Very impressive CB. I’m seriously considering having it installed on my well pump in the crawl space. My home ownership fears are fire and water damage from blown out pipe.

hehe, Chuck senior meets black poly pipe. tons of that here, various sizes, as there's lots of well systems and other. I could see the size of it upfront and as you grabbed that piece to install, I said UH-OH lol

Nice job Chuck, always use an ample amount of Teflon tape or spool wicking on those male threaded fittings. You can swab some pipe joint dope over the Teflon but not needed.

Flo by Moen is nice. It is simple and easy to use. An automatic shutoff system by Leak Defense is much more customizable and can be used on larger mains, up to 3 inch.

Gotta sand and ream. If for no other reason do it to cover your tail in the event of a joint failure or blowout. If something were to happen causing property damage to a client's house you can bet your ass the insurance company will deny coverage if they figure out the joints weren't prepped per manufacturer's instructions. I'm pretty sure Milwaukee and Ridgid both tell you to do it. Come to think of it our Ridgid RP-210 press tools all came with a piece of brown scotchbrite pad in the kit.

serious question, does the milwaukee pipe cutter eliminate the need to deburr the copper? i never seem to notice it being done, at least on the inside

Definitely clean/sand the ends of the copper pipe and also look for deep gouges/deep scratches on the ends of the copper pipe because deep gouges/deep scratches on the ends of the copper pipe will prevent the o-rings in the press fittings from sealing around the copper pipe ends properly.

Sure is all the dust and stuff that is on the pipes needs to be cleaned off. Ya know what ya doing even I read where other plumbers said the same thing about sanding. Gas pipes are different than water. Water is where ya cook, clean, and drink.

I only clean pipe to be pressed if it’s old or has something specific that needs it. If it’s brand new pipe with no oxidation I don’t clean it. Of course that makes no sense because oxidation only really matters when soldering. Though I notice you don’t ream the pipe. For years we never did this and never had issues but it’s something I do now though I’m sure I miss a certain percentage per job. Is that a dresser coupling? Damn you Home Depot. The only way I’d use a dresser coupling is if I was repairing steel pipe and had one of those super beefy ones with 1/2” through bolts the city used to use for repairs.
@ChuckBarron
@ChuckBarron 4 жыл бұрын
ya i never reamed in 35 years. No one who i worked for did either. maybe because our pressure here is great. Not sure but the dressler was by ford company. Local water companies use them all the time. It was painted white...Thanks painter....lol

Reaming has nothing to do with pressure. When you don't ream your tubing, the edge that the cutting wheel leaves creates turbulence in the tubing which causes the tubing to wear. That's why most of your pinhole leaks are right at a fitting.

I finished chinesium auto-drain on air compressor the other day. using junk plastic tubing (poly it claims) it melted down and blew out as I was washing hands...kapppPSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. then I dug around the house/garage and used 1/4" copper tubing as my "mind" said to in the start....

Hey Chuck, I mainly do drains in southern ca. Got a question man. What would you charge a customer to expose a 1/2” copper main (1 foot deep) and solder in a ball valve. And also expose a 3/4” pvc main (also a foot deep) and replace the leaking pvc ball valve? Thanks for any input! And keep the videos coming brotha! 🤘🏼

@@ChuckBarron I'm not sure why but I've seen a several of those PVC fip's split when a metal mip was threaded into them. I actually witnessed a very expensive hard wood floor job ruined by water from one of those fip's splitting. Why do you suppose a metal mip causes them to split that way?? I've never heard a good answer to that question. I could see on a hot water line. But cold? Thoughts?
