Today Jerry & I are planting an Incrediball® hydrangea hedge behind the patio seating wall. This is our second try at this hydrangea hedge and this time we are doing things a bit differently to ensure that these gorgeous hydrangeas have a long life in the garden.

I propagated my hydrangea, which is a Incrediball I got about 30+ plants so I am starting my hydrangea Lane too ! It will not be the instant gratification like you got, but it will take a few years for them to get established and grow into beautiful bushes and that’s fine with me because it save me a ton of money.. lol 😂

How do you propagate them?
@dreamagood8321
@dreamagood8321 Жыл бұрын
@@ninaalexa6163 I do cuttings around late fall , early winter , or you can do it in early spring , like when you are cutting back for the winter or early spring . Just cut a piece of a branch , at a node , stick it into good potting soil & keep watered . Do a bunch so you can get a better chance . Keep the pot with the cuttings in a shady place . Then around early spring you will start to see growth coming on , let them stay in the pot for about another month to make sure they get some good roots . Or until they are about 6-8 inches tall .. remember to keep them watered & in the shade . I just use a old pot or 2 , and stick it close up to my back porch where it’s not getting any sun , then in the spring when it starts to warm up , I just keep watered , watch them every day for growth.. and wait until I think they have the roots , you can tug on the plant & if you get any resistance , you should have roots . Or you could dig one up & check . Then after that , I plant in the ground in the evening , give it Lots of water for the next week or so to make it takes . It’s according which kind of hydrangeas you grow , if it goes in the sun or shade . I have ones now that I started last year , they are 3-4 foot tall & already have blooms & doing great ! I know this seems like a lot , but it’s not .. very easy . A lot of plants /trees/ bushes you can propagate, it just takes a little time & patience. I hope this helps you & good luck ! 🌸🌸🌸

I’m so glad that I was introduced to you at the Grand Garden Show on Mackinac Island last year. I’ve been following you ever since. Your videos and info are all so helpful as I’m a Texas Zone 8a gardener. I’m planting a brand new garden starting today and I’m including some hydrangeas. My soil is HEAVY clay so you’ve just given me the exact recipe I need to make them happy. Now I’m ready to get out there and start planting 🦋

Oh no 😂. My nightmare hedge lives again! After seven years of trying in zone 4 last year I finally tossed in the towel. I attempted to have 9 in a row and while some sat for years looking miserable, others couldn’t make it through the winter. Every year I’d have to replace one or two or three! To add insult to injury, I removed the Annabelle’s the were in that spot because apparently Incrediball was an upgrade… and only because they got a little droopy due to the weight of allllll of the flowers 🤦‍♀️. Back to Annabelle this spring. I have 9 sitting here waiting to get planted.

So many lessons and information in this video. I'm glad you're trying the Incrediballs again but with a different approach. I learned something new today regarding the raised bed mix! Thank you for that! These are going to be beautiful there. I like the idea of being able to cut some of the flowers throughout the season and hopefully producing new flush of blooms.

Your timing is impeccable! We planted 5 ‘Incrediball’s’ (this would be their 3rd season in the ground.) Of the five, two are crisping up and yellowing on the new growth. They were lovely until about a week ago. So, today I will now take the mulch back and amend the soil with compost & ground pine bark. 🤞🏻 this works! This gives me hope 🙏🏻

I just planted a hedge of incrediballs along our driveway last fall. I have a live light hedge along our northern neighbors tree line. The incrediballs will be backing lavender, roses, clematis and dahlias. There’s a simple coated wire fence to keep our little dogs in that the roses and clematis will climb. We had a new leach field put in last fall so I had to replant everything. It’s all looking so great now! The first show has been 2500 bulbs from colorblends. The daffs are starting to fizzle out but tulips are still going strong. Can’t wait to see the incrediballs bloom!

Love the incrediballs! Wish we could put in full sun here in NE KS, zone 6 but they fry to burnt cauliflower heads here in the hot sun even with consistent irrigation watering. Our local nursery has a hedge of them in a part sun location and they’re absolutely gorgeous. We can grow limelight’s in full sun with no problemos though. Hope this new planting goes well, it will be beautiful.

My incrediball died back on me this spring too. It had been in ground for 2 full summers and flourished each year. It started out beautifully and then we got a huge temperature shift right as I fertilized and then they just slowly died back. I mean we went from 55 to 80 degrees in a 24 hour period and it stayed hot for almost a week. I’m on the prairies of Canada so that’s highly abnormal for us in April/May. Choosing to fertilize when I did was probably to stressful and on it and slowly died over the summer. I replaced it as well. I need those big beautiful blooms.

Jenny, I’m curious as to why you planted the hydrangeas above the drip line…or did you? Since the hydrangeas are in full sun, I would have thought you’d run the drip line above the plants so they’d get watered, but not saturated because of the angle of the slope. Could you share how you addressed the drip? Thanks so much. 💚
