Not that this will change how ridiculous a lot of sizes are, but sometimes it's important to recognize what measurement is probably being listed. For instance, winged Pokémon sometimes have a measurement that lists their wingspan, like how a bald eagle in real life often has a wingspan of about 6 feet (1.82 m), even though its body from head to toe is is about 3 feet (about 91 cm). Or for spherical Pokémon, it never really says if it's measuring the diameter or the circumference. I would assume it's the diameter, but still. And with Gastly, if the Pokédex is measuring its cloud as part of Gastly's body, then that would mean that its... head(?) isn't so monstrously huge. Still a lot of weird stuff in the Pokédex, though.

I've known my favorite's height and weight from the start. At 6'7" and about 250lbs, I still would not like to meet Mewtwo in a Dark alley.

You know how Seviper and Zangoose hate each other? Apparently Zangoose are rather half the height of Seviper. Seviper is 8'10.3" (2.7m) tall whereas Zangoose is 4'3.2" (1.3m) tall.

I think Pokédex Info is like Power Level for DBZ they make it purposely inconsistent to show that they’re still figuring it out.

I always figured the pokedex sizes and the anime were guidelines for either end of the spectrum

Joltik's size makes perfect sense if you look at it's inspiration, and in a world of creatures with supernatural and elemental powers, it or flabebe fighting giants seems perfectly feasible. You can easily imagine it crawling all over something and delivering electric shocks (I'm pretty sure it does that in the anime at some points). As for Glalie etc. I always imagines them that big because for once the anime was more or less spot on with that. As for the whole vailidity of pokedex sizes, you could invoke the old 'pokedexes are written by kids" theory to explain the many potential exagerrations and innacuracies found in pokedex descriptions due to GF's sloppy job at consistent world creation (mostly because they don't care haha). But barring that we do see variation within the pokémon world (remember the fishing size contests?) so maybe these sizes are only indicative of size at evolution (and this only really works for the ones that are too big in the anime) or mean size? (which works against charizard in the anime judging by our sample population). I'm going to say it's probably a bit of both, that game freak don't put much of a conceited effort into this, and that I wish they would overhall this much like they did with pokémon cries.

I can't ride a Charizard, but at least i can ride a Suicune (6 foot 7 inches)

One of my favorite pokemon is Absol, so I looked him up on the pokedex, and he is apparently 3'11'' in height, and 103.6 lbs. I measured it out to see what it would look like in real life, and I was only mildly shocked. It appeared somewhat smaller than what I expected, but accurate overall.

When I played Pokémon Platinum, it was Always funny to see a heavy pokémon launch you into the air on the pokédex screen that showed weight, naturally, that was one of the reasons that I didn't care that Giratina, even in it's Origin Forme did that, but... If that's in height, then it's twice as big as a Doberman and a lot bigger than a Great Dane Crobat is 5' 11" (1.80 m), and that's only a half inch smaller than me and about twice as big as an eagle. I would have been terrified if I saw it in real life Volcarona is 5' 3" (1.60), which is also terrifying even though it's meant to be a giant moth Drapion is 4' 3" (1.30 m), but just like Bulbapedia mentions, it seems to be twice as big in the anime

In the deluxe essential handbook of Pokemon it said that rufflet was, heh heh, "roughly" 23.08 feet high. And when it evolves into a Braviary it shrinks down to 4.02 feet.

In the Alola dex Gengar is 4’11 prior to mega evolving and 4’07 afterwards while being the same weight. But it displays the mega as being taller in the dex.

You know what I find most annoying with the sizes? THEY NEVER TRANSLATE THEM INTO METRIC IN THE ENGLISH GAMES RELEASED IN NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES D: The games are never translated into "minor" languages, like my swedish for example, so they never even bother to translate the sizes. Thats why I really wish the image-system used in the older games will return one day.

I think the height/weight in the Pokedex is for domestic pokemon bred and raised for the purpose of Pokemon batting, not wild pokemon. In the anime all the Charizard in the Charizard valley were wild Charizard, which is why they were all so much bigger and stronger than Ash's Charizard, who was always intended to go to a trainer

@3:30 I THINK the reason Dratini and Dragonaire are so "huge" compared to Dragonite is because they don't stand upright, so Dratini for example would be measured from the tip of its horn to the tip of its tail. Dragonite, because it stands on 2 legs, I imagine is measured in standard human terms, meaning from the ground to the top of its head, so the tail that added so much extra size to the others isn't included.

I like how Legends Arceus, as well as Scarlet, and Violet solve this issue by giving all pokemon a variation in size. Clarifying that the official size is just the average.
