How does Pokémon Horizons stack up to Pokémon Journeys so far?

I like that they're already showing more character depth and range than they had in much of the previous series (e.g., Explorers Agent Conia expressing guilt/hesitation at her deeds, and a caring side toward Pokemon, even though she's with an evil organization). I agree that a linear progression is nice when I want to sit down and watch a couple of episodes at a time that actually relate to one another. Journeys was the Stravinsky of anime. Lol.

So far Pokemon Horizons has grabbed my attention right from the get go. The plot and mystery is really keeping me hooked, I just hope the show sticks the landing. The one thing that made me really happy is that Pokemon finally gave us a proper villain/ antagonist that is pretty menacing. I love Team Rocket, but there are times where I found them way too annoying rather than threat. Cant wait to see whats in store for Liko and Roy.

I found it funny that Journeys aimed for a younger audience by telling episodic stories for the anime, but was also trying to get older fans to watch with nostalgia. Meanwhile Horizons is aiming for a slightly older audience by telling a continuous story, but are also trying to get new fans to the anime. Feels like they should have switched the target audience for both shows. Journeys should have aimed for the slightly older audience so that older fans can enjoy the anime. While Horizons should have aimed at the younger audience so that they can get new fans for the anime who don't feel attached to Ash. Also from the looks of it, Paldea will get more screen time in Horizons then Galar did in Journeys.

It's already a vast improvement for sure. It feels more focused, it's clear that with everything being set up, they have an actual vision for where they want to take the characters and narrative, and the enigmatic nature of the characters motives and relationships aboard the airship, as well as the villains, is intruiging in ways the anime hasn't been in a very long time, or perhaps ever even. I'm very, very pleased they finally had the balls to break free of Ash. I can't predict the future, nor do i know if the series will be consistently good, but at the moment, it's really cool and I can tell there's genuine interest from the staff involved.

Pokemon Horizons is already totally better than Pokemon Journeys. Journeys was mid for me, not super horrible but still nothing spectacular. Horizons however, started super strong, Liko is a way more interesting character than that version of Ash and someone I can relate to, being a introvert and I like the supporting characters as well. The last time I have been so enthusiastic into a new pokemon series was in 2016 in XY&Z, so I really hope Horizons continues to be great.

I’m excited to see where horizons goes, because it’s only four or five episodes in, and I already like it way more than journeys. I guess we’ll see where it goes from here, but I’m especially looking forward to character development in Liko

Just the fact that Horizons feels like "an anime" with a "to be continued" that actually comes across as a cliffhanger is refreshing. I didn't mind Journeys so much (except the last bit, but that was debatably due to the world closing) but outside of possibly XY, Horizons is, to me, the most enjoyable and interesting the anime has ever been.

As Lumiose Trainer Zac put it: "Pokemon Journeys was a journey that had no destination."

At first I wasn't very fond of this new protagonist's in Pokemon horizons, but now 5 episodes into the anime. I'm truly in love with this characters. I understand that this new protagonist's are characterised in such a way that they are very different from Ash and that's kind of a win for the start of this series. Really exited for the future of this series. BTW love your videos.

I genuinely hope Horizons does well. Not that Journeys was unwatchable (far from it), but it definitely was unorganized. I also didn't expect a comparison in this manner. You put in good insights that Journeys is an ending, while Horizons is a new beginning.

Didn't think about the Volt Tacklers vs the Explorers basically being a grown up version of Ash and co vs Team Rocket. Definitely can agree there. Helped by the biggest obstacle for the Explorers being a powerful Pikachu lol.

I'm still wondering whether or not Horizons is even part of the same canon as the Ash centric anime we know for a long time now or a completely seperate canon like the manga, Origins, and the games.

JN vs HZ looks like apple vs pear Main difference is JN has an episodic formula. Ash&Go go somewhere, CotD and PotD appear, a problem is solved and Ash&Go turn back. There are main stories too but they aren't dense. HZ has a dense story and there is no gap. Some of them can be bad but JN has interesting CotD and PotD with interesting stories that touch different kind of human-pokemon relationships. I really like them. I'm not sure can HZ keep density of its story. There will be who is that pokemon episodes. Quality of this episodes will be important for deciding success of HZ.

Members of the Project Mew arrives to Team Rocket's Doomsday Project. Ash, his old friends and Gary goes into the Team Rocket's doomsday project. Team Rocket Grunts surrounding Horace and Lyla. Ash and his Pikachu defeating the Team Rocket Grunts. Team Rocket Grunts surrounding and taking Danika and Quilon to the temporary command center. Ash and Pikachu goes to the Team Rocket's Doomsday Machine. Giovanni capturing Ash and his Pikachu. Team Rocket locked Pikachu in the cage. Ash and Serena with Pikachu's volt tackle attack defeating all of Team Rocket Grunts. Giovanni and Persian goes into the helicopter for try to escape. Jessie, James, Meowth and Wobbuffet quits and escapes too with rocket jets. Matori escapes from the Doomsday Project's destruction with a small elevator. All Pokémon trainers and Team Rocket Grunts escapes from the Doomsday Project. Gary, Misty, Brock, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Bonnie, Clemont, Lana, Kiawe, Lillie, Sophocles, Mallow, Goh, Chloe, Danika, Quilon, Horace and Lyla escapes from the Doomsday Project and gets into the Project Mew's ship. Ash and Serena defeated Team Rocket. Pokémon Trainers celebrates Team Rocket's defeat. 26 years in the future. Ash and all of his old friends growing up and having their own children. Why didn't the Japanese producers and writers try harder to bring all of Ash's old friends into the final episode? I always say because the final episode isn't complete without all of Ash's friends. The Japanese producers and writers don't want to continue with Ash getting together with all his friends to fight Team Rocket, they don't want to plan Ash and Giovanni's final battle, they just keep ignoring all the plans.

Horizons definitely has a better structured/more streamlined start so far.

I still think the Explorers aren't evil per se. Since we know the Rising Volt Tacklers are Bodyguards for Liko and they're planning to get paid once they reach Paldea, it means they're freelancer/mercenaries, as such, it is likely the Explorers are also classified as such but their sponsor is actually a villain.

Honestly I was cautiously optimistic, and so far the series has proven quite good. Although it has taken a little more time to set up the two protagonists, that isn't necessarily a bad thing as it has given Roy and Liko both time to breathe as characters. That said...considering they are basically heading to Paldea anyways, it kind of seems like Kanto as a starting location was merely to stall for time and distance before the real story began. Hopefully in Paldea, we get more Scarlet/Violet tie-ins both in the plot and also in terms of cameos/mystery gifts in the games. As an aside...a couple of semi-hot takes I have is that they should have delayed Scarlet/Violet to release at the same time as Horizons, and should really should be simulcasting the pokemon anime at this point. I get the latter is tricky since Netflix is *insistent* in only releasing anime in packets, but both cases would have both allowed for better marketing for the games and the anime AND would have likely given SV the development time it may have needed to be properly polished.

Honestly I can only compare the first 5 episodes in both series, since Pokémon Horizons is still young. So far I agree with your opinion 100%, but we will probably find out how will Pokémon Horizons turn out in the future.

I don’t think that being dead serious about your goals from the start is a good thing because it’s basically saying that would have been better to see ash training pikachu everyday or naruto being like Saske and training without carrying for anyone or anything

Horizons has an focus and goals that are being set up whereas Journeys was rushed I would say to really just hurry up and an get the next episode I'm glad to see Horizons is taking the time to establish who the characters are, what they do, and not rushing a few episodes over with no pay off. I like Horizons storytelling so far.

I’d honestly argue that these 5 current episodes are better than almost every journeys episode (besides the really good ones like darkest day part 4, ash vs leon and the lillie episode)

Cynthia should’ve won in Journeys. I’m loving Horizons, it is such a good childish and semi-mature story writing where everyone is a fun quirky character with their own charms.

Honestly I've been enjoying Pokemon Horizons a lot. They've done a good job at establishing the settings, main characters/Pokemon and kind of the route the series may take in the future. I really like Liko as she is very relatable and I want to see more of Roy too. Also Frede had a badass Pikachu too....I like the way he calls his Pikachu "Cap" as a nickname...it's so cool. Also the Explorers are very good antagonists too. I can't wait to see where this series takes us. And having a group of adults supporting the kids is actually a nice breath of fresh air. I enjoyed Journeys but a lot of it frustrated me writing wise...especially when it came to Koharu/Chloe...I felt she could have became a Research Fellow at the beginning of the show when she showed more interest in Pokemon. I felt her story could have been a lot more interesting if they took that route...Also that Galar got done dirty too...I wish we could have seen Nessa in the anime. Hopefully Horizons will feature gen 9 characters and a lot of Paldea. That's my hope anyways.

Give it a year or so for a bigger analysis, but so far Horizons is on a 'steadier' streak from being able to start completely fresh. We don't know what will happen from there. (Journeys requires you; especially in its final year, to have prior knowledge on previous series to get the full effect. And with its high highs and low lows, it's understandable why some are still mixed about it as a series and as the overall ending to the Ash era of Anipoke.)

Thus far, Horizons is LEAGUES above Journeys. It's better in every way. I only have two concerns about Horizons. 1. I hope that they won't make Riko rely on her pendant constantly and make her use these incredibly powerful attacks constantly and destroy everyone in her path. For now she isn't good at battling, so even her pendant makes her barely able to protect herself and she needs others, so she isn't too OP. But I'm afraid that as she gets better and learns how to use the pendant, she might become too strong to face any challenge in her life, which would be a bad thing for the story. 2. I'm afraid that, as Riko explores and as her character evolves and becomes more confident, they decide to entirely drop the self conscious part of her and make her Ash 2. Considering the writing so far, I think that my worries are probably unfounded, but considering the past of the Pokemon anime and its bad writing, these worries just can't completely leave.

Basically Gary Stu poorly written protagonist (Ash in Journeys) vs interesting well written protagonist (Riko in Pokemon Horizons). Which one is better is obvious.

in my opinion pokemon horizons is far better than jurneys, horizons has new characters with their unique goals it took a big turn from the games until now (ep 5) the series reminds me of one piece pokemon journeys and gen 7 didnt even need to exist, pokemon xy could have been a perfect ending for ash the series was one of the best if not the best pokemon series but instead of ending the series there they chose to milk him more and destroy the characters designs

I haven’t enjoyed any Pokémon anime since x&y. For me, diamond and Pearl was peak. But damn was journeys bad. I stopped watching after 20-30 episodes, heard infernape came back, forced my self to watch episodes hoping it gets good until I reached the disappointment of infernape return. I might give horizons a try but I’m so upset that this was ash’s last time.

was just thinking about a rage crown that can make a pokemon turn into a shadow pokemon to hit harder turn their moves into shadow moves but also they might not listen like they need to be called it would also let you hit ghosts with normal and normal with ghost i think it would be a neat idea

i love your content before but now, i dont understand why you just kept uploading videos comparing horizons and journeys. just keep pushing the narrative that it's better show compared to journeys. it doesnt even hold a candle to the 1st season. also if comparing it to journeys is the only way to validate that this new show is a decent show then, avoid watching horizons.

Journeys has completely ruined Chloe's character and Ash and Goh's characters were already bad. Chloe was a person who's more grounded in reality than Ash, who was more relatable, and who didn't know what she wanted to do. She could have become something unique, not a trainer, not a coordinator, something completely different, something new. I was really excited to learn what she was gonna become. She was the only part of Journeys that had me invested... and she just became a trainer too.

It's sad that Ash and Goh got their goals established so late in the story. And poor Chloey didn't even get to her goal/ make up her mind on said goal until much later on. If they had established a goal sooner, it would have made the story matter that much more to us, because we would have a reason to cheer for and support the main cast. And Chloey's indifference to Ash and Goh just slowed down the story for her. She had no personal stakes, so she had no reason to care. She was merely the professor's daughter and not much more beyond that. And giving Chloey the Eevee didn't help much either. They need to establish the goals earlier on, so that way the story does not meander and take turns that lead to nowhere. They should start where the action is. The rest of that fluff could have been left out, but no. We got what we got. Pokemon Horizons on the other hand looks very promising. Hopefully they write it better than Pokemon Journeys.

Would Roy or Liko turn the Cap and head up with Mewtwo for their little Pokemon buddies that's what really matters! Ash has done so much Legendary shit too much to even get into, Foverer the GOAT of the franchise.

Liko is a bit empty in terms of character right now, and Roy seems like a cheap version of Goh, if you look at him they do kinda look the same and it seems the Adventurers are like Team Rocket but more of a threat to the protaganists. And imo I don't think the plot of Horizon's is better than Journeys but I'm excited to see Liko and Roy's characters development and wait a few years until we can conclude if Journeys is still better than Horizons.
