Pilbara Wandering. Running Waters and WW2 Secrets

In this third part of our Pilbara Wandering 4x4 Adventure, we're heading over to a secluded campsite at Running Waters. A pool fed year round by a thermal spring. There's old mining history to be explored. Gem fossicking at Nullagine, one of the most gemstone rich areas in the world; and then some WW2 history in outback australia. The Corunna Downs airbase.

Went to Corunna downs in the early 90s flew in looked around and was lucky to find a 50cal shell.

Visited and camped out there about 12yrs ago. Was awesome to explore the revetments and the old hospital site. The runways back then weren't in very bad condition a little weed whacking and they could be reused. Great video.

Fantastic video fellas :) Loved the history lesson and exploring around the old airbase. I was laughing my guts out when you guys were tasting the "Stew" that Alex had made LOL :p Oh..... and my guess for what's in the tin is Grease (or Paint)..... Cheers, Don (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)

running waters was bit low been there absolute awesome place I slept in a swag and during the night a dingo was checking me out noticed the tracks in the morning next to the swag and I heard that they drained the spring couple of years ago (mine use) when i went there in 2005 it was crystal clear could see one end to the other under water and it had multiple small water falls oh and desert queen baths is f f f f f f f f freezing 430 pm around July it was 25 Celsius and took a bath there I was red raw that cold when i got out

Desert queen baths it reminded me of that line from titanic "like 1000 knives stabbing all over your body" especially when it's a 40 degree day 😂 running waters is amazing hey. I've been back a few times

@@Alex.G lol i haven't been back there to Christmas creek/Rudall river lucky duck going back to running waters I lost my debit card somewhere between Rudall river and desert queens bath and Murray lost his bow shackle on one of the steep river crossings

How long is the road into running water? How long did it take you to cover roughly?

I don't remember too well how long it took us but it's under 150km from Nullagine

ive been to running waters(2005) and it was completely crystal clear could see other end under water and a had a visit during the night by a dingo while sleeping

Good bit of history added in there, very interesting, love old stuff. I’m glad my first time making a stew in the camp oven with no recipe didn’t turn out anywhere near that bad (OTT up at CY at Canal Creek) & was about the best feed I’ve ever made out camping, was so tasty! Curious to know what’s in the tin, that’s if it’s even identifiable after all this time.

Great visuals Alex and crew, some of your best work perhaps? And the subject matter stories were fascinating also. The close up shots of the wheels doing the rocks was good viewing.

Intents he ran it as a cattle station his brother had split rock and Pilga stn before he owned it the church group had it they used to breed Arab horses on it

It's brilliant to see a people driving 4wds through the bush with a bit of care rather than belting through it at high speed causing damage to the bush and the vehicles.

It's great to see. I suppose there is challenge in getting down a severely muddy roads and through bog holes, but if we keep damaging areas through thoughtless behaviour we are just going to keep getting locked out of areas.
