As a computer and network technician, I can totally reassure you, that plugged in cables and connectors in fact do change locations over night without any kind of human interaction. Depending on where you live, it may either be faerie circles, leprechauns, energies from waterveins or just a disturbance of the force. It is simply a pain, to go through all the wiring, searching for what has been messed with, includung checking all the stuff that hasn't been messed with and to check if it really hasn't been messed with. Great diagnostic and I'm sure, this won't be the last electrical excorcism we have seen on this car :)

As a network engineer who dealt with system replacement and rebuilding unreliable rats-nest racks of servers slapped together by impatient Microsoft certified and college graduate "engineers" I can assure you that the better things are labelled and documented, and not touched by incompetents, the fewer the number of mis-connections are needed to be fixed by good technicians. Whatever was "saved" by having a doofus work on this VW, was lost on wasted owners time and Pine Hollow fixing what was screwed up.

@@psdaengr911 I guess you may have an issue with MCSE certified individuals. As a holder of such a certification, people always treat me the opposite of what I hoped in life. But hey, documentation and labelling goes along way for those coming in fresh/those with a poor old memory like mine.

I'm going with someone tried to install/fix the stereo, blew a fuse, got frustrated then began swapping fuses, forgot where they were and just left it. May not have been the owner. It also goes the other way. The information you impart may have nothing to do with the problem and lead the mechanic down the wrong path. EricO has had this many times.

I mean what could go wrong putting a 25amp in???? hopefully they have a fire extinguisher in the car and the source is hittable lol otherwise that will be a lovely scent of burnt toast in its future.

Also a problem added when the owner doesn't say all the story or know what the previous "technicians" did. Takes more time than normal to find all this messed things for sure. Interesting analytics again. Top job since you are no VAG specialist.... albeit I do not like the word EUROTRASH.... The typical story with these cars is, DO NOT mess with them if you have no clue... VW techs have some serious training plus need experience to fix these cars. Regular workshops can never fix them properly with regular tools... or should invest your kind of Sherlock Holmes diagnostics and spend the time to figure it out like you do... respect! Most dealers do not invest nor the time nor the training to properly educate their dinosaur technicians. A VW is for sure more complex than any US GM product but there is logic in the madness 🙂 PS... ALLDATA is nice but revisions are not always up to date or complete. I refer to the VAG databases, but I understand you cannot have all the subscriptions.
