My experience is also that Dunhill blends can sometimes benefit from a bit of drying in the tin. My first bowls of 965 were so-so, but after a a dry this tobacco really came alive. Your worry free meat-and-potatoes analogy fits just right. Another excellent review! Keep up the good work!

I worked for Dunhill here in the UK for 25 years until I retired and stopped - yes stopped - smoking. Now 20 years later I have started to smoke my pipes again and without hesitation went straight for Dunhill My Mixture 965. It tastes as good as it always did and remains (again) my favourite and regular "go to" pipe tobacco. Macedonian tobacco is referred to the tobacco species grown in Northern Greece (Greek province of Macedonia) and of course spans to the southern Balkan peninsula. it is excellent when blended into English blends and interesting by its self, I like it in the 965, it has the proportions just right. also to note: other Greek indigenous species are Latakia (from Cyprus & Syria - once a part of ancient and medieval Greece) the other variety is ''Agrinion'' which is excellent with sweat Virginia from south west Greece - quality smokes!

I must say, I love Standard. It completely won me over and will be hard to beat. But 965 is off to a great start. I've replied to your video a little before. Been a pipe smoker over 40 years. Sorry to say stuck in aromatic - ville, most of those years. I have been reaping the pleasures of English blends about a year now. Pelican had been my favorite. Then it was discontinued. I have been looking for a mixture that has more Cyprian Latakia than Dunhill Standard or Durbar. I smoke both regularly and love them. Sometimes I just crave more Latakia. I do smoke Nightcap, but am looking for something a little lighter. So I just got my tin 965 and fired it up. Wow ! Can't believe how good it is ! I'm in trouble if Dunhill quits making Pipe Tobacco

I searched thru your videos, to see if you had reviewed this…I’ve tried a small percentage of the tobacco you’ve had chance to try. But by luck I bought this when I wasn’t even into English blends…I had been once when I was rookie, and at the time I was mostly into Virginia and flake… I was shocked how much I liked this blend…it was in some ways, just perfect. I wondered if it was just me? Great video. And this is a tobacco unlike anything else I’ve smoked. As you said…” if you don’t like this, you won’t like English blends.”

I purchased a tin of 965 about 2 years ago. I smoked a bowl and found it to be a little acrid so, I put it in a jar and kinda forgot about it. I knew it was there in my cellar but I was discovering so many other blends and figured a little time would do it well. I recently purchased a Dunhill pipe from 1950 and thought, what better to smoke in it than my aged 965. The answer was nothing and I just smoked the pipe and the 965 for the first time while watching your review. Even though I had seen it before. Good stuff. Okay, color me intrigued. I've been away from pipes for the past few years and have been getting back into them over the past few weeks. After a good dusting of the antique desk I use as a pipe smoking station, I found some 3-4 year old Balkan Sasieni and some surprisingly well-preserved Esoterica Pembroke and leftover Frog Morton tins that I'd forgotten about. Wow, was I pleased with when I broke the seal on the Sasieni and enjoyed a few fills of it and the others in my Mario Grandi poker and some restored used pipes I'd gotten from eBay sellers! These were immediate reminders of why I love the English/Balkan blends, and I'm building up a selection as I can. Tomorrow I'll have some bulk C&D Star of the East and Dunhill Nightcap arriving from 4noggins (along with a small amount of Lane aromatics...like you, I've never found one I love but hope springs eternal, right?) and after seeing this I'll have to include some 965 on my next order. I'm going through your piping adventures at my leisure for ideas to expand my horizons and appreciate the thought and time you put into your reviews. Thank you!

Great reviews of the Dunhill range. I'm a big fan of 965, Durbar and Nightcap. 965 is my go to smoke and I'm currently working thru a 5lb bag of it, now in many mason jars. One of the things I really like about 965 is that I get a good vitamin N hit from the first few puffs every time. (I'm not a former cigarette smoker so that could have something to do with it.) I don't get the same result from Durbar or Elizabethan and it's different to the buzz that Nightcap gives Anyway, I wanted to share my experience of 965 with the viewers. It is, as you say, a full flavoured smoke. It has soul. Good work Bradley.

I smoke this all the time and love it. I've only just now gotten to watch your review as I've known and loved it so much I didn't feel like being told how good it is. Agree completely with the "definition of an English blend" and I hope it will never go out of production. On the side note I find it on the medium/strong side of nicotine content whereas Nightcap is a medium to me but I guess it's an individual taste. Thanks for the review.

Great review and I love 965. I'm just getting into English blends coming from mostly VaPer's. You made an interesting comment regarding not piping for a few days because of a cold. And that the first bowl after a spell is very satisfying. I find that to be true as well. In my case, it's not tongue bite. It's like tongue numb and taste suppression. It gets to where I don't enjoy smoking at all. I need to wait a day or so between smoking. Is this something you experience? What can be done to minimize this effect? Thanks....happy piping!

Bought a pound bag when it was on sale. Came in perfect,and jarred it immediately. Usually have EMP in the AM,965 in the afternoon and Night Cap after dinner. The Dunhill blends are easy to lite,smoke.and the aroma and flavor are excellent. Only other blend I cellar from them is Elizabethan.

I tried pipe-smoking in the past (back in college), but didn't care for it beyond the novelty...turns out, it was only because I was smoking bad pouch aromatics. My cigar spending was getting a little out of hand lately, so I picked up a corncob and decided to try out pipe-smoking again, and bought a tin of Nightcap on a whim...turns out, I LOVE pipe-smoking, as long as it's a non-aromatic. I just picked up an OZ of My Mixture at my local tobacconist, and I love it even more than the Nightcap. I do want to explore the world of tasting and evaluating pipe tobaccos a bit more, but I'd like to be able to better parse out the components in the mixtures. I thought about buying separate "pure" tobaccos, like a perique, a latakia, some Virginias, etc. Does that sound like a reasonable idea, even though I've read that pure periques and latakias are not too palatable on their own?

Now you need to try Comoy's of London's Cask No 11, if you haven't yet. It plays sort of the same game but with a little less pepper and tad more "leather." Since you enjoy MM965 and Elizabethan Mixture I'd bet Comoy's Cask 11 would rank highly with you. BTW, luh-HUUUV your channel, bro. Happily 'scribed.

i gave in and bought my second Savenelli! I compromised though, instead of getting the more expensive pipe, I bought this beautiful Brown rusticated straight stemmed billiard called "Bianca" it's gorgeous.

965 is nice, I have a hard time not reaching for my Prince Albert blend.

Great channel. I'm more of a cigar smoker but pipes are starting to appeal to me more and more. I bought a pack of 965 to try, but ended up with an unpleasant sensation I believe to be the dreaded tongue bite . . . I got really bummed out because I loved the smell and taste. Maybe I'm smoking or packing it wrong, but I've gotten this sour sting on my tongue the 3 times I've tried smoking it. I want to try another blend to see if it gets better but Dunhill is 25 bucks a pop here in Sweden... Btw, 965 was the favorite tobacco of the author William Faulkner.

I had Durbar and thought it was OK but needed more latakia for my liking. This sounds more to my speed. Do you find much of a difference between tinned 965 compared to the bulk offering?

Great review my brother! I absolutely LOVE Dunhill My Mixture 965. It is my favorite "English style" blend. I saw this blend enjoyed by several of my father's professors when I was a kid. I loved the way the tobacco smelled when they would smoke their pipes. I suppose that's the main reason why this is one of my two favorite blends. Next the Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian, I don't smoke any other Latakia blends. I WILL order 1-lb of this BEAUTIFUL blend from pipesandcigars.com

It arrived in the mail about an hour ago and on my first impression it definitely is a little moist. I've been letting it dry since I got it out, I'll leave it for a while and see how it is. How long did you let yours sit to dry?

I don't know why but I find all of the mixtures produced by the Scandinavian tobacco group very similar, industrial and cigarette like tasting. Except the Elizabeth mixture..

Great smoke, but definitely felt the nicotine hit...very well balanced and smooth taste...other than the nicotine hit, a very nice blend.

To my taste, Father Dempsey is very similar and available in bulk.

Using English Cavendish makes an English Mixture Scottish. It's obvious really.

I hate ciggarettie smelling and tasting tobaccos, I started out as an aromatic smoker because I always liked the smell of pipe tobacco, that cherry vanilla kinda smell. Well I ventured off into some burley and other blends from watching youtube vids of burley and english lovers saying how wonderful they were and exponding on the vast favors and lovliness of them, after buying several tins of this type of tobacco and trying them, I can say eeeeeek..... all I get is a "I licked 100 bar room ashtrays" taste and smells for day from smoking a bowl of this crap. Some of you might love this kind of tobacco, cant say I do, It would have been all the same if I would have bought a pack of camel cigs and stuffed a couple into my bowl. thats my I I wish I would have waisted money on 4 tins of nonaromatic stuff rant :-) I guess im just not real pipe smoker, Im more of a every afternoon delight butternut flavored kinda smoker.

I might be in the minority here but I can't stand this stuff. It tastes like someone heating up a piece of leather and putting it on your tongue. I love Standard Mixture and Nightcap though.
