What most everyone seems to forget is that the reason that sailors carried and drank rum is because WATER was usually full of dangerous pathogens. Modern drinking water is HUNDREDS of years away. So when Jack asks "Why is the Rum gone" he is asking an important question regarding SURVIVAL.

Johnny Depp is definitely the star of the movie, and he was amazing, but it must be stated that Geoffrey Rush was brilliant as Barbossa. Kiera Knightly was absolutely beautiful and amazing. And I really like the character of Governor Swann. As you’ll see more in the sequels, he’s a great father who only wants his daughter to be happy. Overall, the characters are all interesting, well developed characters and the level of acting in the film is superb. And it has one of the best musical scores ever.

50 years after I first rode it at Disneyland, Pirates of the Caribbean is still one of my favorite rides. Nearly 20 years after it came out, Pirates of the Caribbean is still one of my favorite movies. The way the movie captured the feel of the ride, while still delivering an original plot and characters, blows me away. Thanks for sharing - I really enjoyed watching it with you. :)

Nice makeup and hair and costume. Depp was so charismatic and great in this fun movie. But the guy who did Barbosa was equal to the task and why this movie is such a classic, fun movie.

A lot of times we can criticize a movie based on ho complicated that the production crew wantedto make it. They kept this movie simple and it became legendary. In my book, it is a perfect movie.

Before jumping into this franchise, Depp has been in some great films: Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Donnie Brasco (with Al Pacino), Sleepy Hollow. Orlando Bloom immediately became famous after the first film "The Lord of the Rings" by Peter Jackson. And with him there is an excellent film "Kingdom of Heaven". I highly recommend these films to watch, even without reaction.

The method that Jack and Will used to sneak onto a ship, namely walking underwater carrying a boat upside-down to trap necessary air, would never work. It was proved on Mythbusters that the boat would always try to float to the top, meaning whoever was carrying it would be struggling just to hold onto it. The only way it could possibly work, in my estimation, would be if the water remained shallow enough until the ship is reached. And I doubt that was the case for Jack and Will.

Before Johnny Depp was cast as Jack Sparrow, Hugh Jackman, Matthew McConaughey, Cary Elwes, Bill Murray, Harrison Ford, Jim Carrey, Michael Keaton, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Robin Williams were considered. Ben Peyton, Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Tobey Maguire, Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, and Chris Masterson were considered for Will Turner. Jessica Alba, Amanda Bynes, and Jaimie Alexander were considered for Elizabeth Swann. Tom Wilkinson and Sylvester McCoy of Doctor Who were considered for Governor Swann. Steven Spielberg was almost picked to direct the film, but was too busy working on Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can, both released in 2002.

It's amazing how a ride at Disneyland could be the inspiration for a movie like this. One of the possible back stories is that Jack Sparrow became a pirate when he was a captain for the East Indies Training Company on a ship carrying slaves, but he released the slaves causing them to lose all the profits from selling them.

True, the compass doesn't point north, but it's not broken. It points to what whoever is holding it wants most. Which in Jack's case is helpful, because he wants the Black Pearl back.

Oh Folks, keep these Days deeply in your Heart and memorize this forever, the good old times as Disney creating Fantastic Epic Movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. This Times are long long gone, and they will never ever come back again. We all should know what Disney is today, right? I wouldn't spend one tear on them when they go completely bankrupt. I love, love the musical themes, they are amazingly fun and develop into the next movies. After the first three movies, the plotting goes weak, but these first movies are wonderful.
