Is it easy to replace the battery? Mine shuts off when I let go of the power button. It happened after a slight drop. Previously battery percentage would stay stuck on either 50% or 100%

The score is repairability not how fragile it is, so the back being glass shouldn't count toward it

Long and thin motherboard, fragile because if the phone bends just a little, it will bend the board too.

I haven't seen any evidence that this makes a phone more fragile. In the tests I've seen where people bent phones, sometimes breaking the frame, that didn't make the phone not work. Edit: the Pixel 3a is an example of a phone that bends a lot with no damage.

I sent in my Pixel 4 XL to change battery and when it came back the rear cameras didn't work, has anyone a good idea what could have happened? Maybe something got loose?

I wish I could see their rankings of just IP68 water resistant phones. Because I want that, and I'm okay with that making repairability harder, and what I really want is to see how those compare to each other.

Even the repairability is worse than before... on the Pixel 3 repairing the Display was much easier because that was the Part you have to remove at first. Now they're doing it as stupid as Samsung and almost all other manufacturers except Apple... And being able to repair the display is MUCH more important than the glass back.

You can easily replace the screen by a) using heat and proper tools like a suction cup / card b) remove the bottom 3 screws on the MoBo and gently pushing it inward to allow the ribbon cable to escape through the side of the frame. Maybe 10 minutes start to finish once you have done it once.

I still doesn't understand how sturburn are ifixt to give low scores of repairbillity because of waterproofing, how do you spect to reach that level of waterproofing with out sealing the phone, at least like in the iPhone 11 everything is modular and you don't even mention it

junior212136 you can’t take off the back becuase the glass is permantly glued, so you need a heat gun

Love the close ups and clarity but could you guys not cut out the screw being removed? Many come to see what screw goes where , you give a nice close up of the head but people need to see the shaft lenght and size or if there a standoff point ect

This score doesn't seem fair, it isn't a Lego construction, and it has lots of modular parts. And for the battery pull tabs, come-on, they could have been weak on that specific phone, and anyway if you have to change the battery who cares if you have to put some strength, as long as it isn't pierced or treated by a dumb person it isn't a bomb

3:00 the battery pull-tabs are crap and so it the adhesive holding the battery in place. Adhesive too secure, pull tabs too fragile

I take issue with the low score. You make good fixer kits but seriously a 4/10 because the phone is solidly built? Of course it needs a heat gun to take apart, it's glued shut so it doesn't come apart easily. iFixit score I guess is inversely proportional to build quality

Well, the problem with gluing is that one wrong application of pressure at a pint with the glue hardening back after taking th heat off and you risk cracking a glass back panel or in some phones the display. But unfortunately glueing has become necessary for waterproofing/resistance.

Paid £130 for Genuine screen still on the frame, £20 for a replacement back then £20 for a Replacement Battery. Then I opened it up and found numerous parts that are only secured with adhesive which you can’t easily buy. 1/10 Repairability compared to the original Pixel that took 5 minutes

As a Senior Cit who also enjoys being a retired computer engineer suffering from hearing loss due to noisy computing environments, I really do wish you'd use somewhat slower English-speaking-in-an-other-than-squeeky-supersonic-mode so that I'd be able to actually interpret the occasional word ... Motion Sense? Are you kdding me? Is this supposed to be something new? My fucking Samsung S3 in 2012 had this feature already.... this may be the most underwhelming phone i have ever seen. Even a S Model in iPhones brings more innovation than this thing
