My disability is still being investigated for a diagnosis but from what we can see it's rare and its a genetic problem so my family have it ( only the girls). I try not to use my wheelchair to much because as i get older ill get worse and i want to use all the time i can, though sometimes i need the wheelchair though i feel scared in it. But thank you for being that person to look up to!

Miss JB I don’t know if it could help as there are loads of things I don’t know about you : ) but if you are anxious just about being outside in your chair would it help to start small and build up to bigger things? I sort of mean, how about getting a potted outdoor plant and every day go out to check on it and give it a little water and talk to it and just enjoy being outside for a few minutes every day, and when that feels comfortable go out of the garden and maybe go around the block of where you live (...again assuming that you don’t live in a massive castle or on a giant hill!), and just take your time to build up your confidence slowly. If it’s because, like me you tend to fall or faint easily but don’t want anyone passing by to always call for an ambulance, only to recover as the ambulance gets there and the paramedics say , “not you again!” - you can get ‘alert’ labels or even jewellery that has basic information about your condition, for example, the inside of my bag says [***FAINTING AND FALLING IS COMMON FOR ME*** ~ ***ONLY CALL FOR HELP IF I AM INJURED***] in really big letters!!! You can get bracelets and necklaces stamped or engraved with anything you like, (...from the place that mends shoes in the UK!), and even ‘SOS’ jewellery that has a paper insert with lots of information about you in it, but these are quite expensive. If you DM me I’m happy to chat or try to help :) I’ve been completely wheelchair dependent for six years, but have a condition that I’ve had all my life. - Billie

billieblue Sheepie thanks for the advise my condition is collagen 6 v realeted distrophy ( excuse spelling) its fairly rare and is a genetic condition. It means i have on and off days like some days ill be in pain and walk slow or some days ill be in a small amount of pain but walk perfectly ( hiding the pain) and other days i becone paralysed. It makes me anxious because people will day im not actually disabled or that im a lier and people used to hit me and beat me because of that I've becone scared over time. I have a group of friends now that im comftable with so that helps and i have a special doctor recommended counsellor which also helps me relax. But thank u for the advise x

Yesss I have a buggy cup holder on my Wheely walker and it's excellent

Welcome to the cool rollers, we only accept those with ultimate pimped out modes of transport! The only issue I have had since writing this comment with my cup holder is that I need a second for the pushing slave! As I end up getting sloshed over as he high speeds it with his drink safe and sound! That said I have since invested in a can saver, that seals my drink and prevents the slave covering me in it whilst he pretends he is driving a Grand Prix car around the streets of London! I was trying to think if there was anything else from my walker days that may be of use to you, other than the obligatory go faster stripes and spike to move the road blockers out of the way. The one thing I found the most helpful was one of those small body bags with several pockets and I made sure to always have stashed in it things I would need if I had a fall etc, so extra pills, painkillers, plasters, phone, a tiny note pad and pen and a bit of cash and a couple hard boiled sweets. I always have a pad and pen for writing numbers if I needed help that sort of thing. I also go now are without hand wipes or baby wipes, just a couple in a ziplock bag and hand sanitiser on a key ring as my hands were forever getting grubby and getting them clean could be a nightmare in some places. I live in the uk so that bag also has my taxi card and taxi money and the universal disabled toilet key. To secure said bag to make it easy to detach I used two Velcro cable ties (zip ties would also work but choose thick ones) that held two d clips on the desired rung and chose a bag that had loops connecting the bag to the handle, which clipped onto the d clips perfectly. I have updated this bag to suit my wheelchair needs so it has additions like a tool kit for emergency maintenance for example oh and a spare set of keys which has been helpful several times on getting locked out. My other suggestion would be for anyone who is a bit more vulnerable and that is to carry one of those really loud rape alarms, whilst handy if attacked they also work really well if you have a fall as the noise will raise attention to you. I do not know if any of this is of any use to your already trendy set up but just in case it is or it might inspire a different addition that suits your own needs Take good care of you, watch out for speed cameras as you zip along with drink secured! I am a polio survivor. And I have been dealing with mobility and issue my entire life. I need another w-chair, and I will plan to accessorize it so I won't keep dropping things. Every single dad-gum day. Don't despair over w/chair dirt. Mine needs a good power-washing.

Not something I can do at the moment, as I need a rucksack on the back of my chair to act as a changing bag. But when my little one is bigger and I don't need to carry round a rucksack, I'll add some flowers. Xx

Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard if only it was carbon fibre... (I’ve been told it would be hard to repair carbon fibre if it breaks - and almost everything on my wheelchair has had to be repaired - ...I like going fast!)

I only found out recently that carbon fiber is a material that can be used for wheelchair frames, but since having a rather negative experience with carbon fiber trekking poles (that were a big name brand, no less, so supposedly top quality) - one just up and snapped on me in the middle of crossing a river while backpacking, and I had to pull more than one splinter out of my hand - I've decided that for me personally, I could never have a w/c frame made with it because it honestly just isn't very strong, and gets brittle over time from all the stress and vibration, like aluminum. I'm hoping to get a titanium frame for my very first custom this summer - it's lighter than aluminum, but also way stronger and dampens the vibrations a bit.

I like that anyone can get one. No abled person who just needs a piss is gonna go to the hassle of ordering a RADAR key online, but you can bet there's plenty of disabled ppl out there sighing w relief that they didn't need to prove their disability and jump through more of the many hoops that life as a disabled person demands.

Just search up Amazon for bicycle spoke covers! I got a pack for 75 for $15 which was more than enough for my chair and plenty of spares in case they get gross and need replacing.

Ah yes! ;) I had a really good anti sweat cushion on my old chair. it was really good. Ill see if i can find it and get the details on it. x I also have one that is like a honey comb inside. so it helps with air circulation. Not tried it though as its so hard. x

Its a good question, and something I think about all the time. When I put the bag on the back, I never have anything of value in it. If someone is pushing me Then I might. I always keep my valuables on my lap or in the "under carriage." :)

@@Wheelsnoheels I've also seen it recommended to use an under seat bag when traveling in places where there are pickpockets - basically impossible for someone to steal something out of it.

They are, However I have had the LV bag for Years and it was a gift. I also worked extremely hard to raise money for my chair. I was very fortunate to get help with paying for the cost. I have done a whole video raising awareness on the "true cost of being disabled." Its quite a good one. Please feel free to share it on your socials so we can raise awareness. :)
