How is the bulk inconsistent?

I have, but in my own mind, I still separate blends I consider "strong" from blends that are high in nicotine. Very subjective I know.

@elmer cook I think you mean VaPer, or Va/Per. It's a type of tobacco blend composed of Virginias and Perrique, hence the name VaPer.

@elmer cook He has stated that his everyday, meat and potatoes, favorite blend is Dunhill's (now Peterson's) Elizabethan Mixture.

I like to be hit with flavor but not pain lol

My thoughts are the same, some are harsh or rough around the edges. The base tobacco's don't blow me away personally, but I have had some aged stuff I would happily smoke again. Their tins have a habit of swelling and fermenting and turning into magic after 5-8 years.

The nicotine didn't seem strong to me, and I said so in the review, but I had a bowl the other day that made my head swim!

For whatever reason, it seems that they aren't profitable enough for their owner (British American Tobacco) to keep making them.

Thanks for the reply Bradley, that would make sense, though for the history of the brand, as well as certain honors as with MM965 which is in the hall of fame, would be a darn shame. I personally gladly pay another few dollars per tin depending on which blend we speak of or, a streamlined offering. Bottom line I don't want to loose Elizabethan either.

Heh I think it will be just as hard to find a Virginia that fits the bill, though I do like your thinking (had the same thought myself). Ye Olde Signe sprinkled with a nice blending Perique would likely work - but being another Dunhill blend that would defeat the purpose. :)

True. I smoke a couple of DIY blends but no VaPers so I have now lost my usefulness in this situation.

Yeah, as mentioned above, "Ye Olde Signe" is probably the closest blend I've found as far as the Virginias are concerned. I doubt I'll ever find a really close match to Elizabethan, but hopefully I'll find a worthy replacement with its own merits.

Pipes and Cigars, Match Elizabethan. Have you tried this? it's very good.

Perique overload?! Blasphemy there's never enough! Jk but seriously if you get some blending Virginia's from p&c just add 15% by weight some golden Virginia

Hey Bradley, Well, good news and bad news. Mostly bad, but first the good: P&C's "Match Elizabethan" tastes okay. The bad news: it tastes nothing, IMHO, like Elizabethan. I had this idea of sending you a side-by-side pic of real DE and the Match, '...to see if Bradley can tell the difference', until I poured them both out; I had laugh, and you would have, too. The Match is a long, chunky-looking cut, nothing I'd call "ribbon". The dark tobaccos, which I assume are Perique, look darker and more dense than in DE. What really threw me off was the taste; if you handed me a bowl of it and asked me what I thought it tasted like, the last thing I'd say would be Elizabethan. It's mild, honestly somewhat reminiscent of a very, very mild English blend. It's so opposite DE that I actually wonder if they packed the wrong blend. It's milder than the mild straight VA I smoke in the morning. So, unfortunately, the search continues. Oh, I picked up some Telegraph Hill so am looking forward to your review. Broken Pipe 86 great idea

A lot of people like the MATCH Elizabethan. I am not one of them. I think it is more like the original Elizabehan than the current Dunhill offering. Also, P&C won't ship to Washington, where our good friend Bradley resides.

Rick the Sick I really like that one too, but I find the added Dark Fired changes it to almost a different blend type.
