Great ideas, Chris! Nice and stable so the pigs don't mess them up. Cool idea for the chutes as well. Rob

@@HomesteadingtheHardWay I think you have a lot of good info that you can put into that topic - info that many folks could really learn from. Probably ruffle some feathers here & there, but sometimes feathers need to be ruffled. I look forward to it.

Hey Chris! Just curious. How wide is the aisle between the pens where you move the pigs to the loading shute?
@HomesteadingtheHardWay2 жыл бұрын
4 ft in the walk ways and 3 ft going into the ramp to the trailer

Must have missed where you've talked about pig waterers. So why not use a pig nipple on a barrel? Or a pig nipple screwed to a 4x4? That what i was going to use instead of rubber bowls.
@HomesteadingtheHardWay4 жыл бұрын
Missed this sorry , they break them off even if you put them through a post and use metal pipe and they stay frozen in the winter . Nipple waterers are made for inside a building outside waterers are a metal bowl with a paddle at the front but they stay broken too , we used them for decades . I'd rather just water them twice a day than come home dead tired and have to fix what they broke and deal with flooded pens
@Bigjcomeon4 жыл бұрын
@@HomesteadingtheHardWay now what if I were to raise only feeder pigs 225 250. And 6 7 months they are gone. At that size do they still break them?
@HomesteadingtheHardWay4 жыл бұрын
@@Bigjcomeon not as bad but yes occasionally after they get 200lbs or so , best answer I found was to use all metal pipe through an 8 by 8 and a valve that would stop the water if the flow got high ( sorry I forget what they're called ) but they still froze or got broken enough I just gave up honestly and went back to troughs . They work good for little pigs try them you might have better luck
@turbowarp3 жыл бұрын
How do you block them in the trailer while you move the trailer to shut the door?
@HomesteadingtheHardWay3 жыл бұрын
You don't have to move the trailer to shut the door , most hog trailers have sliding doors but if you had to a cutting board would work
@turbowarp3 жыл бұрын
I just have a broken down more of a horse trailer. It don't have slider doors. Maybe I can get some sliders fabbed up, that can swung out of the way when trailer used for other things. Thanks!
@HomesteadingtheHardWay3 жыл бұрын
@@turbowarp you can I've built a couple , make a sliding door in the lift up or swinging door . Or just put a divider that you can swing behind them
