Flying to the Italian Coast 🇮🇹 - Long Way South E02

Күн бұрынAfter a tour of the Rotax Factory (seperate video coming..) we depart Austria and head to the south coast of Italy. We fly over the Alps into Slovenia and Croatia and cross the Adriatic sea towards Italy. Just before sunset we land in the small coastal town of Scalea and are greeted by a pack of Dogs!

I really enjoyed watching you flying over Alps, Slovenia and Croatia. My goal is to fly regularly from Ireland to Serbia in a small airplane. I have only started taking lessons for my PPL(A) licence. You can imagine the insights I got from this. The ATC communication, fuel stop suggestion etc. Thank you for sharing these videos along your journey.

Hello, just wanted to say that this is the first video of yours I have seen and I am hooked already. --- I worked as a close protection officer (bodyguard) and had hopes of 1 day taking lessons and seeing we’re it goes but then got I’ll and now wheelchair bound, so life sometimes takes you in a new direction. --- That being said, this for me is the next best thing quite frankly. Not only is the plane beautiful, but I personally found this video educational, friendly, fun. --- I’m assuming (and I could be wrong) but I’m assuming the gentleman isn’t an actual pilot? If he isn’t, then I must say, his radio skills and flight planning is sensational!. --- Usually when pilots say they’re going to record it’s normal just of the take off and landing. However with yourselves, it’s just a full and broad look into both of you as people which I believe is the thing that actually hooks most people because not only are we seeing beautiful pictures, landscapes ect but we are seeing both yourself and the gentleman as actual people… and for me it’s a 50/50. A 50% mix of the fact it’s plane related and 50% mix of you both as individuals. --- Apologies for the long message, but thank you. Your now my go to channel for relaxation mode.

Just one little advise, on Rotax engine on the pre flight when turning over the prop don't stand infront of the prop, stand behind it and turn it over. In case the magnetos for some reason stayed on. Happy flights!

Flying from Italy we did a right wing low flying tour all the was around the Island of Crete in a C-130 several years ago and then spent the night there ..... Awesome place !

Hi Rosita, greetings from Argentina. I really enjoy all your trips, your filming and editing as well as the flight it self. If I may, I´d like to do a small suggestion: when posible, can you explain how the procedures are when you cross from one country border to another in-flight, despit the previous flight plan? Are there some specific radio calls you have to follow? I think that would be interesting, specially considering all those countries you have to land on during the trip. @@PilotBambi Thank you! One question if you don't mind: do/did you have to pay any overflight fees for countries you cross on this whole journey? I know ICAO recommends for aircraft < 2t MTOM to be exempt from ANSP fees, but some countries still decide to charge (e.g. Germany for certain approach sectors). I really wonder what the situation in Africa is like

For Scalea no booking of a hotel is necessary. Mirko at the airport helps you with everything... Hotel... Transfer... Tips for restaurant. Never had such a beautiful experience at any airport.

Hi Rosita! Fellow aviator here. Today I have a boring old job flying the 747 so my adventure days are pretty much over. For now at least, because the bush is always calling. Anyway, I spent 2 years in Namibia flying the 210 and have done a couple of impressive ferries. If you ever need any help or advice I woild be glad to help. Really enjoy watching your energetic videos and makes me very jealous of your adventures. Keep them coming. I’m still flying as instructor at EBUL and soon hopefully drop pilot in the Caravan. Maybe we can can create some content together this summer or perhaps you can join one of our 747 flights to JNB or NBO in 2023. Would be great to get in touch. For now though focus on the miles ahead, keep preparing well and I look forward to the rest of the series. Can you also please make a video on the real world performance of the Slig 4 high wing during your trip aimed at buyers and pilots? The numbers look quite impressive. Hou je goed!

Haha that would be a dream! But I'm more into the scrambler to be honest. We're looking into some exciting projects with them for next year, fingers crossed!

Could you do a special session on the flight planning that went into this. You mentioned a number of factors such as availability of customs, ground handling costs, fuel costs, ForeFlight recommendations, etc. I believe some ground handlers charge 500 euros for a simple technical stop...are you paying anything near that?

Nice flight, you have chosen the good direction. But a silly question: does the hi wing also have a pee - hole as the one you had in Tanzania, or was that a customer modification?? Fly safe, 4hours would be safe concerning the pee-hole. 🤣🤣😎🇫🇷

Thank you! I'm glad you mentioned the dog, it was indeed very skinny, but is now in good hands! The friendly airport staff found the sweet, dying dog lying in a ditch a week prior, and have now adopted it. He's skinny, but definitely recovering!

Thank you!! We need to "burp" the engine before flight in order to get the oil back into the tank, so that we get a more accurate reading of the oil level

I just bought a microlight and my dream is to start flying all over and just never stop exploring. Best advice from you who has done the most. Just basic mistakes I could miss or advice what you missed the most or your biggest mistake? Any help will be a bonus even if it is only a good luck!!😁

I was also very sad to see the dog so skinny, but we were told by the airport staff that they found him along the road in a ditch a week prior, and they've been taking good care of him. Apparenlty he was even skinnier!! :( But he's in good hands now!

very cool video! Let me ask a question...at 4:30 we can see that the left door has a latch upward and the right door is pointing down...is that a latch that or what does that do? I was born and raised in Italy and moved overseas to Asia first then the USA and got my Pilot license in the States...never had the pleasure to fly GA in Italy/EU...on my bucket list!

Hi Luca, Awesome to hear that you're flying too! You'll have to make a plan to fly in Europe some time soon; it is truly breath taking! And good question: you'll see that the latch on Maurits' door is pointing down, which means it isn't latched correctly (should be facing up). This plane is the first ever HW (and the factory prototype!!), and it's been flying non stop around the world for a few months, so a few things may be a bit different. The latch is a bit worn, but that's part of the deal when you fly a prototype. These trips are used to see what improvements can be made on the newly built high wings :) good eye!!

@@PilotBambi makes sense...I know that Sling is a great manufacturer...I would like to see them to be FAA certified eventually...I have been in aviation for long time not only flying airplanes but also transporting them all around the World...used to ship Tecnam airplanes from Italy all over the USA 2 for each 40'Ocean container...from the factory to the dealerships...Rotax are good engines...but even when new they can have hiccups...remember one brand new one on a ferry flight to the dealership quitting 3 times in 5 minutes and eventually found a place to put it down safely....Best wishes clear skies and tailwinds to you both!
