Nice review - I agree that this blend grows on you. I felt the same about C&D Haunted Bookshop, but after a tin of it, it was in my rotation.

I smoke a pack/a pack and half of cigarettes a day and I just smoked 2 bowls of this. Inhaling every puff, I can definitely feel the nicotine. When I do the same with Elizabethen I can feel the nic hit a little, but not this much. I'm going to have to say this is a extremely high nicotine content tobacco. The last time I felt this much nicotine from a pipe is when I smoked (inhaling) a bowl of Black Irish X rope. The throat hit is almost as strong as black Irish X rope too. I think I've found my new go to pipe tobacco.

Old Joe krantz and star of the East are my 2 favorite all day smokes.

I always get a burst of "Cinnamon Toast Crunch" cereal taste with this blend. Bizarre, but delightful!

As a replacement for Elyzabethan i could recommend to try Fire Storm.

I love the OJK, one of my absolute favorites. I tried to stock up with a pound order from P&C, but the turkeys sent me some mystery goopy maple syrup soaked stuff, right as OJK went back ordered. They say they're taking care of it so I'll leave it at that... effing P&C turkeys.

I had tried Crooner prior to this. Crooner is definitely a bit stronger in the taste and retrohale. Both great C&D blends.

I think when Burley ferments it produces that raisin chocolate smell. Dark Air Cured Burley is stacked in piles in barns and naturally takes on a spicy raisin note, not unlike Perique, which can also smell a bit like raisins. We often forget that Perique begins it's life as Burley, albeit a different strain than Kentucky Dark and White types.

Absolutely spot on with the review. The burley really does get me and I really just cant quite get there with burleys- but I keep on trying.

Great review , glad I came across your videos . I get the same tastes you do from this blend , I really like it . I is really helping me lay the cigarettes down ( almost 😁 ) . Definitely one to smoke slowly to appreciate all the flavors , something I am learning after smoking cigarettes for way too many years . I have watched all the reviews on Haunted Bookshop , including yours which was the best along with Hobbiton Piper . Even though it was John’s favorite tobacco , I don’t think it could replace OJK for me . I also like to alternate this with English blends . Thanks again Bernie

I appreciate your reviews. I like this blend however the first time i smoked i vomited because of the nicotine dosage . I want to ask anyone who reads my comment for more tobacco's like this with less nicotine . I do like the sour notes as you mentioned the perique in my opinion does not hurt this blend nor help it for my taste buds Any suggestions on something similar with less nicotine from C&D ?

Hi Bradley. Nice review. Off topic question, have you ever considered trying a Meerschaum pipe? Not so much a certain brand, but I am curious on what your opinion would be on smoking tobacco in a Meerschaum material, if there would be any advantages?

Had a bowl today... Old Joe Krantz is a nice kick in the pants.

I got a tin this afternoon. Having the first bowl now. My wife said the tin note was "old feet" :) She enjoys your videos and loves cracking open new tins. I agree with your opinion and review. I've been working on a tin on Haunted Bookshop, my first bowl with coffee in the morning. The next is usually Elizabethan Mixture. Haunted Bookshop kind of sets my pallet up and complements both. Keep up the great work.

I am not big on perique and I am not a nicotine tough guy. So, of course, I had to buy some OJK today. It's worth a shot.

Does anyone have a suggestion for something similar but a notch lower in nicotine ?

I'm sure you've already tried it but it you haven't I would recommend Bayou Morning. As a Va/Per fan you should like it. It has a good portion of Perique but nothing too heavy. It's also red Va. So as an Elizabethan Mixture man you might find it a nice companion to it. Take care

OJK is a favorite. I don't smoke it a lot, but when I want it, it hits the spot. And you are oh so correct, it is first and foremost a burley. The perique is a great addition to it, I tend to think of this blend as Haunted Bookshop's older, meaner brother. I can smoke HB all day, but OJK is a once in awhile thing.

I picked up an ounce of OJK because I'd heard a lot of people talk great about it. I'm glad I only ordered an ounce. To me it tasted like a bunch of burley with cayenne pepper sprinkled on it. lol Not for me. During your search for an Elizabethan replacement, try some Rattray's Hal o the Wynd if you get a chance. It's a great vaper with a little dark fired Kentucky.

Can you review Mississippi Mud? Would like to know your thoughts.

I've tried a few C&D blends, but only bulk. I was kind of surprised when you said it was a little moist because all the ones I tried were as dry as kindling. Maybe I should try a tin next...

Watching the video now, but I gotta ask the question, are you going to do more of the "OTC" reviews" I liked the idea of you reviewing things that are available pretty much everywhere, and are what most people cut their teeth on, also checking out blends that are suspect to being RYO in different packaging. (this one is annoyed that he has to either drive an hour out of his way, or order online to get anything besides OTC tobacco.

Great review, as always. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on C&D Small Batch Sansepolcro should you ever give it a try, it seems like a very interesting and different blend from C&D.

Check out Fribourg and Treyer BlackJack...I don't know if every tin until recently was super old, or if they changed it, but the first ones I got were incredible [mix of dark and light leaves, just incredible] and the more recent ones are all uniform in color and appear to be broken flakes. The more recent [or unaged??] ones have things in common with Elizabethan sans perique, but the previous [aged?] ones are in a league of their own. Kholhase *claims* they have changed nothing even though the difference between the new and old could not be more stark in every way...I went back and forth with the Danish Pipe Shop about it even providing photographic evidence of the delta and they consulted the blender... Who knows what the truth is? Regardless, give it a try, you might like it. I got about 20 tins of it to cellar....

This is a very good blend allright. Too bad it always gives me hiccups if I smoke after a large meal. It goes well with black coffee in the afternoon.

Not a fan of this one, i even went back after throwing a year worth age on it and it was still to "rough" for me, and this is coming from a burley lover!!! I guess ill give it another go next year lol.
