering from complications from his BBL surgery but a Palestine series after he's well and they finish the Spanish Civil War series would be great.

Remember when pretty much every military advisor and analyst in the region said the same thing at that time (for good reason, the invasion only galvanized fence sitters in the region to join NATO because it proved that Russia was less powerful in land war than assumed and couldn't perform a non-nuclear decapitation strike, and more unpredictable than assumed thus somewhat justifying the protection racket that is NATO)? Derek Davison seems totally clueless about Russia and the Ukraine war. The whole idea that Putin would accept some kind of freezing of the conflict at current lines makes no sense at all. The Russians have been very clear about this: this war will be fought until total victory over Ukraine, until the total destruction of the Ukrainian state, until Ukraine’s unconditional surrender and so on. That is the position of Russia today. The whole negotiations train went a long time ago. The Russians were very accommodating early on in the war, but not any longer. They no longer trust the West one single iota.
