I should say, "possibly Plum." Not real sure, we'll wait for Rick to confirm. Beautiful, whatever it is! Finished in shellac.

Well Phil, if it's not plumb it the nurseries fault. My neighbor was frustrated because his plumb tree never gave him any fruit. He planted it years before I moved there. Well one day he cut it down and gave me a few pieces. I put it in my garage and moved it 3 times. Finally after over 30 years I came across it. I obviously gave it to the right person. Otherwise it might still be in my blank pile. I love what you did with it.

The bark looks like plumb. I would go by that more than the color of the inside.

Valerie said maybe it's flowering plum, not orchard plum. I never thought of that! Turned out good, anyway, Rick! 😊

Valerie is probably correct. I love that we have an answer. A pretty good answer at that.

I like that answer and it solves a mystery of my own. Since moving to Washington I’ve seen lots of very obvious plum trees here. The purple leaves are even the right shape. They flower but I’ve never seen even one plum produced. Sounds like Valerie is correct. Flowering Plum instead of orchard plum. Guess I’ll quit waiting for plums on these trees.

Thank You Phil, Thank You Rick Chapman...So very sorry about that mis-identification Phil. That is not at all Plum and so obvious Oak ( I wonder, did I have a senior moment? ).. That knot sure looks like some kind of a Lizard eye looking at ya, (another senior moment? omg )... Beautiful turning today Phil (Rick, YOUR "Plum" worked out far better than MY "Plum" HA) I'm Plum confused Next time Phil, TM

@@rickchapman3051 HA, Rick I can totally relate, entirely!!! I have lived my working life, over 50+ years, in a serious hands on machine shop, tooling, with very high tolerances BUT when it comes time to repair or install new plumbing I have yet to complete a project without several trips to the hardware store, omg!! I am glad I am not alone and always so glad when it's over so I can get back to my shop, my comfort zone.. TM

Your first "plum" piece looks similar to some Cork Oak that I got recently. The bark is really thick and has a cork consistency. Just a suggestion. I keep some wet wipes or Clorox wipes in my shop and they work surprisingly well if you spill some CA glue if you use it right away. Also works for most solvents you spill or get on your hands.

A couple years ago, I cut myself with a swedish carving knife, I went to get some stiches, and the doctor said that siper glue would be better. Well, it healed up good. I dont go in for stiches anymore. If I make it through a week without glueing my fingers I call it a good week.

Another great looking piece Phil...I would say very very nice. When you showed the nub you liked it looked like a bird with a wide beak laying on its back. Your first wipe of the sealer on the inside just lit up the chatoyacne. Wow that was cool! I hate getting that CA on my fingers..hope you got it all off. Another winner! Gary

SRV had to super glue the ends of his fingers. Those 13 gauge guitar strings are murder. I have some thin super glue, used it for wood an a huge gaush in my hand. I usually do it without trying lol. Loved the end results.

HI Phil, thanks for the information about starting tonight and going to tomorrow, without throwing in distracting words like today, and presently. I think I'm currently aware of the time I think. I'll try not to drift away to another dimension. So, plum or not, that bowl is gorgeous. Well heck, I would just call it "plum pretty." That way plum is in the title without committing any reference to the material. Win win! You are a master my friend, thank you so much for posting, get unstuck, and take care. Rick (try brake cleaner next time, WD40 works too)

I hope you dont get offended but I just had to laugh at your mishap with the CA. You took a bad experience and handled it like a MAN and the TRU PROFESSIONAL and you came shining thru. I am still laughing. Did I say iam still laughing. I am not laughing AT YOU but WITH you. I know exactly how you feel when thing blow up in your face. Getting back to business, the bowl turned out like a true Phil Anderson original. I am glad to see you got to keep that wart, it really made the bowl have some character. KEEP ON TURNING
